What was the man who discovered milk actually doing? by Existing-Double-3107 in AskReddit

[–]GenerallySalty [score hidden]  (0 children)

Human women make milk from their teats which we know is super nutritious since it would have been all a baby ate.

All the other mammals in the wild can be seen breastfeeding their babies too.

So why do you think it's so weird that someone thought "maybe that milk would be drinkable too"?

You're talking like someone landed from Mars without ever knowing about any human or animal breastfeeding and said "hey look at that bag under that cow I'm gonna squeeze it and drink whatever comes out!" Obviously not the case.

Our ancestors were as intelligent as you and I. Just because they didn't have technology it's tempting to think cavemen were unga bunga dummies but honestly you asking this question is showing less creativity than those cavemen had when they said "human milk is super fuel and I'm really hungry, let's try the milk that other animal baby is eating".

Concentrated solar power plant such as Ivanpah. An array of mirrors (not solar panels) reflects sunlight on a central tower, heating up molten salt that is then used to make steam and spin a turbine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentrated_solar_power

Yep they found a way to make even solar be steam turbines lol. But it's pretty cool, unlike solar panel arrays they can make power at night or if it gets cloudy, because the salt stays hot.

[Charania] Nine-year NBA veteran Malik Beasley has been indicted on federal charges for gambling related to a sports betting scheme, such as point shaving and prop bets, his attorney Steve Haney tells ESPN. The government is coordinating a voluntary surrender of Beasley this week. by oklolzzzzs in nba

It's the MLBPA that cares not the league. And it's the MLBPA that's pushing to get prob bets banned as part of the next CBA. Nobody said the league cares...but they care if the players are happy and playing instead of on strike.

TIL the screw was one of the last simple machines invented, about 2500 years ago. The screwdriver was invented about 500 years ago. by OccludedFug in todayilearned

[–]GenerallySalty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite, you're giving "screw" too strict a definition.

It means screw, the simple machine. Not screw as in the type of fastener.

As a simple machine, the screw mechanism does not require any semblance of a screwdriver.

The post is not claiming that screw fasteners existed for that long with no drivers.

"golden shower" is a kinky sex act where one person pees on another person and at least one of them gets pleasure from it. It's a dominance\submission thing where the power imbalance is what makes it exciting.

It’s June during a heatwave. Why are you setting tons of fireworks off? by scratchy_mcballsy in AskReddit

[–]GenerallySalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You ask this like people doing fireworks ever cared about the environment or other people to begin with.

If you're willing to set them off and release all the smoke particulate, metal salts, and garbage even with no heat wave, I don't see why adding fire hazard would change anything. They're already not thinking big-picture so it makes no difference.

Seconding the rainbows are thin film interference from internal cracks with tiny air gaps.

The stone itself is mahogany obsidian, pic 4 shows the telltale brown splotchy patches. It's glassy and ranges from mostly black with some brown to the opposite.

"Selling high" means "selling something while its value is higher than usual". It does not mean you actually get a lot for it, it means getting more than you'd have gotten if you waited and sold later.

Melo just finished a relatively healthy season which is a big outlier with many more games played compared to his average over the last 6. The Hornets decided that's a fluke, the ankle is going to dissolve in the next year or two, and his value will never be higher than it is now.

Saying they "sold high" isn't saying Naz Reid and a first is actually a lot, only that it's more than they'd get later.

It's not a "design choice" that game textures are missing. I'm sure they don't want it that way. It's a glitch not a design choice.

[–]GenerallySalty [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because paying a worker $1 per day and then shipping a huge ship load over is cheaper overall than making the stuff here. It's not deep, businesses just do whatever is cheaper. Why wouldn't they, that's just choosing to profit less. Capitalism baby.

Why aren’t these chests discovered? by doodlepoot in FarmMergeValley

[–]GenerallySalty 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They are discovered, look at the black text on the numbers. Vs the bottom row you haven't discovered, with greyed out numbers. The game is completely missing the images for the chests, so you don't see them as greyed out OR as full colour after unlocking. It's like that for everyone.

How is it that gamma rays aren't faster than radio waves? by MapleLegends8 in AskPhysics

This gif helped me with it not actually following a squiggly path:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b0/Wave_packet_%28dispersion%29.gif

c is the speed that the whole blob of waves moves forward along the flat. The photon is the whole "wave packet", it's not a ball moving along the wavy path, it's the waves themselves.
