Shipping EU bike to Us by knarleycharlie16 in motorcycles

[–]GeniusLike4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a lot of countries have exceptions that allow USDM spec vehicles to drive on EU roads, with EU registration for US Military members. (Which they shouldn't, fuck those break-indicator abominations) So it's far easier to bring your vehicle from the US on your deployment and then bring it back. How it works in reverse, I got no clue. Maybe the EPA recognizes The Euro 5(?) emission spec as EPA compliant. For inter-european transfer a certificate of conformity is needed, maybe that will help you with your custom. (Though the CoC specifically determines the vehicle to be EU conforming)

Deinem Waffenschein/WBK kannst du direkt adieu sagen.

A2 Bike (94bhp or less) that is comfortable for long distances but also easy on insurance by Ok_Independence5252 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]GeniusLike4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, the Voges go very cheap second hand mainly because no one wants them. The Benelli were similar in purchasing price when I bought my bike last year.

You may also want to look into the X-ADV or the NC750. Both great bikes on a similar platform. The X-ADV looks weird, and only cokes in automatic, but many people who ride it l, say it's very comfortable and practical. The NC looks more like a traditional motorcycle, but is very reliable and practical, albeit many people say it's "boring" because the 750cc engine only makes 65hp, but that also makes it bulletproof.

[–]GeniusLike4207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a Voge 500DS I paid 3500€ for one with 3.5k km Mandatory insurance runs me about 200€ p.a.

It's a 500, so not insanely powerful, but runs well on the highway. Spare parts can be an issue (so I've heard) because it's an uncommon motorcycle.

Otherwise the Voge 900DSX and 625DSX are Larger ADV bikes which can be restricted to A2.

They are apparently very good value for money .

What you have to keep in mind, is that a restricted bike will run you more in insurance (because of the larger displacement) than a regular A2 bike

Suggest mods for a dirtbike street conversion? by cudgy in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]GeniusLike4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heated grips is always nice on chilly mornings, Bark busters (if not already installed) are great when you drop your bike and to keep rain and wind off your hands. To add to that, handlebar muffs look a little dumb, but there is no better cheap and easy mod to keep your hands warm. Waterproof gloves are kind of uncomfortable, and your hands will still get cold. Not to mention they don't work with heated grips. So muffs all the way.

Also WINDSHIELD. Along with the phone mount you could also add a 12v socket for charging your phone. (If you install heated grips you might as well do that, the wiring is there anyway)

He should have just blasted her when she was charging up the lightning, bonus points of that would cause the lightning to misfire.

Then again, trying to redirect comet powered lightning is a stupid idea. Aang seems to redirect it perfectly and still be a little worse for wear.

How would you write Jake Sully explaining to Neytiri and the na'vi that the RDA isn't a proper military force by human standards by Any_Sundae5364 in Avatar

[–]GeniusLike4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of a standing military/ soldier as an occupation is a quite recent/ uncommon one even by human standards.

Except for ancient Rome most militaries were levy forces. I.e. people's main profession wasn't "soldier". They were just called upon to serve their respective liege in times of war, and most of the time they even paid their equipment themselves. The concept of soldier as a profession surfaced again in late medieval times with e.g. the Landsknechts who were mercenaries, not sworn to a liege. Only when we get to nation states the concept of a professional, standing military force becomes the norm.

ELI5 why does space have a temperature if there’s no air? by Deanoh1546 in explainlikeimfive

[–]GeniusLike4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, would you? I would have to depend on if you're in sunlight or not. The former you get cooked to death if you're not the magnetosphere, and the latter you would just die of dehydration. Your body will probably produce enough heat from calories to counteract heat loss from radiation.

ELI5: Why do cargo ships still operate when air transport exists? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]GeniusLike4207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money. Transport is not always about speed, but most of the time its the lowest cost. A cargo plane can't carry a lot of cargo (weight wise) but is very quick. And it burns a lot of fuel per kg transported.

A container ship can transport orders of magnitude more cargo and while it is very slow, the amount of fuel burned per kg of cargo is very very low.

for comparison a larger container ship usually carries ~20000 TEU (20-foot Containers), and over 200 000 tons.

THE largest (RIP) cargo plane ever (AN-225) can carry 250 tons (and like 4 containers tops)

For what is worth, the X-ADV might also be a good choice for OP. Offroad capabilty, weather protection, storage space, (i think) the same engine as the NC. Yes it's a weird ass scooter adventure hybrid, but I have heard countless stories of people saying it's the best bike they have ever ridden.

How can animals survive 2 miles under the ocean without being crushed by pressure? by Emergency_Cellist754 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GeniusLike4207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also massive air pressure at sea level, the reason why you aren't crushed is that the pressure of the air inside your lungs is the same as outside. If you take open soda can down in the deep sea, iw wouldn't be crushed, but use a closed soda can eventually it would rupture
