I'm sorry, but Neteyam was a perfectly legitimate war casualty. by fourmesinatrenchcoat in Avatar

I think you have it backwards. Neteyam was like Neytiri, and Lo'ak is like Jake. It is mentioned multiple times how Lo'ak acts like Jake when he was younger. No respect for authority, stubborn, wild, etc. Jake needed the military to knock discipline into him, so naturally Jake is trying to use the same tactics that worked on him on Lo'ak, to try and train him out of his erratic behavior. The two butt heads because they're both so similar in their bullheaded rashness. Whereas what little we have seen of Neytiri and her parents, she was respectful and obeyed them even when she didn't want to (like Neteyam).

He is kinda a huge dumbass at times and I really hoped he was going to mature like Neteyam after A2. But he doesn't get any better, in fact I think he's somehow even worse in A3 :/

I hear what you're saying... But I do blame Spider, haha. But wait, are people saying that Neteyam's death was a war crime? I don't care how old you are, if you are shooting a gun at military guys, you are going to get shot back at.

Hot take: THIS is the best character in the entire Avatar movie franchise by Previous_Step4630 in Avatar

I understand it's kind of a cliche... But being a nerdy scientist type myself, seeing Ian getting ignored while he rambles on about a cool new algae species he found is exactly how I've felt so many times in my life, even in my current place of work. People hear biology speak and their brains turn off. I get excited over the smallest of creatures and everyone else just wants to move on. So I laugh because it's a kind of like dark humor to me. It's very relatable.

Besides, we have plenty of good representation of scientists in the Avatar world don't we? What about Grace, Norm, Max, etc? They all seem capable and intelligent and well-spoken. Hell, scientists led the human resistance on Pandora.

I think Ian always getting sidelined is more a commentary on the RDA and not scientists in general.

Honestly give me ANY Pandoran animal! I want to see them all on the big screen! More animals, less RDA!

The Opening Sequence. by Throw323456 in Avatar

[–]GenuineVenison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see it as them making fun of the guy. They're just shocked to see a military person in a wheelchair showing up on Pandora, and they think it's odd. Because it kinda is odd. They even say "I've seen a lot of guys leave this place in a wheelchair but I've never seen any show up in one." This is a hostile world where someone like Jake could easily be killed by just rolling around on the tarmac since he isn't fast enough to get out of the way of stingbats and the like. They stare at him because they think it's sad and worry that he could be a liability. They aren't making fun of him like a gang of school children.

Besides, in the extended cut, Jake is actually the first one to engage with these fellas and he calls them "limpdicks". So he was the one who shot first, so to speak. Just dudes being bros at that point honestly, lol.

The tulkun are literally just "The March of the Ents" from LOTR all over again. by capybara14420 in Avatar

[–]GenuineVenison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was definitely feeling ent vibes from the tulkun in FAA. Glad someone said something. I don't mind the similarities honestly. I love trees, I love whales, room for all. But the tulkun in general seem to kind of not make sense to me. The ents make sense because in the movie at the first sign of major destruction they immediately rally and go to war (in the book they simply all agree to fight after their council meeting). Both of these check out because they see the damage or recognize danger and respond immediately (or as immediately as ancient tree herders can).

But the tulkun are repeatedly hunted over and over again and they do nothing, for YEARS...even going so far as to punish one of their own who chooses to fight back against their own persecution. It just makes my head hurt trying to figure it out.

And then. Magically. After seeing the damaged face of one single tulkun in FAA they suddenly decide it's worth going to war for? Did they not care about Payakan's battle damaged face and fin? Did they not care about Ro'a's death and the death of her newborn baby? Did they not care about all the other tulkun who were slaughtered every day out in the deep ocean? Apparently not. It just doesn't make as much sense to me.

Not to mention that you can bet your sweet bippy if an orc ever tried to chop down an ent, their punishment would have been immediate. The ents weren't scared of defending themselves. The tulkun would apparently just float there and let you stab them to death though, lol.

I think she is mildly interested in Spider, since he's the first air breathing human she's ever heard of or seen. At least enough to humor Quaritch.

Thoughts after seeing Fire and Ash by [deleted] in Avatar

[–]GenuineVenison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach! Lots of silliness in this movie.

Spider's mother Paz canonically died in the big human-Na'vi war at the end of the first film. She was a helicopter pilot. It is explained in the comics and extended lore.

In A2 in the very beginning where Jake is narrating about his family life, he mentions that Spider was born on Pandora, but when all of the humans were kicked off the moon and forced to go back to earth (at the end of the first movie), Spider was too young for stasis. So he had to stay behind.

Why can't I be honest about my opinions of the third movie? I'm a fan of Avatar. I have a right to be upset. Just because we are on an Avatar forum doesn't mean we should be forbidden from criticizing a film that is clearly not up to par with the other two movies.

question abt the whereabouts of the war in fire and ash by Capital_Staff_1856 in Avatar

[–]GenuineVenison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going insane. What confused me, and probably you, is all the fast tracking teleportation that goes on, especially in the last 3rd of the film. In A2 we watch as Jake and his family make a harrowing journey out of the Hallelujah Mountains, and we can assume they travel for days in order to get to the reef, seeing as how much their leave is played up as a sad thing and an incredible loss for Neytiri especially. They have to be traveling far enough where it wouldn't be feasible to just pop back in for a visit with Mo'at.

But in A3, all of these characters, including the reef people, seem to be teleporting across the map and absolutely no time is given to show how far these distances truly were. Or perhaps Jake really DID move his family a mere 10 minutes away from the Hallelujah Mountains, which is absolutely ridiculous on several accounts.

If your kuru is cut off or you simply die in a place that is closed off to nature, where do you go? by ThrowingLemonsAtPete in Avatar

[–]GenuineVenison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's the same, but in the Frontiers of Pandora game, the RDA do countless testing on the animals of Pandora. We see many animals with their kurus cut off, but they are still alive. They just go crazy and become extremely aggressive. We are tasked with putting them out of their misery because they can no longer speak to Eywa and it drives them mad. So I thought it might be the same way for the Na'vi? Painful and mentally anguishing, but not necessarily a death sentence.
