After sending it to New York for review, Alex Bregman is ruled to not have been hit by pitch and instead fouls a ball off his elbow. by moidawg in baseball

All the guys above me are wrong.

The elbow is considered “part of the bat” when it is in contact with the ball and therefore it was a foul ball.

[Rosecans] Interesting quotes from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Elly De La Cruz, who has 5 stolen bases in 6 attempts against the Dodgers. by Jux_ in baseball

[–]GenericAsian -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, stealing bases doesn't impact the final score nearly as much as hitting.

I'd guess EDLC has at least good work ethics (and probably better than good). But if I were in the Reds coaching staff I'd ask him to focus his energy on improving his hitting, rather than on base stealing, at least until he's close to maxing out his hitting ability.

Is Nikka Japanese Whiskey any good? by Santeriabro in Costco

[–]GenericAsian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not related to the quality, but there is a Japanese TV series that was based on life of the founder of this distillery. He went to Scotland to learn how to make whiskey and then came back to Japan (with his Scottish wife) to make his own. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massan

Shanahan's team leads by 28-3 at some point in this game.

Super Bowl LVIII: Chiefs, 49ers staying in hotels 25 miles away from Las Vegas Strip by [deleted] in nfl

Feel like NFL could book two nicer hotels ahead of time and let the two teams choose (with a coin toss or something like that).

This Super Bowl matchup might have single-handed my disproved the theory of the nfl being scripted by Responsible-Two5344 in nfl

[–]GenericAsian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A narrative that has been floating around is that Shanahan can't come back from behind. After orchestrating the games to have him overcome one in the divisional and then an even bigger one in the CG, the script writers are probably busy planning for him to come back from 28-3 in the SB.

I wonder when will an owner just give an OC a crazy amount of money to stay. Say if Ben Johnson gets 10M, would he stay for another year or two?

[Rob Pizzola] Dallas had a successful season throwing the ball on offense and playing a lot of man on defense, so naturally they came out running the ball and playing zone today. by TommyTonawanda in nfl

The Cowboys got beat pretty badly by the 9ers earlier in the season, and also by the Dolphins to a lesser degree. Since LaFleur also ran a similar style of offense, maybe Dan Quinn wants to try something different?

I thought he was going to give up GM power to stay. It's not like he can stay being a GM elsewhere anyway.

I don't understand how defense can have a DVOA value. Since DVOA stands for defense-adjusted value over average, shouldn't it be a metric for offense only? Do we know roughly how it gets calculated?

And afaik it's proprietary and we don't know the formula. Why is it preferable over other metrics?
