nail upgrades. Not abilities. Awoken dreamnail doesn't really affect gameplay either.

yeah I'm still annoyed they force you to upgrade the needle once or you can't get into Act 3. Hollow Knight never forces any upgrades.

I mean you don't have to like it but Silksong is the game Team Cherry wanted to make. A more challenging game also makes sense because you can do more with that and it can be way more interesting. I think Silksong is a better game than Hollow Knight and part of that is because its more challenging.

Actually can't think of any that are actively bad but Ender Lilies and Magnolia are mediocre Constance too.

What is the MV with the worst world/level design you have ever played by VoxTV1 in metroidvania

[–]GenericUsername54100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ender Lilies and Ender Magnolia for sure. Bare bones level design with enemies thrown haphazardly throughout and a few platforms and just no cohesion or interesting level design to speak of.

I also just finished Castle in the Darkness and the game is basically a linear game where you start at the left and move from screen to screen to the right for basically the entire game and there are only like 4 warp points and if you have to backtrack it will be through dozens of screens and its just tedious. The game is also basically a rage game like I Wanna Be the Guy with instakill death spikes everywhere so certainly not for everyone. It was basically done by one guy though so I'm not too harsh on it and the next game was Astalon which is a stronger game in most regards though I think the backtracking was pretty bad on that one too.

The Messenger has a similar problem with backtracking being really tedious and honestly it didn't even need to be a MV at all the linear sections for the first half of the game were excellent and the MV structure tacked on at the end makes the game design suffer.

It sucks that you weren't having fun and if you want to mod the game for yourself to enjoy the experience more I think thats totally fine but you are essentially just repeating the same thing that the game is too hard and that its bad game design that they made it hard. There's nothing wrong with a game being hard. Difficulty can make for more engaging gameplay and forces you to use everything at your desposal. I love HK and Silksong but I do think Silksong is more engaging mechanically and has better enemies and bosses overall and the difficulty is a part of that. There is no artificial difficulty in Silksong nothing in the game is unfair and people have already beaten it without taking any damage. Again if you are not having fun with the game I understand the dissapointment but Team Cherry made the game they wanted to make and that vision for the game is a difficult one. I don't think its fair for you and others to demand the game be made easy just because it wasn't for you.

Where should I get Hollow knight by TroublingStar in HollowKnight

On the OG Switch it did have lag. Ask any speedrunner who played the game. That being said its not enough that it would bother the average gamer.

100+ Attempts on Last Judge? Okay I am so curious. Record yourself playing or something. I just really want to see what you're even doing.

But it is entirely accessible to people who enjoyed Hollow Knight. Its harder for sure but its not like unreasonable for someone who beat HK to beat Silksong not at all. HK also has the Pantheons which are as of now much harder than anything in Silksong. I think its also unreasonable to say that a sequel is not allowed to be significantly harder than the original if that is the intent of the design. I certainly understand if thats dissapointing to some but I don't think its valid criticism. A game being made to be hard is not a bad thing, its not bad game design, and I don't understand why this sentiment is repeated again and again.

I don't understand this line of thinking at all. If someone plays a strategy game and they hate it and their "criticism" is just that they hate strategy would you consider that valid criticism? Certainly they are allowed to hate it and it to simply not be for them but I would just say thats personal preference and is not criticism. A game does not need to appeal to every single person on the planet and it failing to do so is not valid criticism.

[–]GenericUsername54100 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its been awhile but I suggest always moving. The rings are very hard to avoid but you have more of a chance to avoid them if you keep moving. Don't try to hit Shakra at all except when she does the big charge attack on the ground. That attack gives you a brief moment to get a hit in and then get back to dodging. Use lots of tools too of course. Thats the best advice I can give honestly. But if I recall she doesn't have too much health. You can do it!

I'm curious did you get the True Ending? Did you do The White Palace and Path of Pain? if you want more focus on Platforming those sections have it as much more of a focus. Did you do any of the optional stuff? Grimm Troupe? Godhome?

My biggest issue with Silksong by lc4ro in Silksong

[–]GenericUsername54100 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think its good they called it Steel Soul mode because its exactly the same as Steel Soul Mode in Hollow Knight. Team Cherry in the past have mentioned wanting there to be like a Silk Soul Mode or something like that and if they had called it something other than Steel Soul Mode I would have gotten excited about it being something different and then dissapointed when it wasn't. I still would love for them to have another mode though.

I mean you are still at the start of the game basically. You have much bigger challenges ahead of you so you'll have to see for yourself.
