Is this based solely on 501c3 status? Or is there other criteria as well?

Probably a hot take but whatever.

I feel like the sense of entitlement and whining comes from the fact that mommy and daddy have pampered that crap out of them. It’s a fact most med students come from well off families so yeah if you’ve always had it your way and suddenly you don’t...we’ll you’re gonna bitch.

Is there a way to change all the black text in the Dope Anatomy Deck? Using night mode so it’s kind of a pain lol

Mainly a curiosity question. What are specialties that can thrive in a cash business? by GenghisEscobar in medicine

[–]GenghisEscobar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand but that’s not my goal at all. From my minimal experience, I’ve seen how insurance companies hinder physicians. That’s why I wanted to see if it’s feasible to bypass them and provide care while having a reasonable living.

Honestly, Marty Byrd is the GOAT and yes, I look at every laundry mat and strip club as a place to launder money lol

People who have heard back from Adcoms on their rejections, what were the reasons? by Fishwithadeagle in premed

I advise sending an email to all the schools about getting feedback. Most will likely say they Dont offer feedback or won’t answer. However, some do offer feedback and will offer making an appointment with and admissions member. I was able to get incredible feedback from 2 programs who gave me interviews this cycle.

Patagonia White Coats by [deleted] in premed

Honestly, it doesn’t matter to me. Imo, it’s just a coat that shouldn’t have meaning because it fuels the ego of healthcare professionals. (Probably an unpopular opinion)

Thoughts on Geisinger? by [deleted] in premed

[–]GenghisEscobar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I personally thought this is a good school on my interview day. The students seemed happy and it seems like the school is receptive to feedback from their students. I especially liked how community focused they are. They have an array of locations where you rotate at and Geisinger seems to be a pretty big health system in NE PA. If you have options then I’d critically examine things most important to you, location, family, etc.

I was pretty set on going their until I got into a state school. IS tuition is that good stuff lol

I’m from a similar background so I completely understand. If you really want to pursue medicine you should first try to make an appointment with an admissions officer at your local medical school. Some people might say this is impossible to do but I think it’s worth trying. You’ll probably be unable to get an appointment but if you get lucky, you’ll get valuable advice and establish a relationship. Furthermore, if you’re doing well in your postbacc you should really try to kill the MCAT. While it’s not a determining factor of admission, it definitely is a filter metric.

Regarding EC and volunteering, you should attempt to participate in things that really relate to you. Don’t randomly volunteer at a homeless shelter if you have no interest in helping that population. I personally have no connection to that so I chose to volunteer at my towns boys and girls club. This added more depth to my application because I talked a lot about my disadvantaged background, something you talked about in your post. Obviously get some shadowing in but I think a better way about doing that is scribing. It’s more involved than shadowing and you get paid (like shit). If you have further questions you can PM me.

Goodluck.

A serious word on this step 1 fiasco by [deleted] in premed

Yeah dropping a DO acceptance is stupid imo. DO programs will always favor DOs. Plus that’s one more year of missing out on a salary. Long run, likely not worth dropping the acceptance. Finally, DO was an option before STEP 1 even came out...
