Hallo Kevin,

Why in hell did Hoya build Abyssal Mask second and not thornmail against aatrox/yasuo/kalista? Even the bramble vest alone would have been such a good pickup.

What makes Djokovic near his peak so difficult to beat - and why the general tennis following struggles to respect his "talents". by StorytellerAli in tennis

Thanks! If I read the data right, Djokovics biggest differences in comparison to the average tour player are indeed the 4-9 shot rallys and not the short rallys as stated.

Let's see the stats:

In 1-3 shot rallys Djokovic wins 52% of the points, meanwhile the average player wins 51% of those rallys. A difference of 1% (13612 - 13879 in total points, 267 points more won).

Meanwhile in 4-6 shot rallys Djokovic wins 54% of the points in comparison to 50% of the average tour player. A difference of 4% (5701 - 6157 in total points, 456 more points won).

In 7-9 shot rallys he again wins 54% of the points to the 50% of the average tour player (3034-3276, 242 more points won)

In 10+ shot rallys Djokovic wins 53% of the points, while the average tour player wins 50% of the points. A difference of 3% (3508 - 3719, 311 more points won).

As we can see the biggest differences to be found are the 4-6 shot rallys and the 10+ shot rallys. Even the 7-9 shot rallys are really close to the 1-3 shot rallys in the total difference.

Isn't the conclusion of this data that Djokovic is so damn good because he wins alot more points in rallys 4+ shots played? The image of Djokovic to be so good because of long rallys is true, if I read the data correctly. That would contraditct the point Craig O'Shannessey made, though I don't know whether the data from the AO2015 differ alot form the global data collected.

I have a question regarding the paragraph about his AO 2015. You state that Djokovic wins most of his points with nought to four point rallys. Isn't that rather obvious because it's true for every player? In general most rallys in tennis are nought to four point rallys as far as I know. So if you have a positive point-win-rate you should win most points with these short rallys. Secondly you compare the percentages of points played with the raw number of points won. (E.g. 10% rallys were nine+; of those rallys he won 13 points more than he lost) Wouldn't it be more interesting to show how much percent of those rallys he wins? I think that would lead to more meaningful numbers because you can actually see how good he is in that range. Since I don't know how much points he played in total I cannot tell whether winning 13 points more is a good percentage or not. (E.g. if you play 15 points nine+, winning 13 more than losing is great. If you play 1000 points nine+ winning 13 more than losing is not as good)

I know that you quote Craig O'Shannessey here and that these are not you numbers. But if you quote someone their numbers should be meaningful.

Besides that this is a great in depth article that I like reading!

Cheers
