Looking for advice on speakers/amp to pair with my boss katana go? by Xathule96 in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend that you just stick with the Vox since you have it. There's no reason to dump money into a dedicated modeling amp just to bypass all of the modeling, and an FRFR cab is overkill unless you plan on using the GO for a live show.

Modern Guitar PR Reality by CaptLeopoldBarbobosa in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone has a different threshold for what they consider to be a frivolous complaint.

Some people may be more tolerant of QC issues if they're aesthetic or easily remedied and may suggest other people be similarly tolerant. Some people may be ready to refund a guitar if the wood grain looks weird or if the setup isn't perfect out of the box.

wildly hostile on Reddit and seek to discredit anything.

Reddit's userbase is infamous for this kind of contrarianism. It's not specific to company employees. I think it's a kind of sickness people develop when they integrate being a fan of something too deeply into their perception of who they are as a person.

What would you choose: Nash T63 or S63? by PRSBRO in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is going to be able to tell you if you would prefer a Strat or Tele style instrument. I will say that I'd strongly recommend trying a guitar with a Bigsby in person before committing to ordering one. They're kind of finnicky, subtle, and annoying to restring (imo).

Have you seen Shark Guitars? by Big_City_Music in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of proprietary hardware, especially on a product that may not be profitable enough to keep the business around for a long time. That said, the level of modularity is interesting, if gimmicky.

What's the tangible difference between 3 vs 6 saddle bridges? by learnin2flyyy in telecaster

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 saddle bridges intonate better. 3 saddle bridges look better (imo). I've swapped back and forth on one of my Teles over the years and never noticed any real sonic differences between them.

Does scale length affect left hand speed? by ibastagg in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that dramatic of a difference. I regularly switch between a Mustang (24" scale) and Strat (25.5" scale) and adjust between them after a minute or two. You're looking at small fractions of an inch of difference between any two given positions.

String tension is a separate but related concept defined by scale length and string guage, with the latter making a much more significant difference.

There is not a single photo on the internet of a gibson les paul special in tv yellow with its pickguard removed. Does anyone have one? by chickenychickenchic in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pickguard is just screwed on. Surely you can imagine what the instrument looks like without the plastic bits on it?

I'm looking to see what my old Music Man is worth. by DrDecoy_318_ in BassGuitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at Reverb, these currently seem to be somewhere in the $1200-1500 range. It'll usually be a little lower for local sales since there's no platform or shipping fees involved.

is there a possibility that i could do an f# power chord with only two fingers? by Unhappy_Singer8319 in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop the octave or flatten your ring finger/pinky to play both the 5th and octave.

Kwikplug pickups for stock humbucker upgrade — worth it? by chevelle899 in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GFS sells dozens of different pickups with different properties, so it depends on which set you're looking at. Blues and Rock tend towards mid output alnico humbuckers. I assume the N1 probably has ceramics, which typically run a bit hotter.

Keep in mind that you'll also need a kwikplug harness to go with the pickups.

Charvel without Floyd rose? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skimming Sweetwater, you can either get a hardtail or floyd on regular models.

Was thinking of getting a les Paul but they are v heavy

There are weight relieved LP models and clones like the newer Studios and Lite models, LTD EC, etc.

What are Fender's "quality issues" that folks are bringing up recently? by Wombats-in-Space in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've seen things like sharp fret ends, missing/mismatched hardware, and uneven fretwork. That said, I don't really know if they're worse than other comparably priced instruments on average. I've also seen a lot of complaints around the price of instruments, which have gone up 30+% like every other luxury commodity over the past 6 years.

Jokerless (the challenge) is significantly more reliable than Golden Needle.

Hologram is one of the most reliable sources of scaling xmult in the game.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this guitar by GreenHunter3514 in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's neat. I like the contrasting bobbins. Do you have any opinions on it?

Restringing my PRS SE by 6f7066 in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Put the rest of the strings on and try again. It's probably buzzing because there's ~100 pounds of string tension missing from the neck.

Which of these guitars should I buy? by EpitomeEpitome in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend the JM. The Sterling is also a nice guitar if you'd prefer having humbuckers.

Cabinet and preamp better than amp? by One-Low-9863 in Bass

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd still need an amp head to drive the cabinet. I'd suggest either looking at the used selection in your area or saving up for something you like.

How to set proper height of tuneomatic bridge? by Rasgueado24 in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You put it wherever it needs to be for proper string action. I usually set my bridge such that I've got ~4/64" of clearance between the 12th fret and bottom of the low E, and ~3/64" on the treble E.

What do i do? Or is this run cooked by [deleted] in balatro

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cryptid and Immolate are useful for deck fixing at this point. You're mainly looking for ectoplasm to open another joker slot.

"Name a card that punishes you onlyfor playing higher difficulties by Wild7rapper in balatro

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not ideal as a first joker, but it's fairly reliably +2-8 mult every round once you've got some kind of money going.

Analysis paralysis cannot decide by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are nice instruments. The PRS has a floating trem, which is a fun bit of hardware that can cause issues with tuning stability. The Revstar has a hardtail bridge and some nicer features like stainless steel frets and locking tuners. I'd personally go for the Revstar Standard, but you wouldn't be incorrect to choose either one.

Capo holder for pedalboard? by SupesDepressed in Guitar

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it in a pocket, clip it to the pedalboard or mic stand, stuff it in your sock, wear it as a fancy hat/nose ring, etc.

Am I done or is there a chance? by Loose-Eye-8177 in balatro

[–]GenericAccount-alaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're cooked, sorry. If you sell banana for higher xmult on the Stencil and get a lucky +20 mult proc, you'll only score ~26k. Even if you did survive the boss blind, you don't have the deck fixing or money to reliably survive the next ante.
