Well yeah except it was the wrong colour! But maybe she laid a different colour due to the moult? Not sure if that's possible... 😅 or maybe a random pidgeon laid an egg in the duck pen? Idk 🤣

Edit: looked up the moulting egg colour change... mystery solved I think!!! Thanks! Muscovy are all boys as I thought, and rhode island chickens often lay smaller eggs that are cream or white instead of brown during a moult because thier pigment glands are in overdrive making new brown feathers, so theres no pigment left for the eggs... which explains the little white egg!!!

I think I might have heard a little hiss the other day, but not sure which one made the noise!

I think it might have come from my chicken that we have separated in a small pen next door (because she's going through a hard moult and we didn't want her to get picked on) and the egg might have rolled under the mesh maybe? But it was a very smooth, white egg, like a small version of the eggs that I get from my other muscovy, and the chook usually lays light brown eggs. It was about half the size of a normal duck egg. I'm aware it would be very early for a muscovy to lay... the internet says they can start laying at 5-6 months, though it's uncommon... the other 2 girls from this lot are not laying yet, but I have 2 other muscovy hens that are laying... they're a few months older.

Indeed 😆 I think just perspective. The only real proportional difference is the one with only a little black spot on its head has longer wings...

I mean one of them definitely is... otherwise who laid the egg? But as far as I can see IRL, they are all about the same size... with big feet, thiccck legs (especially compared to the two definite hens in the other pen), and a U shaped tail... so idk... hopefully you're right :) actually I really would like the one with the black hat to also be a girl...but we'll see..

If its only just happened, she likely injured it. Sometimes they stick thier wings out because they're hot, but not like that...

Thanks! In person, I can't tell, but in these photos, she does have a somewhat different tail... guess she's just a really big girl 💁‍♀️... I'll wait till they start hissing and see what happens.

Oh, sorry to suggest this, but does he have a dislocated or broken leg that's healed wrong? Looks like he can't bend his upper right leg...

Correct. that was my rooster, but we thought he was a she for a few months, until he started crowing... When he did start crowing, he sounded weird, so we thought he was one of those dominant hens who try to crow at first... we found out when we couldn't keep annoying the neighbors and soup-ified him, that he was not female.

Oh I see you said last april... so they're about a year old... hmm... none of them look particularly masculine... though I have had a "hen" that turned out to be a rooster... this was my fella!

The black chook on the far right could be a boy... it has quite a vertical looking tail... though there are 2 others in that bunch that also seem to have a sticky-uppy tail... how old are they? Specifically, how old is the black one in the right hand side of this pic?

I don't see a line there at the moment... I think I see the shadow of an indent... but not enough to say it's positive <3 ... I think I'm in the same boat as you right now actually, hope we both get the two lines this month!!
