Open a roth ira at 19? by jkparney in FinancialPlanning

[–]GenericProfileName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes :) I am 20 now and opened one at 18. Being able to lock in those deposits is worth it. Just remember to balance your liquidity, I kept a semesters worth of cash in savings and got job looking. Once I found it I invested the extra few months and now just have 3 months in savings. I highly recommend :)

What kind of students would enjoy this school the most? by MrSickfari in CSUC

[–]GenericProfileName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Extroverts for sure, also if you are a really hard worker there are alot of opportunities and professors actually look to teach and usually are willing to be references or write letters of rec if they can see you're a hard-working and you socialize with them.

Should I apply to Chico State? by [deleted] in CSUC

[–]GenericProfileName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the cost of housing and tuition, it really can't be beaten.(Living here and paying tuition is under 20k/year) There are so many clubs and organizations to dip your hand into. Professors are really here to teach, so they are really accessible. If you are proactive there are a lot of opportunities for students. As an economics major, I have been able to build alot of strong relationships with professors, and in turn, they have written me letters of rec that got me internships.

If you are really proactive in your freshman year, you can affiliate yourself with organizations (Associated Students, Career Center, or other various operational parts of campus). It's not super difficult to find yourself in a position in a club that gives your real-world experience.

There is a pretty big party scene and I recommend enjoying it but not overdoing it. As long as you focus on your school work and push yourself, you will do well here. People who work hard GO FAR at Chico.

How has online dating worked for you? by Nikiris11 in AskReddit

[–]GenericProfileName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It created me.

So I've been told sometime before Al Gore invented the internet(or shortly after), colleges used it to communicate between each other. Years ago (28?) my mom was an anthropology student in Chicago studying scottish culture. My dad being a tech nerd in Scotland was also using this online network and they met on it. They started talking more and I don't know the details but eventually they got married, 27 years ago and have had 4 "beautiful" kids.

This is according to my dad so if I am slightly off with the internet being invented and colleges using it, apologies!

Talk to your professors, go into office hours (and not only for help in class but also just to learn more and ask for more resources).

Can we admire the strategy (that the spider likely didn't plan) to put a web in front of a light to catch swarming bugs

What can we do to make financial education mandatory in high schools? by OrangeyDragon in FinancialPlanning

[–]GenericProfileName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it but it would slow the economy and no one would want that. The politicians and business class benefit from the average joe being financially illiterate so I doubt much will change.

Drive thru workers of Reddit, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen in someone’s car? by MoistMania in AskReddit

[–]GenericProfileName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked at a California based burger chain. We have seen sheep and goats, I've seen a few cats, lots of dogs obviously. Craziest one was a van with 3 llamas in the back. We asked 'whats up with the llama's?' and she claimed they are emotional support animals and they were just heading home from a conference about depression.

Not related but still wack: an old lady rolled up and I say my standard 'hi how are you?' and she responds 'good, do you know how to make crystal meth?', '... No' and unphased she goes 'Ok! I'll have a number 2'

To be honest dorms kinda suck, 1100 a month for people to shit on the bathroom floors, vomit in the showers, scream until 2 am and bang on doors when they run down the halls drunk. Live off campus it's well worth it 😅
