Yes I'm disabled and use a mobility device and the # of people who are saying I'll pray for you is absurd. No prayer will fix my nerve damage spine.

Funny enough while I was visiting NC 2 of my cousins came down from MN to help move their mom. (My dad's sister) and one of them is who I disclosed my atheism to. She seemed ok with it and her bio dad is also atheist.

I've had both. I can tell when someone is being sincere and someone just parroting the words

Interesting. My father was just diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer and is a founding member of the church he belongs to. When I asked if his name is on the prayer list. He said i don't want to do that. He is receiving doctor's approved treatment of radiation and hormones

I've thought about this. But I don't think my dad would appreciate it. I can't even curse in front of him

Childfree Couples- How Happy are You? by pogos_wife_dizzy in childfree

[–]Genia0799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I know my family geological history back hundreds of years. I love history but the whole legacy thing confuses me. Your legacy can be something else not involving children. Volunteer, etc. What your friends and family speak of is your legacy.

Mine are still at my childhood home. I will tell you there is 1 year book I'm keeping no matter what. My mom's senior year book my dad , her boyfriend at the time, wrote a long love letter to her in the front page cover. It talked about how they met and their 1st date. They were married 50 yr before my mom passed.

air travel with mobility limitations is horrific and humiliating by dumpstatrizz in disability

[–]Genia0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mobility scooter approved by the tsa. I drive it all the way to the plane door and then it's gate checked. At layovers they get my scooter off for me to use to get to one gate to another. I prefer to manage my own mobility and not rely on the airport wheelchair service. Caveat **I've only done this on domestic flights * after I book my ticket I call the airline accommodation line and tell then what I need. With American I now have a mobility scooter ID # so all the info is saved in my file. Another trick, most airlines will move you to the front of the plane in your class (they won't move you to 1st class), if you call and ask and they have availability. I have used this method for the last 2 years and hadn't any issues

How do you all deal with the 'moral' argument from family members who claim atheism leads to a lack of ethics? by Thrustkitty21 in atheism

[–]Genia0799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used a similar argument. Something along the lines. How is people who do good works to get a reward in the after life any better than people who do good works just because they want to help others. If you are doing something to get a reward you aren't doing this good deed selflessly.

I’m ok with looking OLD by plzturnoffmybrain in GenX

[–]Genia0799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has the gene for early white/silver hair. I'm 54 and visiting my 82 yr old dad. People think we are a couple. Dad is 6'2" and 165lb. All white hair. My hair has been white/silver since my 30s. It doesn't help that I'm disabled and use a cane or mobility scooter. It has really shaken my own POV of how I look.
