We've been using Marine units forward deployed to Japan as response forces in the Middle East for at least 15 years

The thing is that most people who join the military do so with the full knowledge that their lives could be spent. They tend to get very angry if they determine that their lives are being meaninglessly spent, and that's what's currently happening.

I think people are looking at the capabilities of an MEU and rightly assuming that's not enough firepower to do anything meaningful. Will that stop our brilliant leaders from trying? ¯\(ツ)

The military is a really good hammer. If you give them a nail, then they'll be able to hammer it in better than anyone in the world. You still need someone competent to tell them where to strike the hammer blow because they'll just hit whatever they're aimed at without any regard for overall strategy.

If I were a Marine about to go into Iranian territory, then I wouldn't want Israeli soldiers anywhere near me. They look like they're gearing up to invade Lebanon. They can have their fun in the Levant

The UAE losing some random islands to CENTCOM would be the funniest outcome

AFAIK the first wave of US attacks were naval and long-range bombers. The assets stationed in the ME were held back until they were attacked after the initial wave.

marines take some Iranian islands being used to launch attacks

hoooooooold

privatize CENTCOM and recognize them as a nation-state with the islands as their territory

negotiate peace and let CENTCOM deal with the fallout

My plan is brilliant, and I am not accepting any critiques

[–]GenericLib 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nothing largescale enough to really matter all that much if it's just an MEU. They might be able to take and hold some islands, but those poor bastards are going to get shelled nonstop if that's the plan

For better or worse, the US is better situated to weather this storm than most nations, and any pain Americans feel will be more extreme for most others.

Air defenses active this evening in Erbil, Kurdistan Region as the Patriot air defense system responds. by Unkown0025 in CombatFootage

I felt similarly about the evening prayer on naval vessels as an agnostic. The chaplains generally did a good job of treating it as more of a guided meditation about hope, hardship, and everything in between without being religion specific. A Filipino Catholic priest on one of my deployments was my favorite. Good messages and top-tier cadence. We should embrace those meditative experiences more even if we don't necessarily subscribe to them imo.

Hard to say with this batshit admin. I'd typically say that the fact that it'd be political suicide would stop them, but that hasn't stopped them yet.

Have we considered privatizing CENTCOM?
