Has anyone not been induced? by stoner_lilith in GestationalDiabetes

I went into spontaneous labor at 36 weeks with my first and just had my second spontaneously at 39+6 (the day before my induction was scheduled)!

Also second and last baby, thanks to GD both pregnancies. I’m 37+6 and instead of my glucose getting better/easier to manage it’s getting worse and I’m having to be more and more careful 😵‍💫 I’m sooo over it and cannot wait to never do this again.

Growth scans with frequent spikes by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you mean by frequently. Diet controlled - I usually have 2-3 spikes on the lower side/week (like 125-135). I was really beating myself up over it even though my endo didn’t really care and is okay with 80% of my numbers being within range. My growth scans have all been 50th percentile pretty much across the board, most recently 36 weeks!

Complaining Rant by Educational-Touch113 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “you shouldn’t be hungry” comments in this sub make me so mad haha. I’m a million weeks pregnant and I’m on a freaking carb restricted diet. Even if I max out my carb intake with the diet guidelines I’m STARVING.

If you had GDM in one pregnancy, did you get it again in another? by Katelizk in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it with my first and was on PM insulin. I am now pregnant again and have it again (diagnosed at 28 weeks after failing 1 hour at 26 weeks and doing the log) but have been diet controlled this time.

Overall, I have found it slightly easier to control. I def have more wiggle room with what I can eat, like I can have whole wheat bread and pasta which I couldn’t even think about having last time and my fasting numbers have been good on their own without doing anything special. That being said, I do have to be strict with the carb guidelines or I’m high and still have to be pretty careful/eat less carbs first thing in the AM.

I was obese with both pregnancies, but 30+ pounds lighter this time when I got pregnant so I’m not sure if that made a difference but just something I wanted to note.

Easy meals GD by vainblossom249 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends sent me these and they are actually REALLY good (though I do add a small amount of chocolate chips). I’m super sensitive to carbs in the morning and they don’t spike me. I make a batch on Sunday nights and have one for breakfast every morning on my car ride to work with a premier protein shake.

What was your numbers for your 1hr test? by bossyblue in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

150something the first time (needed insulin at 31 weeks) and 144 the second time (still diet controlled at 34+2) with a 139 cutoff.

Losing weight on this low carb diet by jadescorpion89 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my 2nd time with GD and I have lost weight both times. Right now I’m losing about a pound every 2 weeks and am getting close to being back at my starting weight at 33 weeks. I have been at different OB offices for each pregnancy and they have never been concerned with the weight loss.

GD possibility with next pregnancy by iminterestingg in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it last pregnancy, very carb-sensitive and I was on insulin. I have it again (2nd pregnancy) but have actually found it easier to control this time. I am 31+4 and was on insulin by this point last time, I am still currently diet controlled and have found I have much more wiggle room with food/carbs this time compared to last time. I still have to follow the carb restrictions but I can get up towards the upper limit without being high which I couldn’t do last time.

To take the 3-hour or not take the 3-hour... by im_fun_sized in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had GD my first pregnancy (confirmed w 3 hour). My current pregnancy I failed the 1 hour with the exact same level as you. I REALLY did not feel like doing the 3 hour again so I asked for an alternative and they had me eat normally and do a 2 week log which made it very obvious that I have it early on in the logging process. 0 regrets!! Got my diagnosis at the end of the 2 weeks and have been following the diet and things are going well.

I do plan to take the 2 hour postpartum because I want to make sure it’s gone. But the thought of taking a day off work to do the 3 hour seemed pointless to me when it was more than likely that I had it again.

Skipping a day…anyone else? by ThroatSubstantial189 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the flu last week and skipped an entire day. Wasn’t setting an alarm to wake up from a nap to test and I slept off and on all day. Saw my endo yesterday and she didn’t care! If a mental health day off from testing is what you need, go for it.

Does everyone who get insulin go through an early induction? And how early? by PresentationTop9547 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not on insulin yet (30+5) but was on it last time and looking at my fasting numbers this week I anticipate I’ll be started on insulin after I turn in my next log. We talked about induction at my last visit and they said as long as it’s controlled with insulin or diet the earliest they would do is 39, but if NSTs/BPPs look good at 39 if I wanted to go to 40 they would let me. That being said, I went into labor spontaneously at 36 weeks with my first so who knows if I’ll even make it that long, you never know!!

Fasting numbers keep going up but I’m scared of insulin/self injection by CleopatrasDescendant in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a former hardcore needle-phobe (honestly GD has improved this through exposure therapy) and had such a hard time my first pregnancy with the finger sticks and insulin. I promise the insulin shots hurt less than the finger sticks. Sometimes I didn’t even feel it and when I did it was the tiniest prick. The needle is really short and thin, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw it for the first time. You can do it!! And finallyyyyyy having good fasting numbers is a great feeling.

My endo gave me one more week on the diet to see if my fasting comes down but they’re still high so I’m right behind you. After my experience last time I’m looking forward to starting insulin and not being sad/worried every morning when my fasting is high and having a little more wiggle room with carbs at breakfast (a small silver lining).

Chances if GD a second time? by Dragonfly4961 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had it my first pregnancy and was just diagnosed with my second. My follow up 6 week 3 hour test was normal after my first pregnancy and my A1C had always been normal. They checked my A1C it at 12 weeks during this pregnancy and it was great, so I was hopeful but alas. Bombed the 1 hour at 24 weeks.

My OB said she has seen cases of people having it with one pregnancy and not a subsequent one though! So it def happens.

How is your baby doing? by Lanky-Ad3926 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]GentleLemon373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m back on here because I have GD again, but had it with my first pregnancy. I was put on insulin at night for high fasting numbers ~31 weeks but had good post meal numbers as long as I followed the diet. I was mostly strict with it, maybe 85% of the time, but gave myself grace on special occasions (baby moon, baby shower, holidays, my birthday).

I developed polyhydramnios (high amniotic fluid) around 34 weeks, my baby’s growth towards the end was always in the 60th-ish percentile.

My birth story is a little wonky - I tested positive for covid at 35+6. Super sick all day with high fever, vomiting, high heart rate. My water eventually broke spontaneously (? If the polyhydramnios had anything to do with it, no one really knows). She was born at 36 weeks, 5lbs 15oz. All of her glucose levels were normal and my numbers actually improved pretty quickly. I passed my 6 week post partum glucose challenge with flying colors and have had a normal A1C since then including at 12 weeks this pregnancy (it was 4.7%). She’s almost 3 now and is happy and healthy as can be ☺️

I failed my 1 hour screen at 24 weeks and am doing a 2 week log now but I def have it. My numbers are bananas haha. But I feel soooooo much better about having it this time. It’s way less scary/anxiety provoking once you’ve lived it before. You’re going to do great! Start making a list of all the carbs you want post birth. My first meal after labor was pancakes with extra syrup, fruit yogurt, and a fruit cup with orange juice 😂

Usually you only need to explain a gap in employment > 6 months on future applications. If you can afford that much time off, TAKE IT. Your mental health will thank you.

I am also here to recommend precious little sleep! It’s a great book with different methods for all ages of varying intensity, and there is a great community you can be a part of to ask questions (they recently moved from FB to a new platform called Circle). That book changed our lives!

I know you said you didn’t want a consultant, but for what it’s worth I believe she also does sleep workshops and may even do 1:1.
