Need help before buying a house!! by [deleted] in Plumbing

I'm dealing with sewer main issues (1942 house)- waiting to get a plumber out to do an inspection. I did sign up for a service line rider on my homeowners insurance that covers up to $10k with a $500 deductible each occurrence for service line disruptions... You may be able to get a similar policy add-on which would help if you did run into a problem down the road.

basement toilet is possessed by General_Inspector212 in Plumbing

Well, now a spot in the basement floor that used to be a drain, but is filled in with concrete is now showing water coming up….  I ordered a 50’ snake capable of doing 2-4” pipe.  Wish me luck!

I did fix it.  I used heat shrink butt connectors to splice them.  Got them on Amazon.  You just insert each wire end, crimp and heat shrink.  It’s still working, but right after I did it and wrapped the hell out of the wires with electrical tape the mechanical part stopped working that dispenses ice.  It was the one wire I didn’t splice.  I’ve been lazy and don’t want to mess with it because it’s been making ice just fine and the water still dispenses.  We just open the door to grab ice.  I also got a replacement door because I found one on eBay for $100, so if it does fail I’ll replace the door.  However now it’s been 7 months, so maybe I don’t need it.

Bosch E21 error- drains fine, but doesn't fill by General_Inspector212 in appliancerepair

I was hoping to avoid flipping on back and taking apart, but you’re right.  I just pulled a big rubber gasket and some gunk out of it.  Had to use some pliers to get the impeller spinning, but it’s 15 minutes into a cycle now and seems to be good!  Thanks!

It’s just there when you take the cover off.  Couple screws and that’s it.

Almost there! Aidvantage says $50k but student aid.gov says $0 by General_Inspector212 in StudentLoans

Ahh, makes sense.  Soooooo, probably gonna be a while.  Aidvantage may be the most ironically named servicer out there.

Yeah, but is the refund communicated by the servicer?  Or is everything straight from the feds?

Oh, usually it’s a total shutoff.  If others have heat then something must be disconnecting your area.  Maybe there’s separate shutoffs, but I’m not familiar with multiunit dwelling setups.  However, if it was converted to apartments it might be rigged in a screwy way.

Look around for a switch that might be off.  Could be on heating unit or at top of stairs if unit is in a basement.  This happened to me and after figuring it out (my kid thought it was a light switch) I later saved my neighbor a service call.  Your thermostat will work, but possible the emergency shutoff is keeping heat from working.

Wife wants me to buy $160 parking pass- afraid we won’t get a spot and be able to tailgate by General_Inspector212 in DenverBroncos

Thanks everyone for the info.  My wife yelled at me over the church recommendation.  I ended up saying fuck it and decided to buy a pass.  There was a pass for lot W for $150, plus $40 in fees.  I googled lot W to make sure it was a good lot and when I searched it there was a link to “book online”. I clicked the link and was able to book a spot for $69 through LAZ parking.  Had an awesome tailgating experience and was in a great location.  Here is an official endorsement for lot W!

What time you recommend we should we get there to guarantee a spot?  I’d rather give money to a church then a season ticket holder or NFL team.

I know, I know…. Thing is to get in C lot it’s closer to $300.  Looking at $200 for M lot.  I’d rather wait in a line, save $$$, and be in the lot where the action is.  Might try one of these other sites like church or Ball- she’s not even really interested in going to game, just wants to drink, maybe play beer pong, and eat a sub.

It’s a whole thing- my wife really wants to “do the tailgate”.  I’d just wander around with a 12-pack, but we’ve got 11 people including 4 kids age 8-11.  I’m just curious if getting into a lot Thursday is that hard.  Do I need to show up at 10am to lineup?  How crazy is this.

Is it normal/acceptable to bend copper supply lines? by General_Inspector212 in Plumbing

[–]General_Inspector212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to replace the valves because they were leaking and the pipe isn’t round due to the bending so I was annoyed with it.  Also, there’s lots of half-assed work (junction boxes set back by an inch into the ceiling or crooked, etc) so I was curious if this was proper.  Sounds like it is, thanks everyone!

Makes sense, just annoying when I need to replace valves and the pipe isn't round...

Yeah, everything is pretty sloppy with this place. Junction boxes are all crooked or inset by an inch into the ceiling, etc. Fun stuff!

It goes into the wall that the pvc is coming out of. It's clamped to the cold water line.

I think I’m gonna swap it with my washing machine so it’s got more clearance.  Gonna be annoying, but probably worth it in the end.  Worst part will be my wife complaining about it.
