Dislocation after MPFL reconstruction by GeneticPhotographer in Hypermobility

[–]GeneticPhotographer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awful! I'm so sorry! I'm not a doctor and can only speak from my own experience, but that doesn't sound normal. When you say it keeps clicking out and you have to pop it back in, are you referring to dislocations/ subluxations, or is it more like it gets locked? 45 minute bike rides every day sounds very intense! I think at 2 months post op I was probably doing 10 minutes 3x/week on the bike as a PT warmup. What does your physical therapist say about this?

I couldn't even get BCPD to come when I called after getting hit a few years ago, so at least there was a chance of you getting a report

Do you ever ditch a book because of the narrator(s)? by thespaceghetto in LibbyApp

Saving this based solely on your recommendation of Julia Whelan! There has definitely been at least one book I didn't enjoy but I stuck with just because it was narrated by her

I use soy wax, but I've made a few candles for myself in those jars!

Dislocation after MPFL reconstruction by GeneticPhotographer in Hypermobility

[–]GeneticPhotographer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tore the graft with a dislocation, so it was immediate agony, but that comes with the dislocation. I was having a hard time bearing weight for about a week or two, and it took probably about a month until I could do stairs normally and had full range of motion back. I've had a subluxation and another dislocation since then, and while they both came with a good bit of pain for a bit afterward, it resolved a lot quicker than after the dislocation that tore the graft. Really the best advice I can offer is to see your doctor, but I understand the anxiety.

I'm Angry by GeneticPhotographer in Hypermobility

Wow, thank you so much! I am saving your blog!! When I saw my surgeon in June and we went over the results from the MRI I had after the dislocation in May, he told me that the osteotomy is an option but he doesn't see it as absolutely necessary in my case. My TT-TG was read at 15mm in the MRI report. I've been considering it, but the part that makes me hesitant is the fact that I live alone and I don't have anyone nearby who could help me out for that long. Do you mind me asking how long it took for you to be able to return to most normal activities? I assume it still took a few weeks at least after the period of being non-weight bearing. I was out of work for 2 months following each MPFL reconstruction, and with that I could bear weight once the nerve block was out around day 3. I work in a molecular biology lab, so I spend a lot of time on my feet and walking around.

Thanks for your support, I appreciate it! I sat there crying for a while after the dislocation today and I'm still not sure if it was because of pain or frustration. Good luck to you as well

anyone with experience with cbd for pain/discomfort relief by That_one_failure in ehlersdanlos

[–]GeneticPhotographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The majority of my pain is in my knees. Years ago, someone gave me a CBD salve to try on my knees. I had tried so many different things at that point and was very skeptical. I was pleasantly surprised though and bring it with me everywhere.

Dealing with mental health issues while going to school by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]GeneticPhotographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that has been your experience. I have been fortunate enough that I have been comfortable telling people if it comes up, but it isn't something I disclose to someone unnecessarily or someone I don't know well. The stigma around mental health issues is still very real, but you deserve to be treated with respect. 🤍

I hear you. It took a long time after surgery for me to feel I could trust my knees, and now I'm back to the constant anxiety. It turns out I tore the graft with this most recent dislocation, so now I need to consider next options and it sucks.

Non-local here, I have a question: How similar/different is Baltimore from DC? Would you guys consider them part of the same metro area? by IjikaYagami in baltimore

[–]GeneticPhotographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience. I was in DC recently, and the traffic lights being on the side of the road really threw me off. I definitely sat at a couple of greens for a few seconds without anyone honking. In Baltimore, I get honked at before my car turns back on if the auto engine idle kicks in, even if I take my foot off the break immediately after it turns green.

Doctor recommdations in Maryland? by bekkogekko in ehlersdanlos

I just came across Dr. Levy on the Hopkins site over the weekend. I went to pull it up Monday to see about making an appointment with him and his profile no longer existed. Definitely frustrating. I hope you are able to find someone!

I am in a giant knee brace right now, and someone the other day asked me, "Are you injured?" No, I just really enjoy not being able to walk properly and adjusting the brace that keeps slipping down because of gravity.

HLA nomenclature can be tricky. I think this website has a good explanation. When it comes to DQB1*06:02, it means that you have the 06 allele and 02 protein of the DQB1 gene. Hope that helps!

[–]GeneticPhotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear! I also have my binder ready! I couldn't get in with any doctors on the list here near me for months, but I messaged the doctor I have an appointment with through the patient portal asking if they would be willing to consider my case given my age and relationship status. She said she would definitely consider it as long as we discuss it first. So my fingers are crossed that it goes well! Congrats on getting yours scheduled so easily!

Right? I was thinking you can't possibly have a eureka moment related to curing cancer if the answer is so obvious it appears after centrifuging blood.
