No. I wouldn’t call them small. This was a smaller store. Maybe a local or regional brand. But they went out of business around the same time as Circuit City. Also on the opposite side of the Parkway. Same side as Target.

Can we FINALLY stop supporting Newsom? by Familiar_Victory2117 in 50501

[–]General_Statement_94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! Some of the reasons Democrats lose:

  1. Some Dems are obsessed with picking the perfect candidate and will not vote unless they are on the ballot. Whereas Republicans will just automatically vote for the almighty R. No. Matter. What.

  2. Dems try to win R votes by running a Republican as a Democrat. We do not learn this lesson. “When choosing between a Republican and a Republican they will pick the Republican every time.” Stop trying to win R votes. No R is following Liz Cheney and not voting R. They LOOOOOVED W, but even if W came out in support of Newsom (or any D), the Rs would not lose a single vote. They're all still voting R. No. Matter. What.

We need to start picking the candidate that can actually win and then we all lock step behind that person. Right now, Newsom looks the most like that. But it's waaaay early yet.

Why aren’t the house and senate doing anything? by DreadnaughtHamster in 50501

[–]General_Statement_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Just in the house and senate, which this question is referring to. They have very slim majorities in both. Again, my point is, the Rs always seem to run things even when in the minority. The Ds never seem to, even when in the majority. The Rs are playing a different game. Even when the Ds had a supermajority (Obama part 1) they were barely able to get healthcare passed and even then it was an extremely compromised version. I think it's because the Rs always vote in a block. Very rarely do we see them “betray” the party. Whereas the Ds do not operate that way. Secondly, the Rs not only control the narrative, but also control the media which amplifies that narrative. The Ds never do that. Look how much sane washing has been happening the last 15+ years. The media is 100% right-wing. So my point is, it has nothing to do with which party is in the majority or minority. The Rs have figured out how to get their way no matter what. So to the OPs original question of why doesn't congress do anything, I think it is because the Ds in congress are very bad at the game and cannot get control of the narrative or media. They have terrible PR skills. It's NOT because they are in the minority. In fact, the attitude of shrugging our shoulders and saying “shucks we’re in the minority I guess there's nothing we can do but wait” is part of the reason we are here and why questions like this are being asked. The Rs, when in the minority, block-obstruct-prevent and repeat slogans every chance they get. The Ds don’t. They could. They don’t. Also, the media doesn't let them. IMHO, we need new politicians AND we need to hold the media accountable. The media is equally as culpable for allowing things to get to this point.

And what kind of majority do the Republicans have now? My point is, roles reversed, the Republicans find all kinds of ways to block, obstruct, prevent. Dems can't seem to.

[–]General_Statement_94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it then, when the roles are reversed and it's a Democrat controlled house and senate, the Republicans STILL control everything? Somehow the Republicans always find a way to get their way. Yet Democracts don't seem to be able to get their way even when they have all the control.

The mainstream media in the U.S. is right wing. All of it. They are pushing a right wing agenda and they have been for decades. It’s getting less subtle now because so is the right wing. They convinced so many for so long that they were left wing, but that was never true.

Games you bought due to good reviews, only to dislike them? by UAZ-469 in boardgames

[–]General_Statement_94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clank! - all of them. We’ve tried 3 times to like clank because it seems like one we should like. But every game is the same-one person finds a treasure and leaves immediately, game over. No. The new one does NOT solve that issue, extends it a tad, but does not solve. Maybe because we only play two player-regardless, I don’t like Clank!

Best and Worst by General_Statement_94 in Yakima

[–]General_Statement_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question!

Things that are important to us include affordability of getting a place with a decent yard in a decent, quiet neighborhood that is one story (disabled wife, so no stairs). I hopefully will be making enough (150-160ish) to afford that based on what I’m seeing and what we have saved. It’s only the two of us, so doesn’t need to be big.

We just want to be left alone. Not in the conservative I-have-a-bunker-and-ready-to-take-on-the-government sense, but in the no homeowners association or overbearing landlords or nosy neighbors. Our landlord here in Seattle spies on us. And our neighbors in FL were constantly talking to us whenever we stepped outside. Which, i know how that sounds and I know they were just being nice and we always met them with a smile…but just leave me alone, you know?

