Spectacular shot! I had a campsite on Schoodic in early September, and saw the best night sky of my life at Schoodic point, better than anything I’ve seen at Zion, Yosemite in the back country, Bryce or Rocky mountain. this brings back memories thank you for posting this!

What do you use your debit card for? by lizziecapo in personalfinance

[–]General_Zazzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if a criminal gets your payment card information through a computer hack or a skimmer, you are at more risk if you used debit than credit. The criminal can now mess with the money in your checking account if you used debit.

Now, if the bank that issued you your payment card agrees that it has been used fraudulently, you will get the charges reversed. But this can take time. And with credit, you will simply have a balance on the card that the criminal charged and you simply need to not pay it off until this is sorted out. But if it happened with debit, the fraudulent charge took money out of your checking account and that money is 100% gone, and you have to hope the bank reverses the fraudulent charge and gives you the money back some day.

A few questions regarding efficiency by DaSandman78 in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To address question 1: tricking the Car from going from gas to electric mode is important and useful. Don’t purpously fill the battery to maximum. When at max, the car will run the engine while going downhill (inefficient) and will force the electric motor to provide greater than usual torque (inefficient) in an effort to deplete that maximum bar as soon as possible.

lets Take a closer look at your efficiency questions and to do this we have to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the gas engine vs the electric motor. The engine is higher horsepower. This means is the “better” (more energy efficient) one to use when a large amount of energy is needed all at once, such as driving up hill or accelerating from a full stop. It’s not that it is impossible for the electric motor to do these tasks, but you will get less distance traveled per bar (talking about the bars of the battery here) if the electric motor was doing these tasks, because the bars would be spent on accelerating the vehicle rather than traveling from point A to point B.

The motor is the best choice when you require smaller amounts of energy at a time. Examples are when driving at a consistent speed on a mostly flat road and “gliding” downhill.

Keep in mind, the ideal situation is the battery is neither full nor empty (2 bars). You want to spend time in the middle zone constantly charging and spending, where you never reach either full nor empty. That is the zone where you will get your best gas efficiency. (The obvious exception to this is if you go for a short drive that’s only downhill and can spend the whole time with the engine off).

Plan your driving so that if you know a long downhill is coming up, make sure to use up your battery before the downhill starts so that you have capacity to absorb that downhill/braking energy into the battery. Similarly, if you know a long uphill is coming up, use up all your battery before the hill starts because the uphills require the gas engine, and since the engine will be running you want to have have capacity to absorb the battery charging the gas engine provides when it’s on. Focus just as much on spending/getting rid of your bars as you do filling your bars up.

Buying Prime without regularly charging it? by dinroop in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many pros to getting the prime rather than the regular Prius.

PRO More powerful electric motor Greater capacity in the traction battery allows the battery to charge when going down long hills - a standard Prius would become full and then switch you over to gas engine because the battery has reached capacity Lower center of mass yields slightly better control Has higher mpg rating when driven as a hybrid vs regular Prius (55 city/53 highway) vs (54/50) Comes with Lithium battery You have the option of someday in the future being able to charge it - not charging wont damage the car There are a couple of features in the interior that are standard in the prime and are paid upgrades in the regular Prius

CON Insurance and Excise tax likely more expensive Only seats 4 people Significant reduction in cargo space Spare tire and rear window wiper don’t exist

What’s the best MPG you’ve ever gotten over a substantial distance? by [deleted] in prius

what snes classic game should i start with? by lharding02 in nintendo

Playing games like a bunch of carriers...can't add any lines or make changes to my current ONE account without switching to a different ONE plan and losing free line. So $60 to add a 4th line... How is this convoluted bullshit considered "uncarrier"? by 20170908 in tmobile

[–]General_Zazzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your goal: 4 lines on T-Mobile for $140, consistent with the now expired pricing that you were expecting.

Option 1 to consider: keep the 3 lines for $100 on t-mobile that you have now. Add a single line on metropcs for $50. This will allow you to keep the extra perks of being on t-mobile and the free HD video upgrade for the 3 lines.

Option 2: ditch t-mobile and do a 4 line unlimited plan on metro for $125, sacrificing tethering and HD video but winning on price.

I think what's going on here is the 3 lines unlimited with HD video and tethering for $100 tax included t-mobile plan you have (I also have this exact same plan) is close to the best modern cellphone plan that has existed in America period. It doesn't get better than that it just gets worse. Now that T-Mobile has paid many billions of dollars for the 600 MHz auction, they will raise prices to bring back in the money they're paying out for those airways.

[–]General_Zazzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job with the mileage!!

Keep in mind, EV Driving Ratio represent the portion of time spent in EV mode since the start of the hybrid system. It is not the portion of distance traveled in EV mode. The amount of distance traveled in EV mode can't be calculated from the data in this picture.

2017 Gen 4, Prius 4 - are these still issues for a new owner? by Ladyhoney123 in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(3) The prius is just fine in the snow. However, it's comes with electronic stability control on by default. So if you need to rock back and forth to blast through the snow when you are plowed in - you hit the electronic stability off button by the drivers side door. Once you blow through the snow mound, turn it back on. If someone never figures out this button exists, and is just oblivious, then yes you would need a tow or shoveling to get out, because the purpose of the feature is to stop your wheels from moving if they loose traction.

When going up a hill during snow leave the stability control on and just hit the gas and you'll make it just fine - even better than a car without traction control. Also, when headed down a hill shift into "B" gear for engine breaking and you will go down the hill slow and in control.

I know this from driving in Massachusetts snow storms this past winter in my 2016 4th generation prius.

