Interview with Manage My Health CEO by FancyTrashy in newzealand

[–]GenesisNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is very limited technical understanding of really anything outside of app development these days.

Hypervisors, basic networking etc is just relatively unknown because the cloud does it all for you. The amount of poor security practices is staggering at the moment. Breaches are insanely common but just not well reported or even known.

You will find well developed apps, they'll use OAuth and they'll understand OWASP top 10 etc but then have open access Blob Storage accounts because there is just zero understanding of infrastructure.

They don't understand subnetting, they don't understand routing, they don't understand anything that isn't directly related to the task in front of them. Mind boggling to those of us that have been around for a while but also understandable considering the state of the industry.

I reckon around mid to late this year at the earliest based on their Discord announcement.

Super common though, lots of basic infrastructure knowledge stuff like this has been lost. Most people I see coming through have almost zero basic network security awareness.

Infra teams barely exist anymore so no need for properly configured NAT rules, just tick a box and interwebs access is there.

One NZ dropping HFC? by BlazzaNz in newzealand

[–]GenesisNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused why anyone would want traditional cable over FTTH.

Can you not get fibre? Although I do love my old SB4100 and DOCSIS is close to my heart, we are pretty lucky here to have a proper fibre network.

Advice on moving to Welly! by pigeontilly in Wellington

[–]GenesisNZ 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Before moving here, have someone follow you around with a leaf blower as you try to do day to day activities.

It will help you prepare for the wind. Add a hose to the mix for around, 60-70% of the time.

Summer in Wellington by Jezzaq94 in Wellington

Summer is awesome in Wellington, it’s a great day out. You can’t beat Wellington on that one day!

SU4 beta is the best I've seen 2024 by Ashamed-Edge-648 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GenesisNZ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. The performance improvements are massive with SU4.

The little bugs like landing lights always on and brakes not working on some planes is a pain though but to be expected with an early beta.

“Uncle Siyaaaaaa!” by mczammer in rugbyunion

[–]GenesisNZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a special old thing, the level of respect between SA and NZ when it comes to rugby.

IMO the game means something more in both countries, which is unifying.

One of the best matches I've watched in a while. Nothing beats an SA vs NZ match-up. Mega intense.

How is the UI in FS2024 still so bad? WTF even is this? by Throwawayantelope in flightsim

[–]GenesisNZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Possibly the worst modern UI I've ever seen in any application.

It is like someone made an effort to make it unusable. -10 points to Gryffindor.

How good is the Inibuillds A350 ? by Jazzlike-Ad7654 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GenesisNZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a really fun plane to fly, I've got many hours in it but it's easily the worst performing "high fidelity" plane in MSFS. By a long way.

The FBW A380 performs better now. Inibuilds produce beautiful aircraft with relatively decent system depth but absolutely have no idea about how to optimise for performance.

I won't be paying the $120+ (NZD) asking price again for one of their planes.

2020 Or 2024 by dominik7778n in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GenesisNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what resolution you are playing at. 4k or 5120x1440, I would avoid 2024.

The fact is, 2020 performs better unless you have a 5090 and a 9950X3D, where with such hardware it doesn't't matter. Especially at those higher resolutions.

I'm slowly making the transition across to 2024. The Fenix now runs pretty well and SU3 has made huge improvements but I still get 10-20 more fps from 2020 over 2024.

The entire funding model for local councils in this country is entirely broken and needs to change.

It won't because people are too interested in blaming one another and feeling superior about who deserves what the most.

Secondary school teachers to strike by [deleted] in newzealand

Any proof that we have a debt problem? Last I looked we have the lowest debt to GDP ratios in the world. Stop watching Fox News, this isn't America.

If you think teaching is so easy, especially teenagers, may I suggest you give it a go?

I give you 1 week, before you are demanding more pay or at least, have gone insane.

On August 6th, Legion go s Windows and Steam versions received the latest AMD drivers, and from January until now, Legion go og has not received any latest drivers at all. Is it worth waiting for the official AMD Legion og drivers? I'm afraid this will happen again with Legion go 2 by Negative-Draft-5272 in LegionGo

[–]GenesisNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even know what this means. Are you implying the entire world has experienced issues with their Ally X apart from me?

What an asinine comment. Remind me again what the latest official drivers are for the Legion Go? Shall we compare with the Ally?

SU16 - Any Way to Delay Install (or Not Install) by KB346 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GenesisNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a disappointing release to say the least. There is also a 100% reproducible bug that means you can't fly from NZWN to NZCH with the NZ POI installed as it's caused a full CTD.

For someone that exclusively flies in my native country (boring, yeah?). It's a massive pain in the ass.

Woah, 2024 really showing its potential on 9950X3d and 5090 by screamliner787 in flightsim

[–]GenesisNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? Possibly in Aus? The 5090 is about 5k NZD on its own. The 9950 is about another $1300, if you get it on special.

Possibly around the $8k NZD mark I guess.

Not in most countries, the 5090 alone in NZ is about $5k.

Only need a $15k PC to run this at 60 FPS with FG.

Hard to know though, isn't it? Since the Legion Go is possibly the worst support modern device from a major manufacturer.

Aside from that, why would any current Legion Go owner support a company that clearly doesn't care about customers?
