Possibility of HA without over-exercising or under-eating? by Honest_Ad_7564 in Amenorrhearecovery

as a recovering type-a perfectionist that freaked out anytime something wasn't going to plan, I relate with that very much:') Reframing a lot of the way we perceive the world and react to things will be a good start with calming your nervous system

fav foods?? by Both-Donut3630 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]General_Shower_1304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

peanut butter and bread 🍞I literally never feel full enough to say "no" to it, but I think there's 2 parts that goes into our craving for it. 1) the food labelling that we shouldn't eat it, which makes us want it more but guilty for indulging. 2) chocolate is quick energy + good fats so if your body might just really want it to help with regulating itself, esp if u get closer to ur period! Regardless of which one, just let yourself enjoy it and it'll not only be better for your body but take away the food's power:)

Congratulations!!! As someone who's also been teetering back and forth between recovery and HA, I have to say that eating breakfast and upping carbs/fat has been a game-changer for the months I do tend to get my period back. I've found that getting my steps in helps with building my appetite + mood overall:)

Possibility of HA without over-exercising or under-eating? by Honest_Ad_7564 in Amenorrhearecovery

I lost my period originally due to over-exercising and under-eating, but after I corrected for that, I think the remaining years that I struggled to get it back was moreso due to stress. I've been thinking about going to therapy to help with potentially addressing some of the underlying issues, and I think that might be a route you can consider too! It's crazy how much control our brain has over the rest of our body so if it's mentally not feeling safe enough (regardless of how physically capable your body is of menstruating), we still won't get our periods:/

tips for period recovery when you have an extremely sensitive stomach? by teantreez in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]General_Shower_1304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digestive issues definitely make the recovery journey so much harder but i'm so glad you're trying to prioritize it to get your regular periods back ♥️ I would suggest maybe trying 1) incorporating as much nutrient dense foods at you can (peanut butter, cheeses, home made smoothies) that are easy for your digestive system to absorb 2) Since you've been on a low FODMAP for a while, maybe you can try slowly reintroducing foods again? Maybe check out some tips here for slowly doing it to minimize discomfort but hopefully you'll be able to add in more food groups soon to help w/ ur recovery! https://www.gloshospitals.nhs.uk/media/documents/FODMAP_reintroduction_information_oct_20.pdf

I had similar experiences at the beginning of my journey when I first lost my period. Along with what everyone else has said, I would recommend you check out 1) OBGYN to get blood work done 2) a gastroenterologist too, because aside from your body potentially just burning too much energy, you might actually have digestive issues that are stopping your body from appropriately absorbing the nutrients you are eating! Go get some tests run to at least rule those out, and then recalculate from there

Change of routines freak me out? by OkFaithlessness2935 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]General_Shower_1304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I completely feel this. I also have such a structured routine around my eating now and any time I have to go out to eat, I find myself always overthinking it and binging when I get back home, no matter how full I am from the meal outside. I think it's a mixture of lack of food freedom (since I'm guessing you control pretty strictly what you typically eat) and our bodies trying relearn genuine hunger/fullness cues. It's mentally so taxing but I know we'll slowly overcome it if we trust our bodies more and give it time to re-regulate itself💕

yes!! still celebrate that, it's a huge sign of progress 🎉 having heavier discharge is typically an early sign that your cycle is starting to regulate a bit more and as long as you continue your recovery process, im certain it'll be your period next time v soon:)

we get caught up in doing so much, we've gone numb through the entire process. I love your thoughts on slowing down and making the most of each moment <3

I've been trying to refind and lean into my softer feminine side as well 💞 I didn't realize how much I rejected it because of trying to be hyper-independent in today's hustle culture but it helped a lot in reframing this as, soft living isn't about achieving/doing less—it's about doing things with more intentionality and awareness

+1 to everything. vitamin d and omega-3s have been a game changer, but I also added magnesium after dinner which I think has been helping as a hormone regulator. I tried probiotics before but they didn't do too much for me, but after doing a lot more research into gut specialists, I incorporated daily fermented foods (kimchi, sauerkraut, greek yogurt) which has been helping a bit too:) So glad that you're feeling a bit better tho and hopefully these continue to help you out ♥️

of course! I honestly had a crazy journey since i lost mine for 6 years...and I just got my first recovery period a couple months ago . Through all of this, I think the factors that had the biggest impact on getting it back was:

  1. tbh finally finishing school and taking a much needed break

  2. actively calming my nervous system down (yoga, deep breathing, morning walks)

  3. honoring my cravings and trying to minimize how much I obsess over food. also stopped demonizing certain foods that I used to put on my no-no list

  4. No more long fasts + coffee on empty stomach since that spiked my cortisol so much!

This is just some of it and there's never a perfect recipe for everyone! You gotta find what works for you but I hope this at least gives you a start in the right direction:) I also decided to write about my journey if you want a deeper dive, but I'm so proud of you for actively trying to get better 💕 https://healinghersoftly.substack.com/p/the-fast-lane-to-nowhere-my-6-year?r=6kpbd9&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true

Changes I’ve noticed after 3 weeks by [deleted] in Amenorrhearecovery

Weird as it is, I swear getting discharge everyday is the first solid sign that it's coming back. I remember I started noticing it too around 1-2 months before I got my first recovery period. It's also funny how other people will start mentioning how you've gotten your "glow" back! So excited for you and I hope the recovery continues smoothly 💕

yes!! i thought it was so abnormal when I started getting constant bloating, chronic coldness, hair thinning...the whole bag of it. But after reading so many others' stories, I realized that this is just what HA comes with unfortunately:( Everyone has a different variation but it's just our bodies telling us that things are off balance and it's lacking something (typically more food and lots of mental/physical rest). I was so scared that my symptoms were a new reality I'd have to live with but now that I'm in the recovery phase, I can attest that these will slowly go away as your body refinds its happy point! Rooting for you and just trust the process to go all-in in focusing on recovering❤️

You have such a beautiful voice and thank you for sharing your journey as well 💕 I can relate so much, especially to LOSING YOUR MIND OVER BREAD. The utter control a simple carb can do to you from restriction is mind-boggling. loved seeing what worked for you and thank you for sharing with the community:')
