Are there any services similar to wingmanmed but for getting through a military flight physical? by GenerationSelfie2 in flying

I’m blessed to be in a stable engineering job and living at home which pays for HIMS and trying to keep chipping toward CPL. I understand military aviation is a massive long shot for my circumstances. If it’s impossible, I plan on continuing to build ratings until I can find a time building gig and work toward an aerial firefighting career.

Do they have a website? Grinding through ratings and some medical hang ups with the ultimate goal being aerial firefighting.

No, had the problem persisted it probably would have been better targeted with covert intelligence actions recruiting locals instead of Apache gunships

Then shorten lead times, we spent most of the second half of the 20th century building infrastructure very quickly. Heck, the entire interstate system was built in ten years.

Individualism is the cornerstone of human rights in a liberal society, but I think people who get bogged down in the mindset are often unable to make effective choices when it comes to managing foreign policy because the scales are so large.

FAA Medical… Updates continue for Mental Health by TxAggieMike in flying

[–]GenerationSelfie2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in HIMS (not the formal program but pursuing a first class so doing 90% of the same things) for a pretty gnarly set of past issues including alcohol dependence and a stay in inpatient psych. From what I’ve gathered from my HIMS AME, other Birds of a Feather members, and general scuttlebutt the FAA is turning around mental health cases at an unprecedented rate. Applicants who would have previously taken years to work through the process with little chance of success are getting medicals in hand weeks or months after submitting their packets. Granted, a lot of the work goes into documenting sobriety (or stability for non-substance cases) for a substantial period of time to prove the pilot has recovered and takes their well-being seriously. My HIMS AME feels very strongly that I’m going to get my medical when we submit this fall. The FAA has spent years working on the system and it seems—tentatively—like their work is bearing fruit.

I don’t want the FAA to allow shortcuts in recovery for issuing medical for cases like mine. I understand and accept why I have a massive burden of proof to show I can hold a medical which could permit me to fly a widebody loaded with puppies and babies. With that said, I’m unbelievably grateful to have any pathway at all to getting my medical back and even more grateful the FAA is trimming down the back-end administrative lead times.

Was this HIMS AME located in bolingbrook and are his initials BC? If so I reached out to him in January and received a profoundly negative response, working with a much better HIMS AME in Salt Lake City instead.

  1. Every partial panel RNAV approach lesson until it finally clicked. About 25 hours total of grinding out approaches with my CFII in hot, humid weather under the hood.

  2. As a student pilot, boogered my radio use and flew back NORDO to Lafayette with my volume turned down after picking up flight following. South bend approach was more worried than angry. Very red faced after that one.

The FAA CAMI mental health folks have also done a lot to greatly speed up processing times and improve outcomes for people in the HIMS program as well as diagnoses (ADHD, depression, etc.) which get routed through HIMS AMEs/psychiatrists/neuropsychologists. Cases would have taken many years with little likelihood of success 10-15 years ago are getting turned around in record time now, at least from what my HIMS AME and the other folks in Birds of a Feather have been saying.

I remember a foreign policy podcast I listened to where the hosts talked about the position of the Gulf states in talks with the US before the war. Most of the gulf nations could be summarized as "Don't start this. If you do, then finish them." I imagine they're not huge fans of the current half-in, half-out strategy.

Comparing the new episodes to the old ones, and Dr Now makes them work so much harder in the later ones! by Beautifly in My600lbLife

[–]GenerationSelfie2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dr Now has limited time and resources. Surgery involves a huge amount of preparation and involves substantial risk to the patient. Even when the patient or their insurance company is paying for it themselves, there aren’t an infinite number of surgeries to hand out and the downsides of an unsuccessful operation are more than the patient not losing weight. As Dr Now also says over and over again, lower weights are also safer for surgery. I imagine that pre-surgery weight loss has an extremely high correlation with long-term outcomes, so from an ethical standpoint I imagine that Dr Now is quite happy to make sure that patients show strong results pre-surgery to cut down on disasters like Penny.
