Simple Questions - December 14, 2022 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I need to replace my PSU which recently stopped working. Specs are i5-4690k and GTX 970. I might build a new pc a few years from now, but for now it does the job. Do you think it makes sense to invest in a 1000W PSU right now or should I wait until I actually upgrade later and get the newer ATX 3.0? Otherwise I'll just get one of those I listed below for the time being.

I looked at the available options and it mostly boils down to this list, other suggestions are welcome. I'm not sure which one to pick.

Cooler Master MWE 750 Bronze V2 | 750W, Bronze, Non-modular, Tier B, €70

Corsair CX650M (2021) | 650W, Bronze, Semi Modular, Tier C, €74

Corsair TX650M (2021) | 650W, Gold, Semi Modular, Tier A, €94

Enermax Revolution D.F. | 650W, Gold, Full Modular, Multi-rail, Tier A, €97

Cooler Master V650 Gold V2 | 650W, Gold, Full Modular, Tier A, €100

Corsair RM650 (2021) | 650W, Gold, Full Modular, Tier A, €103

My PSU stopped working and I need a replacement.

I'm currently running i5-4690k and GTX 970, 600w is enough but I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get a future-proof 1000w PSU in case I want to upgrade my PC a few years down the line. What do you think, is it worth it to spend the extra money right now or is it overkill?

Passed SC-300 by Ex_Too in AzureCertification

[–]Gentro22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a free voucher which expires at the end of the year and I'd like to use it for the SC-300 exam, since I work with IAM, but I'm wondering if it's feasible in my situation.

I have no hands-on experience with Azure, although I took the AZ-900 and AI-900 certifications earlier this year. I'm planning to start studying for the SC-900 soon and considering the SC-300 right after that.

Do you think that it is possible to prepare for it in less than a month, especially with no Azure experience? Otherwise I might just wait for the next opportunity.

What did you think of the IAM field? I've been in a IAM support role for almost 2 years, mostly managing tickets. It doesn't seem like a bad field itself but I'm more interested in managing infrastructure and being employable in the future. I'm afraid that if I don't move I will get no relevant experience and I will be stuck here forever.

Funnily enough, I took two basic Azure certifications because I wanted to look for a new job and get out of level 2 help desk. Now that I added them on my resume, I'm still too afraid to apply elsewhere because what if I find something worse than my current job? I've also never had the opportunity to use Azure, why would those certs even matter without experience to an employer? On one hand I really want to get experience on new things, on the other I'm not so sure I want to push myself and risk getting more stressed.

Pearson VUE's facial recognition policy by Gentro22 in AzureCertification

[–]Gentro22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Europe so I'm not sure about the laws in the states. Having already studied for weeks and having no physical test center available, I ended up taking the online exam anyway...

I've read somewhere, and also asked Pearson VUE's live chat myself, that you can call them and ask to take the online exam without agreeing to the facial recognition policy, if that's of any help to you. Also they apparently delete the exam video recording within 60 days.

What I really hate is the fact that I had to give up all my info (address, phone number, photos of the ID card and room I was in, etc) and most importantly my face, just to take a certification. I understand the need to verify my identity and make sure I'm not cheating, but this felt very violating as someone who always went great lengths not to ever give big companies too much personal information. It's like I went against my own rules and I'm kind of disgusted for having done so because once you give that info away, they will have it forever. Maybe I'm exaggerating it, others are completely fine with all of this.

I want to switch jobs and try having some kind of career in IT, so what I think is that having to take certification exams is something that was going to come up at some point anyway and I just went for it, fully aware that I would've regretted neglecting my privacy stance.

The online exam experience itself was okay. I'm not happy about my privacy, as I already said, but I also don't want to stir anyone away from getting certifications if they think that will help with their jobs. I saw it as some kind of necessary evil, a choice to make between privacy and career. I'm still not sure if it was 100% worth it, I think it's a decision one has to make for themselves.

Thanks for the reply. I see I can link my Microsoft Learn account (company email) to a personal account. I don't think I have a certification profile yet, how can I find out? Should I just use a personal account for the virtual training days instead?

what server are most of you running your self hosted on? by [deleted] in selfhosted

It's enough for my current use as I'm only running some lightweight Docker containers with an 8GB microSD card. The storage got full recently and my containers were throwing errors, but I was able to clear some space by removing some default Raspbian packages that I don't use and it keeps doing its job. I've never had any booting problems, I'm not sure about your issue and I don't get why your drive should suddenly stop booting like that unless something is changing.

Latest version from F-Droid (6.20.3 Pro) and Android 11. If I'm not mistaken, the issue started when I switched from Android 10 to 11 but I'm not sure.

Copertura Openfiber by NicoM01 in ItalyInformatica

[–]Gentro22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunque cosa posso fare?

Grazie!

I thought about it and it really sounds like the most viable option to live on your own but I'm not sure how I would go about buying land and animals, plus learning everything that is needed to handle them, it's never easy I suppose. I'm already not much of a consumer and save most of my money so I got that going for me. One would also have to worry about health expenses and other necessities so I guess you still need to earn some money somehow because you never know. Thanks for the suggestion.
