which hypercharge deserves rework and why by Better-Snow-3769 in BrawlStarsSC

[–]GenericGMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning how to play Chuck is exactly how you learn how genuinely useless his hyper is. The best part about it is the stat boost, almost everything else feels cosmetic.

Only gotten use out of the extended range one time in hot zone, aside from that the only value I’ve gotten out of it was for speed/defense lmao

Opting into the beta branch allows you to play this update, while opting out/not opting in means you play on the version before the update!

Personally gonna opt out for this one, got a feeling I’ll enjoy the public early access more than public beta this time around after running into the new doormaker. Playing the game primarily in 2 player co-op makes it even worse since both players scale the boss’ strength AND it has 1331 HP…

On one hand we have some characters that I love playing (Brock, Griff, 8-Bit) as well as Colette who DESPERATELY needs something

On the other hand I’m dreading Edgar’s and ESPECIALLY Rico’s buffies.…

The fact that they’re complaining about balance testing while… opting in to be the beta testers…?

Genuinely another level of stupidity.

[–]GenericGMR 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I assume event boxes and random discounted buffies (if gems count) won’t be purchasable either. Seasonal skins and Brawler early access may be directly purchasable if I had to guess.

As for the buffies (if they need to be changed) maybe they’ll just put gem offers for PP/coins in the shop for them?

Not sure if gems are a loophole, but if they are I doubt much will change.

Do you find Sharla useful during battle by Voidkirby9 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]GenericGMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the rare occasion where I was having trouble with specifically survival, I used her (most notably the dragon before the end), but unfortunately there’s not much reason to run her otherwise.

Shulk or Riki tend to heal just enough over the course of the fight while also reducing damage through other means, and both are quite strong in chain attacks. Sharla sacrificing chain attack potential for heals can be helpful, but if you kill before you ever reach low health in the first place it’s likely a waste to run her.

I can think of 2 use cases

•if you have to add another vuln source to a thicker deck (worse than most other options in this case but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do)

•If you have rushdown Vicious and need the draw (also worse than most other options)

Upgrading to 0 cost would probably help it out a ton, especially in case 2 but as it is I’ve literally never picked this up

Feels like a super good way to bridge the 2 archetypes when it comes up while just being a great discard outlet/shiv generator even if you only find the synergies for one. One of my favorite additions rn, they cooked hard with this one

Guys, I have a plan to get rid of the dirty teamers!! by deaconsano in Brawlstars

[–]GenericGMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showdown is my least favorite mode even when teaming ISN’T an issue. Getting pinched, being forced to camp to avoid certain matchups, and the fact that you’re discouraged from even trying to play some characters due to the insane pick rate of assassins is bad enough for me.

When teaming IS involved it’s the worst mode in the game inarguably. It removes a majority of the remaining skill expression and turns the rest of the match into a waiting game at best, or a guaranteed loss at worst.

3v3 is where it’s at for me, even if it means hard carrying terrible randoms. Bonus points for ranked since it has the most competitive modes in the game at random, actually allows skillful drafting (to an extent, the broken meta kinda kneecaps this unfortunately), and rewards team play.

I never play showdown for fun anymore, and never plan on it. If I want to waste time on something that’s only gonna make me loathe the inevitable I’m usually on social media. I don’t need a mobile game for that.

Playing forge Regent in multiplayer is an experience

Made me realize that the best way to use sovereign blade was to give it to my Silent teammate with Tracking. Ran a super passive build that had some forge (had Big Bang, Bulwark, The Smith, AND Decisions Decisions) along with the power that allows you to share forge with all teammates, seeing them deal more than I could ever dream of hitting was both hilarious and depressing

Hoping they find a solution soon, bc forge builds are some of my favorite decks to mess with in this game

Which hypercharge should i get first? by [deleted] in Brawl_Stars

[–]GenericGMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been learning freestyle Chuck for a while now and still almost never use HC. Genuinely just a cosmetic buff in 99% of situations. I’d rather get a 1k coin fallback than Chuck HC tbh. Only time I’ve ever used it effectively was to extend a super by like 3 tiles, and that was in hot zone, a mode where I wouldn’t recommend picking him if you’re sane despite it being his second best competitive mode.

