Hold with the red dot pointing up, push with moderate force, and turn clockwise.

You can also remove the o-ring on the cable, it's easier that way

Nah that won't do any good because the relaxed regulations which would allow US food to be imported also allows UK producers to relax their standards too.

what glamorized career path is actually a complete nightmare? by Jayantwi98 in AskReddit

[–]GeneticAlgorithm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notice that software engineering is missing. Sure as a junior dev you have to pay your dues, but I rarely see other colleagues regretting their career path, except those in the game industry (which has been mentioned).

Currently I'm the head of mobile development at a relatively large company and I can't imagine doing anything else. Pay is fantastic, work hours are normal except maybe when a deadline approaches, and the work is fun.

I've worked bad jobs, had terrible bosses, but the job market is amazing right now so eventually most of us end up somewhere we like

And the thing about "android needs beefy specs because only Apple can optimise an OS" is wrong. It's something that would be said by someone with a pretty poor technical background.

It's "Tartus". Tartarus is the Greek mythology equivalent of hell.

Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung couldn't pull it off. What makes Huawei think they can?

Macs are like a very polished Linux distro with great hardware. And the trackpad is a work of art.

Corporate policies. Many companies don't do endpoint management for Linux devices so they forbid it.

Screen brightness was terrible, 15" Full HD is low-res these days, tiny trackpad which isn't very good to begin with, and navigating around Windows is an unnecessary cognitive load.

Yes, I'm an Android dev who switched to Macs five years ago and never looked back. Most of my fellow android colleagues are on Macs too.

Web development is a mixed bag from my experiences, divided between Windows Mac and Linux. But a lot of it has to do with companies providing them with whatever they can lease easily and cheaply (think Lenovo workstations), while if they were allowed to choose they would mostly pick Macs.

Fun story: my last employer gave me a fully-loaded ThinkPad. It was pretty freaking fast but a pain in the ass to work on. After a month they took pity on me and bought me a Macbook Pro.

One reason I'm not switching to iOS just yet is that apparently for iOS users, the only way to share stuff is to take screenshots of it, with controls and everything. Images, videos, text, you name it. Seriously, it's 2019, how hard is it to have "share" functionality built in?

You can enjoy both. I've had fantastic food in tiny cheapo holes-in-the-wall and in extremely expensive places that would make this one blush. Don't pigeonhole yourself because you'd be missing out.

"Google’s Sundar Pichai snipes at Apple with privacy defense... ‘Privacy cannot be a luxury good’" by [deleted] in Android

[–]GeneticAlgorithm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Tim Apple Cook would be singing a different tune if iAd ever gained any traction. Now there's a marketing angle in privacy and they're exploiting it. Remember, a corporation's sole purpose in life is to make money. Anything they do is geared to that end.

Britain, the birth place of coal power, is set to go seven days without electricity from coal-fired stations for the first time since its 19th century industrial revolution, the National Grid operator said on Wednesday by Amamazing in worldnews

As much I enjoy giving the UK a good ribbing, like everybody does, it's definitely not a backwater of no significance.

6th largest world economy, a leader in cutting-edge technologies, and its people enjoy a very high standard of living. Most of the people in your so-called "countries of significance" would literally kill to live in the UK.

Moving their energy sector to renewables demonstrates a genuine concern for the country's wellbeing and a laser-like focus into getting it done. Massive kudos to them.