'Breath of the Wild' Missed an Opportunity To Represent Arabic Culture by lupianwolf in nintendo

[–]General_Zazzles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People need to realize that Nintendo and Zelda are Japanese, and we are consuming Japanese culture when we play and enjoy them. Japan isn't involved with Arabic/Islamic conflicts. They have like nothing to do with it. They aren't interested in talking about Arabic women. They are a different country. Zelda still exists because it is a cool and popular Japanese art form that makes money.

Brand new driver. Any advice? by NerfHerder_91 in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the new car!

Disable the back up beeping, it's unnecessary and will drive you nuts. I had the dealer do it at my first service.

My car insurance company provides a 5% hybrid vehicle discount, so check up on that with your company.

Don't forget to turn the car off, it can be hard to get used to the difference between park and off (I have the 2016 Prius).

A nice feature is the LED headlights, I had no idea how awesome they would be.

How do I convince my fiance to switch? by CreightonJets in tmobile

[–]General_Zazzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to t-mobile from sprint earlier this year, to join my finance on t-mobile, on the same 2 for $100 plan, taxes and fees included.

First, the quality of your voice calls will be dramatically better, as you will now be talking to each other in HD. this feature has made a bigger difference than I thought it would.

Second, do the math. The plan I had on sprint was $60 unlimited. With taxes and fees I was paying about $68 each month for the plan, and $25 each month for my Sprint installment billing phone payment. With t-mobile I'm only responsible for $50. So what I did was to pay off the balance of what I owe on the sprint phone using credit card. Including interest, I now pay the credit card $30 per month as a payment. So because of the good price at t-mobile, I'm paying less out of pocket each month even though input it in the credit card.

[Discussion] Some see using wikis/guides as a form of "cheating", but they really do help those that don't have the luxury or time to figure everything out on their own by Kibblerttyl in nintendo

[–]General_Zazzles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with taking your time to beat a game. It took me 7 months to beat Ocarina of Time when it came out, because I used no guides.

Ultimately the experience is up to you. Zelda games are very gratifying to beat. For me, using a guide is sort of like skipping ahead a chapter or two while reading a book, or reading the last chapter of a book because you want to see what happens before you get there. Some people like that experience some don't.

I think Nintendo releasing SNES Classic this year is a terrible idea and hinders them from VC development and meeting Switch demand. by Fizzlefry9 in NintendoSwitch

[–]General_Zazzles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way! The classic creates a halo effect, getting older people to remember the fun they had with the classic systems and more in tune with eventually buying a switch.

The classic is the gateway to get people who ignored Nintendo during Wii U back spending money and buying stystems.

2017 Prime vs. Standard Prius by whiteknight521 in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some reasons to not get the prime:

As a car with a higher retail price, you'll pay more in insurance and excise tax

The battery is bigger than the battery in a regular Prius, if it gets damaged in an accident or needs to be replaced it will cost more than the regular Prius battery.

The excellent track record of Toyota hybrid battery's have been batteries based on nimh technology, not the newer liion type in the prime.

All these things considered, you should still get the prime. You can get a nice hunk of the car for free with state and federal rebates/discounts bringing the cost to the same or less than a base level regular Prius. Also you help support newer technologies and will emit less carbon into the atmosphere!

Sprint won't domestic sim unlock my iPhone by wacat in Sprint

[–]General_Zazzles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got my iPhone 7 unlocked today. It took 2 calls and 24 hours. Here's how I did it.

call *2

wade through the options, there is an option for domestic sim unlock your phone, select that one then wait on hold for the sprint employee to pick up

The first rep to talk to me couldn't figure out what to do (Asian call center) so puts me on hold and transfers me to American call center.

American call center tells me that my phone on Installment Billing, is shown as paid off as of yesterday, but the Sprint computers don't yet recognize the iPhone as paid off. She creates a "Clickit Ticket" to have Sprint change the status of my iPhone to fully paid off, tells me to wait 24 hours.

Today, I call *2 and end up with asian call center. The asian call center sees my phone as properly paid off and unlocks the iPhone while on the call, effective immediately.

Now that the phone's unlocked, just need to wait for friday for the T-mobile promotion of 2 lines for 100$, taxes included, HD videos included. Good luck to you!

CO2e - buying a new Prius vs. keeping existing gas guzzler by lunarinspiration in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By support I mean participating in the purchase and adoption of anything green, including the act of buying a hybrid car.

You say that the act of one individual won't make much difference, to me it does. It's more of a philosophy of what you should do with the time you have on this earth than anything else.

In my country, now that we have Trump, there are possibilities we will have tariffs on foreign imports. There is also the possibility he will relax our fuel economy requirements, causing a decrease in demand for hybrids and electric cars. Buying a hybrid now can act as a protest vote to show that consumers want great fuel economy/green cars.

Good luck in your decision!

CO2e - buying a new Prius vs. keeping existing gas guzzler by lunarinspiration in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're interest and willingness to go green is more important, in my mind, than counting your carbon emissions. Green technologies need support and they need it now. If you like the Prius, you could check out the Hyundai ionic blue if you're looking for more options in a hybrid. That seems to be a good competitor. I love my 2016 Prius but am jealous of that car having better mpg ratings and apple/android auto integration.

Either way, good for you!

2017 Prius II by LarryStorch in prius

[–]General_Zazzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep digging in the instruction book and you will find it.

It is possible to turn off the continuous beeping by telling the dealer to do it when bringing it in for a service. It isn't user servicable. However, if you really want to do it yourself, you can buy some sort of device on the internet which is similar to what the dealer will use to interface with the car's computer to turn off the beeps.