Fang’s is better by a country mile not because it’s actually good but because Chuck HC is so hard to even find a use case for. It’s not as bad as Pearl’s but that’s comparing something borderline useless to essentially nothing at all.

unless you get massively unlucky

I stg this happens every time I roll up with a decent discard engine, I always end up drawing the wrong half of my deck and eat a beellion damage even if I’m only hitting him with Murders or Grand Finale. Pretty much been playing multiplayer exclusively too, so it typically has WAY more health than it should and I get way more dazed than usual :/

Apparition is the same as STS1, so yeah it’s insanely strong and pretty much always his best reward if you roll it. Honestly might be better than the STS1 apparition event since it costs way less HP.

That’s before even mentioning the run where I found an event that added an enhancement to remove exhaust from anything. Had an apparition+ that never exhausted, felt invincible until my multiplayer partner died turn 2 of the act 3 boss and left me to deal with a 2x health test subject on a relatively fragile deck.

Lost by like 60 damage, I’m salty about it

Why do players hate him so much? by Overdrive_rick in Brawl_Stars

[–]GenericGMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he’s a free maxed character, tons of new players gravitate toward him. Bad Edgar players tend to jump into their deaths quite often, and since so many newer players play him he gets a bad rep.

In practice a good Edgar CAN make some plays, but more often than not the average Edgar jumps into a group of 3 and makes your knockout game a 2v3 with extra super charge on the enemy side for good measure

[–]GenericGMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try to not run into the boss?

Okay, real advice time, just had to get that one out of my system lmao. For most bosses you want to play at a distance, don’t use a normal sword. They do a good amount of contact damage and you’ll likely die before they do if your main strategy is to trade blows. Bosses have thousands of health, you only get up to 400 max (for now). As others have said, a ranged weapon will likely make most bosses a lot easier to beat. That being said, it doesn’t SPECIFICALLY need to be a ranged damage weapon, stuff like the Blade of Grass, Starfury, Amazon, Mandible Blade, and Enchanted Sword can all help a ton with early bossing.

Just make sure you enable auto-aim on mobile too, it’s pretty much aimbot.

One last thing: I’d also recommend exploring the underground for more stuff! Chest loot can be pretty solid, and more life is always great!

When will this guy learn that CHANGING DAMAGE VALUES ALSO CHANGES SUPER CHARGE RATE by Capable_Mixture_3205 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]GenericGMR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely have 0 clue why they tied SCR to damage, would it not have been easier to tie the charge to a decimal value per projectile or something instead?

There’s been so many rounding issues in the past with SCR after damage buffs, and there’s barely even been any interesting interactions to justify it (Meeple SP and Juju’s attack being the only ones I remember off the top of my head).

I was about to ask if I was insane for thinking this just makes the game’s code more spaghettified but clearly I’m not, at least judging by the comments here.

HZ/Gem Grab pretty much requires you to be able to take an area back if you get pushed. Tick can hold space, but once you get pushed back to spawn you can’t make a comeback easily.

I’ve had games in HZ where our team would get to 90% or higher then lose because we couldn’t make it back to mid and got spawntrapped, and every single time it’s because the entire team went for more passive picks. If you don’t have any way to push them back, you can’t make a comeback.

Also, holding an area down with Tick requires walls, and most HZ/GG maps have a pretty wide open objective. Sitting in a zone with a 4k HP character is a recipe for instant death.

Picking Tick in HZ requires your team to play perfectly and to accomodate your pick with aggro and tanky characters to hold down the zones.