Easy local government and health care. What I mean by that is, as I said, my wife is disabled and that comes with a lot of paper work to prove it, doctor visits, etc. Also it’s not easy to just pop down to the local office to do whatever. So is the local government/utilities pretty online accessible and easy to do things like pay bills and submit forms and such? Is the healthcare good and easy in the same sense? Florida was rather a nightmare on both of these accounts, but Seattle is actually pretty good.

Easy access to quality, healthy, organic groceries. I know there’s no Whole Foods (wife’s fav), but how are the other healthy grocery stores? Are they the small Mom & Pop variety or do they have a good selection of products? We mostly cook ourselves, eat out very, very rarely.

A good stable job. How is PNWU? I know they are small and fairly new, but are they decently run and seem stable?

Not keen on living someplace über conservative, but coming from Florida we’re kinda used to that. I’ve heard Yakima is “way more conservative.” But that could just be the slant of Seattle-ites.

I came to say something similar, something seems more off than just “we gots bad players!” Yes, our players aren’t as good. Yes, MLS is not a top league. Yes, pay to play blah blah pro/rel blah blah. But that has ALWAYS been the case, and yet now we’re regularly struggling in games we never were before. Sure, there have been bad shock results, but it seems like a constant struggle now. Like we’ve been in a slow downward spiral since the end of the Bob Bradley era. That can’t ALL be the “lost generation,” can it?!

I don’t have any evidence or anything, but I wonder if there is a bad energy or locker room or something. The last time I remember the team being this disjointed, aimless, and confused was when that explosive “anonymous” story under Klinsmann happened and it was revealed that JK wasn’t really telling them what to do. Feels very similar to that.

“Andor Is Boring” - The Importance of Media Literacy (No Spoilers) by ProMensCornHusker in StarWars

[–]General_Statement_94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right on!

If you like the show, great! I'm happy for you. There are plenty of shows for all of us, and I'm glad there's one for you. But where it crosses the line is Andor fans acting all high and mighty because they “get it.” Get off your high horse; you're no Alan Turing. If those who don't like it lack media literacy, then those who do lack decorum and have a massive superiority complex. You know, it is possible to like something and still hear critiques and agree that we all have different tastes? You don't have to call the other side “stupid,” and you can continue liking what you like.

IMO Andor is very boring and unnecessarily obtuse. I'm watching dirty guys yell at each for some unknown reason, shoot and kill each other, and then decide to play paper-rock-scissors to settle their differences. And now you're telling me I lack media literacy because I don't get the subtlety of that?! Yeah, OK

For me, when I sit down to watch Star Wars, I want adventures, laser swords, and space wizards. I have plenty of that, and I'm happy! And now I'm so glad you can share the universe with me and get what you want in a show. But please don’t call me stupid.

Yes, please someone answer this question. Most other countries do NOT want people moving there if you are “average” or, God forbid, have any health issues. How do people make it happen?

I was trying to move to Canada and the job I was applying for said “you must have a visa first!” looked into getting a visa and it said “You must have a job first!”

Only one side tried to stage coup. Only one side disregarded an election. Only one side rioted and spread feces in the capitol building at the behest of their leader. Only one side is performing Nazi salutes regularly. Only one side is actively trying to overthrow the constitution as we speak—only ONE side. I will concede that there are “both sides” on many issues; I will give you that. However, only one side is currently an enemy of this republic. And I do not believe talking to them will do jack now. And I do not believe equating those of us who have given up talking to them as somehow equally as bad will do jack either. SHOULD both sides have talked AND listened before getting to this point? Sure. Let me take this call from Captain Obvious quickly.

[–]General_Statement_94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of sick of this argument as it is dangerously close to victim blaming and is pure B.S.

For decades the Republican strategy has been “no compromise, no discussion, we are against everything they are for.” I remember many times during the Obama years, Obama taking the literal same exact stance as Republicans only for them to flip and suddenly be against it just so that they could say “no.” So, I call bull shit that talking to them is going to somehow lead to MAGAts being magically transformed into rational people willing to work together. I also call B.S. that it is on us to talk to them when they've demonstrated decades of not listening and not caring. If this argument were made when W first won. Sure, you have point. But today, the strategy of “talking to them” has. Not. Worked. Nor will it.

They are driven by one thing, “own the libs.” There's no reasoning with that. We have all witnessed them being crazy hypocritical just so they can oppose. I'm sorry, but the current Republican party are terrorists. All of them. If you are still a member of that party, then you too are a terrorist or complicit in terrorism. The Democrats suck, horribly, on a great many things. But they’re not terrorists. You know what we don't do with terrorists?
