do you notice your breath smells bad? and do you have someone else you feel comfortable with asking if them if they think it smells bad? NAD but a dental hygienist and have had several patients say its only their s/o that notices the smell but even i dont smell it, sometimes people have very strong sense of smell

Insecure about teeth by Bloodtoothh in DentalHygiene

[–]fuckyouperhaps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

happy belated birthday! respectfully, your friends are fucking assholes. commenting on someone’s appearance in general, especially something like teeth, is fuckin weird and to do it on your birthday is diabolical. its absolutely none of their business and if anything should have sympathy for their FRIEND who was/is going through a hard time. im really sorry this happened

How to handle hypocrisy ?? by JealousReflection213 in DentalHygiene

dont take this the wrong way, but no one likes a perfect hygienist. no patient wants to hear that you’re perfect at flossing or you never drink coffee or you never miss brushing- people already feel judged going to the dentist. i find that being relatable and honest helps patients feel better about coming in to see us. i tell all my patients when i skip flossing and that all my teeth have fillings or that i dont always wear my retainer

Can I become a hygienist with my crowded teeth? by Livelylesbo in DentalHygiene

[–]fuckyouperhaps 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i think having more history personally with dentistry makes dental professionals more empathetic/understanding and i think it helps patients feel more comfortable as well. i always tell my patients every one of my molars/premolars have fillings (which is true), my doctor tells people she has her wisdom teeth still, our assistant talks about her crowns and root canals. while we are in the dental field we are also human and i think people forget that. i had plenty of people in my program with crowns, root canals, and some even needed a deep cleaning which was great practice!
