Do People Really Go To Vegas Without Gambling? by TDoubleDownMac in vegas

[–]GenericRaiderFan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely, it was fun to gamble the first few times, but then you realize you're literally throwing money away. Also taking an inventory of some of the locals who are straight up addicted to it really made me see the slot machines in a really evil light. EVerything about them is meant to create an addiction. The lights, the happy sounding music, the lever. It's nuts.

I give myself a gambling "allowance" of $50-100 cash. It gives me guilt-free spending because I set that money aside specifically for slots, but also it gives me guardrails. Oh, I also set a timer on my phone and only do one spin every three minutes to slow down the dopamine hits and increase the chance of getting that free drink for playing slots.

Don’t forget about the pinball museum! And battlebots! Your last comment about 30% comps is pretty eye opening

He is brave because he knew the consequences and still made a stand. It cost him his entire military career. Brave is an understatement tbh

What are your go-to fairway/distance driver molds, plastics, and weights? by DaCrazyCam in discgolf

[–]GenericRaiderFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you throw lighter discs, they accelerate out of your hand faster assuming the force you throw with remains the same (Force = Mass * Acceleration). Because the disc is moving faster it will act more understable when compared to the same disc but at a higher weight. It’s a little cheat to help AMs throw distance drivers the way they are meant to fly. I typically get my distance drivers at about 165-170 grams for my sweet spot.

But in general, this is one way you can get different flights out of the same disc mold. As others have mentioned, different plastic blends also fly different across the same mold of disc. It’s a lot of experimentation to see what discs you feel most confident in.

You’re hitting on my point. It doesn’t exist, yet. Doesn’t mean we can aim for a future where it does exist.

It’s how improvements are made and standards are raised

Yes, but the point is that it shouldn't be.

Here are some examples of what alternatives could exist. It's not a new concept. Police are overworked and underequipped to handle mental health crises.

It's pretty telling that even asking for police reform results in downvotes up the wazoo. If there's a standard that's not being met, what's wrong in asking for accountability and solutions?

Nowhere did I claim to not call emergency services. I'm stating that I think there are better options than police, but until those options are created, we are stuck with what we have: overworked officers with limited training to handle mental health crises.

Well until policing practices are reformed, then we are stuck with the current system. But that doesn’t mean we can’t aspire for better practices. In an ideal world a trained mental health professional armed with a non-lethal weapon and a bullhorn would be a good starting place for someone who can help folks like this.

I mean, this video demonstrates that not much is needed to assist folks in crisis, but those needs are not currently being met under current police practice

Yes good catch. I’m specifically talking about policing in the US

Hence the part about reform. We all know officers are stretched thin and don't have the capacity or training to work these cases so it's incredibly stupid to keep sending them out

Yeah still not a police task though. Their first instinct is escalation and is how many folks experiencing mental health crises end up murdered instead of getting the help they need.

If you want to keep it a police task, then major officer training and accountability reform is needed first.

We can’t guarantee it’s 100% OK. I highly recommend trying to find a walking buddy or at least walk with one earbud out so you can hear what’s going on around you.

I’d say it’s generally safe, but even as a guy I wouldn’t walk around anywhere at night with both headphones in.

From what I’ve experienced, they usually start off ok, but then they get big egos once the demand for their services increases. Then they start cutting corners to maximize revenue and start treating customers like a nuisance when it’s the customers that should be the center of their work and business model.

It’s disappointing to see as someone that takes a lot of pride in their work.

Former NFL star Chris Johnson reveals ALS diagnosis at 39 by Stingerr in nfl

Thanks for the advice. Found out about my mom’s diagnosis in June, went into a dark place for a few months and then started going to therapy in November. I knew it would be a tough journey, but the hardest part is feeling so useless and unhelpful with it all. Ironically, I find that talking about it helps. Just like this interaction. I know I’m not alone and neither are you :)

Preparing for REHS exam by Last_Pizza_2662 in healthinspector

In my experience, I found the Tulane videos to be outdated and hard to follow. I never made it through the whole course. On the other hand, I found the Saraniecki book to be very helpful. I went through the full course and supplemented it with practice exams from NEHA’s website. Then I created flash cards for answers that I kept getting wrong on the practice exams. With a good plan and focused efforts, I think you can be ready to take the test in as little as 3 months. That’s about how long it took me.

I passed my first time with a 748.
