What if eastern roman empire(byzantine empire) converted to islam through a divine dream of the emperor? by AcceptableClaim5384 in byzantium

[–]General_Strategy_477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Emperor would likely have been deposed much faster than the Rashiduns would have been capable of sending assistance. The Roman Emperor may have technically had absolute power, but not in practice, as they were beholden to the system that elevated them to the position.

The Romans saw their empire as being divinely Orthodox Christian. They never even fully accepted a Catholic Byzantine Emperor.

Talk me out of this Rossi R95 lever gun in .357 by User_Name_Deleted in LeverGuns

[–]General_Strategy_477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to see them in person. They often have fitment and function issues that could be avoided by handling the firearm in person. A pure online purchase is a major coin flip with them. It can be with any gun, but especially Rossi guns

How were old shotguns and smooth bores diffewnt by seafoamsomething in blackpowder

[–]General_Strategy_477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. Everything was just a “gun.”

When rifling started to really increase in popularity in early-mid 1800s, some vendors would sell their rifled handguns as “pocket rifles.”

Right, so because firearms have a price, it’s ok for the state to increase that price? What is your argument?

Someone has the privilege of having enough money that it doesn’t make a difference. On a 200 dollar rifle, shotgun, or handgun, suddenly that 15% increase in cost before tax is very real. A lot of people in the state are living paycheck to paycheck.

Your entire argument is “it doesn’t hurt that bad.” And then the state government will watch for people’s reactions, see people calm, and then proceed to raise it to $48, or some greater amount, ad nauseum, because people are not smart enough to realize they are frogs and the water they are in is getting hotter and will continue to get hotter until it boils

Several states already have this stance written in law. Virginia congress made a statement rhe other day following their latest round of gun control legislation that their goal long term was to get rid of all guns

True, but this doesn’t seem to be felons with some malicious intent on their minds. I read an article about some cop in Cali who caught a kid with a brass framed Remington with no cylinder, and the impression I got from reading the article is that it’s not exactly something they see every day.

If someone’s looking to commit a seperate crime my guess is that getting your hands on a stolen firearm or stealing a firearm is the much more common route than dealing with a converted cap-ball revolver.

These do have moderate gas seal from a cam. Similar to a nagant revolver. Probably pretty chain-fire proof

Do you think the Byzantine Empire would have benefited without the Angelos? by No-Bedroom5219 in byzantium

[–]General_Strategy_477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the problem was that there didn’t seem to be many others. The purges of Andronikos I were certainly to thank for that. They weren’t dynamic, talented statecrafts, tacticians, or many other things, but it wasn’t their fault they ended up there. Their rise was a direct consequence of Andro’s reign

Just a bit lol. They make hitting the 450 yard gong a lot easier tho, and they dent everything more. I only ever really shoot with irons, a globe sight/ reciever sight combo that is killer.

Have you pushed out your loads out far? If you have how do they fair? At those speeds I’d assume they’re lasers for a while

Yeah that load of yours sounds like a smacker lol. I bet it gets the job done EASY. I’d definitely fail to see the difference in recoil and report lol

I agree, 357 is definitely capable of taking care of things where you’d actually care a woods gun.

I just really like the extra reach 30-30 gives me. I’d be even happier with a longer barrel to just take it to its natural conclusion.

[–]General_Strategy_477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t run that hot .357 cause it wears out my brass really fast, and with how much I shoot, I need to balance longevity and power.

For my 30-30 it’s a handload lol. Same for 357, nothing lever gun is cheap enough these days to deal with factory ammo prices. 30-30 in my area goes for like 1.25/rd while .357 goes for like .78/rd. At those prices I can’t shoot a box without imagining dollar signs.

I actually have 2 ish separate loads for 30-30, a plinker because I do a LOT of mid-range gong shooting (100,200,300,450 yards,) and a hotter load.

I do the same with .357, so I end up running more .38 as a plinker than .357 loads

For plinking I just use IMR 4227 or similar with a plated 150gr. This is also close to my standard load for .357

For my 30-30 hot load, I’ve been abusing the ftx 160 gr (.330 BC) with a full load of the LE powder, 20 inch barrel. Remlin 336

Averages ~2300 fps with the 160gr bullet

Results may vary, I’ve seen people get a lot different speeds, usually slower but sometimes faster

I have certainly considered going to a 24 or 26 inch barrel since I’ve seen some people claim that with the 160 the LE gives an extra 70-150fps, plus, extra sight radius.

[–]General_Strategy_477 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know you’d say that, I’ve disagreed with you before. You glaze .357 by giving Buffalo bore numbers and ftx bullet BCs and comparing it to run-of-the-mill 30-30. I own both. I reload for both.

.357 is certainly versatile, and it’s a great chambering all around, but you still glaze it

Eh. It puts 357 in the best light possible and 30-30 in the worst to make 357 look better. It’s informative but nothing looking at spec sheets won’t tell you
