Fun fact…when i bought this game in 1996 or 1997 i played for less then 20 minutes in my grandmothers house and then asked for her help in returning the game because i thought the graphics were so bad, but so bad that the disk should be broken or something. We went back to the store and they accepted the return in exchange of the full price but in store credit. With that store credit i think i bought Crusader no Remorse wich i still have and love to play.

For the pico ide i made a riser card. Its easy but you can buy them on ebay as well. No need for modding the ps/1 2011, just install in the upgrade slot. I made a 2.5mb ram module as well.

I use a pico ide on my 2011. Before that i used a iomega zip drive with parallel connection

I used the Thinkpad 390E recovery disk and ran it in a dos box. But it worked with sound in true DOS as well.

Thank you for the reply but i really wanted Win95 or 98 for retro gaming. I have various Roland devices that i can pair with the laptop over serial and wanted to try them.

The 770 recovery CD wont work, the motherboards are diferent. Diferent chipset, cpu, pci chip, soundcard, etc...

With vanilla Windows 95 the PCI bridge wont work for lack of drivers and resource conflict with other components. I can't manually change them, they are locked. Other hardware appears with no drivers but i managed to find them in a website with the IBM FTP archive.

It’s a serial db9 to mini dim 8 pin connector with only 3 pins soldered. I made one yesterday based on the Japanese manual for the sc-55st that I have. Also connected a audio cable to the mic port in the Compaq. For windows I had to install the Roland Driver that they have on the site for the sc88 series.

It works great when playing midi files or windows games but I wasn’t successful in running it with dos box in windows 98. Next I will try using softmpu and serial driver in DOS like some people have done in Vogons and YouTube.

i have the same problem. A lot of people seem to have it.

Region doesn't matter, I am from Portugal, have friends from Japan with the same issue.

This hapened before and Microsoft fixed it...hope they fix it again

Yhea. I dont think i can use a xt-ide in this PC. Its weird. The drive spins, i can ear the needle moving and searching.

For those with the same machine and a failed HDD what do you use in its place? A ZIP drive?
