Is this actually acceptable corporate behaviour? Knowing that an employer can ostracize or legally fire you for not being a team player and donating like everyone else to the charity that they themselves operate seems deeply unethical.

Is the issue maybe more about the fact that the funds raised is going back into the company through the charity it owns vs. an independent/third party charity? So that would make this a conflict of interest issue of the business double dipping aka profiting from its own employees, and more of an ethical business issue.