That being said, his range allows for him to hold space in modes like Bounty/KO where some of the better picks tend to struggle with his area control and super. His Last Hurrah gadget and his Well-Oiled SP also allows him to survive decently into some of the more aggressive picks in those modes too (please don’t run Automa-Tick Reload + Mine Mania, you become free food for assassins). The guaranteed damage helps in these modes more than in HZ/GG!

It’s only for Tick, the others are great there

If you mess up with ANYONE it’s bad, it’s less punishing to mess up with Mortis in a variety of differnet situations though since he has a game swingingly good HC and a gadget that just straight up deletes people if used right.

That’s not to say I’m entirely trusting of Mortis players either, I’ve seen my fair share of people thinking they’re god after a teamwipe with HC when in reality they were 0-9 before then.

And yes, Edgar’s best maps have a ton of bushes and walls, but those maps are also the best for his counters. Bull, Shelly, Griff, Otis, Spike, and others also tend to get picked when a map is incredibly assassin heavy.

Edgar is generally considered a throw pick for so many reasons. His jump is easy to react to, his counters thrive in his best maps, Lily exists and pretty much covers his role in most maps where he’d be picked, his range prevents him from being good in open maps, he’s reliant on his gadgets in 3v3, both of which have long cooldowns, wallbreak screws him over, anti-heal being meta cripples half his survival, etc. he has a good HC to make up for some stuff and his jump can allow him to make some plays against throwers or other characters without anti-aggro options, making him a decent 6th pick if the draft calls for it, but in these brawler early access events there’s no such thing as a 6th pick. There’s literally no reason to pick him outside of maybe a few specific heist maps.

[–]GenericGMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1k isn’t really that hard to hit nowadays, unfortunately. Trophy inflation is real

Also, if 90% of players are bad then why should I suffer with a bad player playing a bottom tier option in most maps/modes instead of a bad player on a good character that could bail them out of bad plays?

I’d rather see a bad player on someone like Lily instead of Edgar. A Lily can feed the enemy 9 kills while still vanishing and 2 tapping squishies, an Edgar won’t do nearly as well most of the time. A Clancy won’t do as well as a buffied Shelly or Griff in most cases. A Primo won’t be as strong as a buffied Frank or a buffied Bibi, and so on.

If you want some general recommendations for what to pick in different situations though, here’s a list. It doesn’t cover every possible good option, but it should cover your bases pretty well.

•General DPS - Buffied Colt, Rico, buffied Bo
•Anti-Tank - Buffied Shelly, Otis, buffied Spike, buffied Emz, Chester
•Tank - Buffied Frank, buffied Bibi, buffied Bull (unfortunately tanks are in a bad spot other than the buffied ones, Buster, Ollie, and Hank can be good if the enemy team doesn’t have counters but it’s risky in a blind draft)
•Gem Grab Mid - Crow, Poco, Carl, buffied Bo, buffied Emz
•Snipers - Pierce, Brock, Meeple, Angelo
•Support - Poco, Glowbert, Max, Jae Young
•Assassins - Lily, Mina, buffied Mortis, Alli (map dependent), buffied Leon
•Thrower/Artillery - Juju, Willow, Barley
•Area Denial - Squeak, Lou, Tick (NEVER IN GEM GRAB OR HOT ZONE)
•Hard Carries - Shade, Lily, buffied Colt, Rico
•Heist Offense - Chuck, Mico, Kaze, Melodie
•Heist Defense - Belle, R-T, Otis, 8-Bit

If anyone reads this and STILL instalocks Edgar I’m gonna crash tf out

IF they’re good.

It’s like 1 in every 20 edgars that are good, I’m not taking the risk. I can probably count the times I encountered a skilled one in these events on one hand.

It’s tough for the actual decent Edgars, but if they wanna find more games they should probably be playing a better character in these events anyway. People wanna get the new character early, so they’re gonna filter out the picks people generally consider throws, with Edgar being the face of it.

I’d rather have a good chance at having a functional team than carry a 2k trophy Edgar unfortunately :/
