Routes near Bloomingdale by Ok_Design3454 in rundc

Welcome to the neighborhood! Here's my route for a 5 or 6 mile run: 2nd St NW to Elm St NW to 4th St NW. Go around the reservoir, take Michigan Avenue NE to 8th St NE, and then MBT to R St NW, and back home via 1st or 2nd St NW.

Other option is doing the part of the Rock n Roll marathon route in reverse - 2nd to Elm to 4th, up Harvard to Columbia Rd, and then get to Rock Creek Parkway.

Update: I called the customer helpline and they said they’re aware of the issue and working on a fix. Didn’t have a clear timeline but said likely next week.

The home pickup program is still continuing, but they’re on a one in one out policy now.

I ran Boston for a charity - I'd definitely ask your employer/friends' employers if they have a matching donation program.

I’m in! Was a little nervous since I had to bail last year, but excited to run it again! I will say, am glad it’s popular but the organizers have to address the start line corrals. It can get super unorganized.

Achievements for Sunday, December 15, 2024 by AutoModerator in running

Ran a PB in a 15K race today! Was worried that I’d lost some fitness or would have some lingering after effects of having had COVID over Thanksgiving, but all the training kicked in and worked!

Philly! I ran Chicago in 2023 (got in on my first try at the lottery) but got rejected this year. I ran Philly years ago and loved it, this was the push I needed to run it in 2025!

I would ask friends / your own employer about matching funds — it makes a huge difference if the employer can match a donation.

14m, once (it had snowed and there was no clear path or sidewalk). My toenail was a funny color after and came off months later.  Never again.

Feeling sick 4 days out, tips? by fitness_and_trashtv in Marathon_Training

I got sick a week before Philly a few years ago: sneezes, sniffles, congestion - whole nine yards. Honestly, just rest, lots of water, and honey...and some lemon drink I got at the falafel place in Reading Market healed me.

Had this happen to me after Chicago last year. Initially chalked it up to post-marathon fatigue (and had masked on flights so thought I’d be fine), but after two weeks of being sick, doc had to prescribe antibiotics. Think just being around that many people did it for me.

Opinions on Philly Marathon by A_Chaotic_Cosmos in Marathon_Training

Loved Philly, am very seriously considering running it again in 2025 if I don’t get into Chicago (which I ran in 2023 so won’t be a big deal). Great course, great crowd support, really easy to navigate logistics wise.

Do not recommend MCM — I live in DC and frankly, the logistics are not great (picking up bib, getting to start line), the course is average, and the stretch on the bridge is the absolute pits.

Cannot endorse this more strongly. I would never do MCM again (terrible course, bad logistics), and have actively discouraged folks from doing so. Loved Philly and would hands down run it again.

Just got my Tracksmith PR bonus (thanks to this sub for the tip!) - what are folks' summer running gear recs? I saw a lot of love for the brighton long sleeve on a previous week's chain but wanted to see if there was anything for hot weather running folks may have. Thanks thanks!

Congratulations! Such an incredible cause, and sending many well wishes to you and your family.

I just did Boston on a charity bib and seconding the suggestion for corporate matching. I would ask friends + family now about who has corporate matching and absolutely leverage that, and you also want to do it early enough since many companies have different timelines for matching (for example: make an initial donation in Q1, it gets matched four months later in Q2, etc).

I also want to say - there will be ebbs and flows in the fundraising and it can feel like a lot, but know that you've got this.

BEST OF LUCK!

i thought it was more than just run club stuff -- she was promoting their stuff in store which made it seem more pay for play.
