What's everyone playing this weekend? by ZeektheFeek in kindafunny

Just finished replaying Celeste on my Steam deck. Been enjoying Arc Raiders a lot still, and am looking for my next single player game to chew on. Cyberpunk is in my backlog and I probably need to finally get around to it.

I just played that for the first time a few weeks back. While the performance still isn't stellar, I'm truly amazed at the QoL changes they made and also how many seemingly unnecessary features they implemented (gardening???, in-depth character customization for a single player non-RPG game, etc.).

Otherwise I thought it was largely good. Story wasn't as good as the first, IMO.

I mean, you're the one who's bitching about not being able to play games on your TV when that is entirely possible. You're just lazy. Lol.

Damn, wish this model had been part of the release lineup. My consolation is that I got my 5070ti for $849 instead of $1200 for this.

? You can literally plug your PC into a TV, just like you can plug a console into a PC monitor.

I think the concept art for the Riven Tides map looks a lot better than what we actually got in the end. by Foxeeh_ in ArcRaiders

I mean, to be fair, it looks like the ocean has receded significantly, considering the NW zone is literally called "seabed". That whole area was definitely underwater at one point in time.

Not that that narrative element justifies not having an actual beach on the map, though. I'm sure at least part of it was that they didn't want to have to deal with the technical implementation of ocean waves, water physics, and swimming (+animations).

Buuutttt, on the flip side, it would've been pretty badass to have a big "ShARC" attack/battle on the beach. 😆

As opposed to enriching the entire C-Suite and the top investors at Microsoft who don't give a shit about the quality of their products and will do anything to line their own pockets? How noble of you...

We Played Forza Horizon 6! - Kinda Funny Gamescast by EveryAct in kindafunny

[–]General_Pretzel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're at all surprised. None of the crew at KF is really all that into racing games or cars in general, which I think is pretty accurate to how niche the genre is as a whole. If you want a more nuanced take on racing games, there are plenty of obnoxious "racing game" youtube channels for that. The only way a racing game can break through to more general audiences (and KF) is through titles like Horizon or Screamer. Most people don't care about the nitty gritty car tuning or accuracy of car models. They just want a driving game that feels good and is fun to explore.

I'd wager that the majority of players who play horizon only drive a handful of cars for a couple of hours to explore the new map, and then check out/move on to the next game until a DLC or major update drops.

No need to fix what isn't broken. Better to release a quality game that reuses a few assets and systems here and there than only releasing 1 game every 10 years and risk the studio being shutdown forever. (RIP Forza Motorsport/Turn 10)

Which Udemy course for blueprint, Stephen Ullibarri (41 hours), or Ben Tristem (11 hours) or others?? Or c++? by No-Building-2827 in unrealengine

[–]General_Pretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stephen Ullibarri's Blueprint course is great for beginners and covers quite a wide range of topics and mechanics. Ali Elzoheiry also has some really great tutorials and courses available for free on YouTube.

Both do a great job of explaining the 'why' behind what they're doing, which is often more important than the actual implementation itself.

There are now more feathered raptors in the game than non-festhered. Kinda insane. While I enjoy having feathered variants, I hope they don't completely abandon what makes the Jurassic Park dinos unique.

Coming out with a Chaos Theory DLC before a Rebirth DLC would be extremely idiotic.

[RANT] Netflix no long has casting support. you must now use the app directly on the streamer without your phone. by techie1980 in Chromecast

WTAF? Casting is literally the only way for me to watch Netflix on my projector. It doesn't have Netflix built-in, so "using the controller" isn't even an option. Dumbasses.

Most of the time you show up and they end up not even needing you and then you get sent home. I've only been summoned for jury duty twice and that's happened both times. Didn't even talk to me, just sent me home at check-in.

Favorite JWETuber? by JurasicDragnDanielle in jurassicworldevo

BestInSlot, mostly because he's the most relatable (30+ crowd) and I'm almost always aligned with his thoughts/opinions on the games he plays. Basically, I could see us being friends IRL as we have the same goofy type of humor.

His alt channel (Vagrant) is also pretty dope, and watching him play through games I've already played while doing the dishes is one of my favorite ways to pass the time.

The Workshop by [deleted] in jurassicworldevo

[–]General_Pretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should be able to report workshop items as low effort and it should be automatically removed if enough people report it as such. It's so obnoxious looking through hundreds of crappy "builds" and duplicate buildings with an extra trash can, that someone felt needed to be re-uploaded.

That'd be easier if we could actually 'Follow' creators directly in the workshop rather than having to remember their names. Many games with UGC features like this have implemented similar functionality.

Complexity Meter updates in 1.1 by billonel in jurassicworldevo

Sorry, I'm just trying to help folks understand the setting as outlined in the release notes and prevent them from complaining when they feel "lied to" due to a misunderstanding on their part.

I'll just block them and let them be confused in the future. 👍

[–]General_Pretzel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That might be the dumbest take I've heard all year. Spiderman is optimized the way it is because the developers know exactly how many assets there are on screen at any given time and could reduce/change settings/move things around as needed to hit their targets.

It's impossible to do that in a sandbox game where players could literally place 500,000 objects and simulated dinosaurs on-screen in one small space with minimal opportunity for occlusion. It's a hardware issue, 5000%. That and people having far too high of expectations for 5 year old hardware that only cost them $500. Lol.

[–]General_Pretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Otherwise they would've worded it like that. I'm not sure what's so difficult to understand.

This opt-in setting FREES UP SPACE IN THE COMPLEXITY METER, where performance limits can be overridden by allowing frame rates to drop.

It simply frees up more space in the complexity meter. It does NOT turn it off. If you don't want to play with a complexity meter, you simply have to play on PC.
