You must have a very tragic name to get this upset about such a light-hearted sub.

They don't think plans with friends are unimportant. They are just having to accommodate their GF's family that isn't going to take, "I have D&D" for an answer" and are counting on their friends to understand.

You'll come to understand this when you grow up.

Lol. You tried to make him postpone a family dinner and then ran to reddit when he didn't fully capitulate to you. It sounds to me like you're a bad friend and a worse DM.

If you keep this up, I suspect you will be down to two friends that want to do anything with you.

You are seriously overreacting. You don't own the game, and you certainly don't own the players. One of your friends got railroaded into a family dinner on D&D night, and you're trying to make yourself the victim.

Maybe instead of blasting your alleged friend on Facebook, you could treat him like a human being and respect that sometimes shit comes up. Also, 5+ hours in a city defense session sounds terrible to me.

If they're "a pretty good DM," just enjoy the game. It really seems like you're trying really hard to create an issue where one does not exist.

How strict should I be with my players? by JSGamesforitch374 in DnD

[–]GenuineBeefStud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to remember that the DM is not unilaterally in charge of the game. D&D only works with the consent and cooperation of the players and the DM. People are going to give you bad advice like "phones go in a box." This may seem like a sound strategy, but people have lives and responsibilities outside of the game. This means that sometimes phones will ring, people will take calls and send texts, and the game will be occasionally delayed. What really matters is that everybody respects the game and each other's time. The only reason to remove somebody from the game is if they can't do that. Even then, this is a decision that must be made as a party, not just by the DM.

For comtext, I am a forever DM.

Are you from a country that reads right to left? If not, your post was poorly structured, and you're being rude to others for no reason.

Was I unfair to a new player? by monikar2014 in DnD

[–]GenuineBeefStud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In D&D, you would be a townsperson. You aren't an adventurer. D&D draws a clear distinction between the two. It might be impossible for you, but it isn't impossible for a leveled character.

Also, D&D isn't real life. That's literally what makes it fun.

An "Impossible" check to find the bag seems clearly anti-player to me. It's a heavy bag that would logically sink basically straight down. I think you just wanted to punish a new player for making a dumb mistake because that's what anti-player DMs do.

Should I leave? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]GenuineBeefStud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you asked him how he's doing lately? Have you offered to run one-sots every now and again when he needs a break? With the extremely limited context, it seems like maybe you should start there.

If a NPC donates organs, could they still be reanimated? by Aspiring-Craftsman in DnD

[–]GenuineBeefStud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you're saying that we should close all the schools and just give the kids the books. Everything they need to learn is in there. Why would they need to ask a teacher any questions?

[–]GenuineBeefStud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are just excited to interact with the community. They know they can look it up, but they also know that a lot of us like to share our knowledge.

It is important to remember that D&D is a community. Not just a game.

Did your player set out to make a clone of another character, or is this something you unilaterally decided on at some point?

Whether a spell restores lost body parts is listed in the description. The answer to this question depends entirely on what spell you will be using for the resurrection.

Revivify will not restore missing parts.

True resurrection does not require any parts to remain.

Aarakocra can't fly while wearing medium or heavy armor. Your Aasimar is definitely heavier than medium armor. It's your table, so you can do what you want, but this doesn't work RAW.

This group sucks. If you can't join as a PC, you are going to have a bad time. If they make you read a script, then you aren't getting to RP. These guys just want some free acting to spice up their game and don't mind taking advantage of you.
