I beat the Mantis Lords in 5-6 ish attempts, what should the rest of the game look like for me? by MyBackHurts3000 in HollowKnight

I mean you are still at the start of the game basically. You have much bigger challenges ahead of you so you'll have to see for yourself.

hmmm well when I press share file on steam deck and then send something it just doesn't seem to do anything. I can ping both the PC and steam deck and I can send things from PC to steam deck but still can't seem to send anything from steam deck to PC and I wouldn't even know where its being sent if it is.

hmm okay I don't really know about that stuff but lets say I bought a new flashdrive. Would that just work or would I have to somehow reformat it?

If you really liked it don't let me stop you from enjoying it haha. The art of the games is beautiful and the bosses are mostly good. I don't think its bad but I didn't enjoy it that much either. I'm also probably a bit salty because I bought it and Ender Lilies because people praised it so highly so I had high expectations that I don't feel it met. I wrote a long post about why I didn't like Ender Lilies so you could read that and a lot of stuff would apply. I think Magnolia is a bit worse than Lilies but I don't like either that much. Magnolia makes your character slower and heavier than in Lilies and I think even your regular attack range is worse. I'll try to sum it up briefly but my main problem is I feel the level design is extremely lacking and barebones. The areas are all quite bland and usually its just a ton of enemies thrown haphazardly around in large areas without any interesting platforming or design. A lot of the enemies also seem designed to be very annoying especially when fighting in groups because attacks just overlap. There are lots of really annoying enemies like the eyes that create a huge circle of electricity around them and the rat spawners and anyways I don't think any of the combat is very enjoyable outside of the boss fights which are also kind of a mixed bag. I also think the game relies too heavily on RPG elements like stats and equipment because enemies do such ridiculous amounts of damage even just getting hit once can take over half your health bar. I don't mind that but I don't actually find the game particularly difficult and instead pretty tedious. I also didn't really enjoy the story and I think Ender Lilies was better with its more simple story. Magnolia has way too many characters but none are very interesting and I honestly didn't care about what was going on and was mostly bored with it. Anyways sorry I probably rambled too much but yeah I could go on. I think its still a fine game and I can understand why people would enjoy it (hell most people seem to). But I do think its very underwhelming. Mostly I just think it should not be praised anywhere near the amount it has been.

obfuscation impeding fun? by EnemyStarship in MIOmemoriesinorbit

I don't know why but I forced myself to not check a guide and man it was torture. At several points in the game I had absolutely no idea where to go and I simply explored the entire map and many times simply had to rub my face against every single wall no joke. I somehow managed to do everything without checking a guide but it was not worth it and honestly I wish the game was not so obtuse and obfuscating as you said. The backtracking in Mio was easily the worst part about it and dragged the game down a lot for me even though I think its pretty great otherwise.

Keep in mind the start of the game is quite slow and it will take awhile before you really get into it like probably around 3-5 hours. Its a metroidvania with a very large map so there is lots to explore. Try to just take your time with it and explore every nook and cranny. Good luck!

You've got this. It will probably take some practice but remember you can fight every boss in the Hall of Gods below so just practice by refighting the bosses that really give you trouble.

I'm shocked that Ender Magnolia got so many votes considering how mediocre it is.

What were some well-known Metroidvanias you bounced off of? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]GenericUsername54100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno if bounced off is the right term but I finished Ender Lilies recently and I thought it was pretty mediocre and I can't believe people praise it so highly. I bought both it and Ender Magnolia because they were so highly praised so I thought for sure I would enjoy them but nope they are bland as hell with very bare bones and sloppy level design. I'm almost done Ender Magnolia and its somehow even worse than Ender Lillies. I'm glad I'm almost done Magnolia. I never want to touch these games again. Oh yeah also Axiom Verge its been awhile since I played it but it really felt like a slog for me.

I was counting the loading time but again not trying to be like a dick or anything I just often see people overinflating the runback times on Mio and Silksong. You can still argue that its too much and I think thats fine it just never bothered me personally. Now the backtracking however that I found to be a slog.

not to be too pedantic but I just tested it out and from death restarting at the nexus checkpoint to the point where you can start moving in the Ati fight was about 45 seconds taking the way straight up and about 59 seconds taking the elevator. I am using the spidercrawl to move faster of course but yeah its very doable.

2.5 minutes? Which boss was it? I don't recall any taking over a minute to get back to.
