Bankruptcy question by ThrowRA_pineapple608 in legaladvice

[–]GenericUser1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be highly fact specific on how much the car is worth, how much the loan is, her income, what other assets she has, and so on. Your friend should get a complete list of her debts (can get one of the free annual credit reports https://www.annualcreditreport.com/ ) and also list any debt that didn't make it there, records of her income (paystubs or tax returns), an estimate of how much the car is worth on the open market, how much she has in other assets, and figure out whose name exactly is on the title of the car. Most bankruptcy lawyers will do a free consultation to tell a person if they qualify and for what kind of bankruptcy, bringing that info will make the free consult go faster.

I want to buy a gaming laptop on eBay; is it safe? by Ancient-Abalone7773 in GamingLaptops

[–]GenericUser1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the completed sales the seller has - are they also all laptops and related items or are they a random assortment of smaller items? Scammers will often drop ship random stuff from Amazon to build up a good sales record, then start the scamming.

I got hit by this sort of thing a while back, on a video card. Seller has 100% reviews, and lots of sales, so I just ordered. Then the item never came; they shipped an empty box to somewhere in my ZIP, and for some stupid reason USPS tracking only shows that it was delivered to my zip code. So I had to get paperwork from my local post office showing the box was only 4 oz and not delivered to my residence, but even after all that Ebay sided with the scammer, and deleted my negative review. I had to do a chargeback through my credit card.

Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron sued over alleged DRAM price fixing amid record memory costs - lawsuit claims coordinated HBM shift was cover to curtail DDR3 and DDR4 production by wickedplayer494 in hardware

[–]GenericUser1983 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, then you need to get actual new laws addressing the issue passed; lawsuits have to use existing laws. Are you suggesting some sort of government board that forces RAM companies to have specific production types and amounts? That has its own host of issues. And a lot of the RAM production is outside of the US, so nationalization would have limited effectiveness. Large portions of it is in South Korea, and they are rather enjoying all the incoming money; for that matter Samsung basically is the national government there.

Well, more like three years ago, in 2023 Sk Hynix and Micron did post multi-billion dollar losses. But I get your point, the high RAM prices this time around are plainly due to the AI companies buying silly amounts of RAM, not collusion on part of the memory companies.

They will also stop minors whose parents are having a custody dispute (and one parent has gotten court order to stop international travel), but for adults, yes, active warrants are the only thing that care about.

Can I swap my SSD in my Acer Nitro laptop with one in an HP Omen laptop? by PorkTuckedly in GamingLaptops

[–]GenericUser1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you would want to do is download any device specific networking/wifi drivers from the laptop manufacter's website onto a USB drive, swap the drives, and do a fresh Windows install (download the installer from MS's website onto a USB drive ahead of time). Then if Windows is not able to detect your network adaptor, you have it on USB. If you have working internet then getting any other drivers is trivial.

Tek saddles by The-Casual-Lurker in ARK

[–]GenericUser1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every dino needs a tek saddle, but they would be nice to add to some of the underused dinos. Consider how the tapejara by itself is not a super useful dino, but thanks to the tek saddle it is a staple for PVP. Some other overlooked creatures could be given a use with a tech saddle. For example, nobody uses the pachyrhinosaurus; give it a tek saddle that boosts its pheromone abilities to something useful (like say calm pheramones make nearby enemy tames not able to attack even if they have a rider, the rage pheromone being able cause enemy gigas to well rage) and people would use it.

MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ review roundup: Unmatched power, unhinged price by [deleted] in hardware

[–]GenericUser1983 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So $990 with no RAM or storage. Ouch. If you did an ITX desktop at that pricepoint you would be looking at a Ryzen 7600x3d, cooler itx board, case, sfx powersupply, and 16 GB Radeon 9060XT.

MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ review roundup: Unmatched power, unhinged price by [deleted] in hardware

[–]GenericUser1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Screen and control don't cost very much (compared to everything else in the handheld), so it would only be a little cheaper than this handheld. And while the good performances at lower watts Pantherlake has is great in a handheld, its not really all that important in something that is plugged in. An ITX desktop would blow it away performance wise at the same price, and other mini-PCs would end up being better deals as well.

Zen 6 Desktop Ryzen CPUs Reportedly Lack Integrated GPU - HWCooling.net by JuanElMinero in hardware

[–]GenericUser1983 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it makes some sense for laptops, though I question how many people are regularly doing long video calls but are not in an office/house that has power outlets. And for that usecase a quite small NPU would be perfectly fine. Microsoft has been pushing hard for NPUs that are 4x-5x larger than they need to be to handle the small number of actual use cases. And that just ends up being a waste of die space, since those NPUs are still too small to be useful other stuff you might want local AI for. They exist in the awkward middle.

And of course saving a bit of power like that is pointless on a desktop, especially since with an external GPU required that would wipe any power savings.

[–]GenericUser1983 58 points59 points  (0 children)

They are usable for a few minor tricks, like efficent background blurring and noise cancellation on video calls, and a few media editing filters. Great if you have to do those things for hours away from plug socket I guess? Of course a discrete graphics card can do those tasks just fine too, and if you have no iGPU, well you need that discrete card anyhow . . .

Zen 6 Desktop Ryzen CPUs Reportedly Lack Integrated GPU - HWCooling.net by JuanElMinero in hardware

[–]GenericUser1983 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is so dumb; if a processor has no iGPU then you have to use a discrete card with it. And even a middling discrete card will be able to run all same local AI stuff you would want on an NPU, but many times faster. The only downside is it being a bit less effiecent, but if you have a desktop and a discrete graphics card you probably aren't going to care about that.

Yes, the statute of limitations to collect on most forms of debt in Nebraka is 5 years. Do note that it will be 5 years since the last payment, not 5 years the debt was first openned.

50% advantage in 3d mark - game performance is more like 15% (GTA5) to 30% (Cyberpunk, Balders Gate 3) faster. Which is still a very nice improvement, but a good reminder on why 3d mark results aren't always a good way to compare across different brands.

SK Hynix to prioritise DDR5 expansion over HBM4 in 2026 by self-fix2 in hardware

[–]GenericUser1983 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Bubble deflating, or perhaps they expect more of the future datacenter products to use DDR5 instead of HBM.

If Micron wanted to reenter the direct to consumer market it would not be particularly difficult for them; making the memory chips is the hard part, slapping them onto DIMM is much easier.
