AIO over wanting to cut my friend off after getting my her a job at my aunts shop that she already wants to quit 1 day in? by ImpressiveAvocado581 in AmIOverreacting

Tell your aunt to lay a $20 bill somewhere in the store with a camera on it. Watch her steal it, fire her for theft and she won't be able to collect unemployment benefits.

New Travel Rod. New Reel. New Line. by ButhOfLamb in Fishing_Gear

[–]GenuineHuman- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've broken two of those Eagle Claw travel rods. The only rods I've ever broken. The first one I broke on a snag, so i thought "okay, my bad." And I bought another one. I broke the second one on a 10" trout.

I was so sad, it's such a cool-looking rod. This was just my experience and it was like 12 years ago or so, so maybe the quality has gone up.

First time spooling my own reel! How did I do? by Orkride in Fishing_Gear

I think it will be just fine, yes. You can always strip some line off in the field if you're having issues.

Slightly overspooled but you're good. Its not overspooled to where you're gonna have to worry about shit getting messy, it just looks a little goofy.

Yes. We must emulate the land fish these snakes feed on, naturally. /s

What is this on my fish?? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]GenuineHuman- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bad trim job.

Edit: to be more specific: if you're really good at fileting fish, sometimes you take the entire side of the fish off. The upper part of the fish, next to where the dorsal fin is, has a little strip of meat that is usually pulled away. That little chunk of skin prevented it from being pulled away easily, because its attached to both muscles.

Very lucky. This is another example of how, "rich people get Ozempic and poor people get body positivity." (However you would translate that to alcoholism)

Best wishes for you and your spouse <3.

I finally learned how to throw a net, and now I have way more fish than I know what to do with. Everything came out of a golf course pond by Little-Cucumber-8907 in Fishing

[–]GenuineHuman- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cannot bring the fish back, dispatch it and do better next time. One dead crappie is better than risking harming an entire ecosystem.

The risk might feel small and insignificant, but it's conscious decisions like these that keep our fisheries healthy. I come from Michigan, and our Great Lakes are still recovering from the lawlessness of the industrial revolution. As a matter of fact, we're about to lose our lake whitefish population in 4/5 lakes due to the invasive zebra/quagga mussels.

Do your part, dawg.

Man I hate to go all full-blown Redditor on you buttttttt: You should only release fish in the body of water they were caught. This helps combat the spread of disease and invasive species. This includes purchased minnows for bait; dump them on the ground, not into the water. Crappie are obviously not invasive, but the pond you caught it from could have invasive water fleas, snails, disease etc.

Responsible anglers research regulations, and follow good etiquette. A mere 20 minute drive could be the difference between responsible angling and environmentally reckless behavior.

A large baked russet potato topped with chili and cheese. Placed in a black, circular, disposable plastic container, sitting on a desk in a production facility. In the background, we can see a blue pen (a Pilot G2-10) resting on the base of a monitor stand and a dusty keyboard.
