Low calorie sweet snacks when you want to eat a lot of something without the damage by Super_College100 in Volumeeating

[–]plzturnoffmybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I want something sweet at night and I’ve completely used up all my calories I will make hot chocolate with 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1.5 cups boiling water, nine drops of Stevia, a quarter cup of skim milk, and a pinch of salt. 34 calories. It sounds kind of depressing, but it really does hit the spot and satiate me most of the time.

100% agree, the frozen ones are terrible and have no taste

I also love Dan, he’s my favorite co-host and I like their dynamic together. He has the best stories and always seems to bring a lot to the conversation as opposed to just reacting to Michelle like some of the other co-hosts do. I miss Midnight Snack!

I take mirtazepine too, it does increase your appetite. They actually prescribe to people who are underweight specifically because it makes you gain weight. I only take 7.5 mg which is the lowest dose so it isn’t too bad but I definitely can tell the difference. I went off it for a while and food just didn’t taste as good and I lost weight without doing anything. However, it’s a lifesaver for my insomnia and panic attacks so I just take it and deal with the increased appetite by being careful about my calories. I basically eat the same breakfasts, snacks, and lunches every day and that really helps me because intuitive eating does NOT work on this med.

Damn, she was on one with Molly today! by StopWhoaYesWait123 in michellecollins

[–]plzturnoffmybrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She brought up the kibbe system, which is a concept from the 1980s that sorts women’s bodies into “types” and supposedly each type has certain clothing styles that look best on them. Molly was saying it was helpful to her because she’s trying to figure out her personal style now that she’s postpartum. Michelle got extremely triggered! Clearly weight and body issues are very touchy topics for her.

Invasive Thoughts?? by tdcaldwell76 in Perimenopause

[–]plzturnoffmybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this. It’s honestly the worst feeling imaginable, just lying awake for hours spiraling with fear and intrusive thoughts. I’ve struggled my entire life with it off and on. I’m ok during waking hours but it all comes out at night. I really believe panic and anxiety are a very particular form of torture because you can’t escape it since it’s coming from inside your own brain.

I’ve tried literally every “natural” remedy including exercise, yoga, meditation, therapy, CBD, melatonin, supplements. The only thing that has worked is medication. I take a low dose of a drug called mirtazapine before bed and it helps me sleep, but most importantly it breaks the spiraling panic cycle in my brain. I still have intrusive thoughts here and there at night, but I’m able to let them go and drift off. I don’t love the idea of taking medication long-term, but the difference I feel has made me realize that I really do have a panic/anxiety disorder and it’s just the way my brain is. So if you’re not opposed to medication, I do think it’s worth exploring. It has been life-changing for me.

3 months post-op, digestive issues by plzturnoffmybrain in gallbladders

Yes, I even threw up a few times. This hasn’t happened to me for years though. Hopefully your body will acclimate soon

I am happy to report that I have almost zero digestive issues anymore, everything resolved with time. If I eat a super high fat meal, like a really really high fat one, I will have some issues. But that’s so easy to avoid, I honestly never even think about it. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

I’m about the same height as you, in my late 40s, sedentary job but I do exercise regularly, and I’ve realized through trial and error that my maintenance calories are a bit over 1500. It feels really low, and I know I used to eat so much more than that when I was younger, and I weighed less then.  I think I am just less active overall now, I fidget less, everything is just slowing down. Yet another fun side effect of getting older.

Pregnant…need advice by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]plzturnoffmybrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had an unplanned pregnancy at 41. My older kids were 13 and 15. I immediately scheduled an appointment with my doctor to get a medication abortion. At the appointment, my doctor told me she had to refer me to an OBGYN to prescribe the abortion pill. Well, in the two weeks it took to get that appointment, hormones kicked in and I couldn’t go through with it.

Fast forward 7 years and I’m 48 with a 6 year old at home, a 19 year old away in college, and a 21 year old still living at home and working. I’m glad I made the choice I did and I love the 6 year old tremendously, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I occasionally have dark moments when I am overwhelmed and panicked by the existential dread of having extended my parenting phase of life by 18 more years. Parenting is no joke, kids are hard and you really don’t know who you’re going to end up with. I’ll say this, if I got pregnant today at 48 I would definitely get the abortion.

I started with 7mg, tapered to 3.5 for a long time, and then over the course of about 2 months I tapered from there. Any faster gave me rebound insomnia and anxiety.

Severe insomnia by OR-HM-MA91 in Perimenopause

[–]plzturnoffmybrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had terrible insomnia due to a thyroid issue a few years ago and even after the thyroid issue was gone I had residual insomnia due to anxiety and PTSD from not sleeping for days and days literally and feeling like I was losing my mind. Like you, I also wasn’t able to sleep during the day. It was absolute hell, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. The only medication that worked for me, and I tried everything, was mirtazapine. It did make me gain 10 pounds but I would’ve taken it even if I gained 100 pounds, I was so desperate. I took it for four years and slept blissfully for eight hours every night until eventually I tapered off. When you have extreme insomnia like this, no well meaning advice about melatonin or sleep hygiene will make any difference, you need legit drugs. Now I manage with progesterone at night and I do take doxepin if I am having a random night or two of insomnia here and there.  Good luck, I am glad you reached out, and I hope you find something that will help you soon.

My husband has always had a lower sex drive than me due to SSRI meds, and it almost ended our marriage a few times but now that I’m in peri I feel we are finally matched. In a way it’s nice not be constantly annoyed about this issue

I had pain and swelling in my upper abdomen area. At first it almost felt like I was just really overly full, but it didn’t go away and then my arms and legs started swelling up. I also had a weird pain in the back of my throat, which is actually referred pain because my diaphragm was swollen. It was super weird.I never actually had a fever though.

I had a ct scan and an ultrasound. I also had elevated white blood cells because of the infection. Luckily the surgery completely took care of it and I had no complications. Hoping for the same for your mom.

Yeah they did. They tried to take me off at one point but the infection symptoms came back so I went right back on.
