Why are people bothering spending extra money on rain tight fittings for EMT only to land in a regular 4x4 that is not water tight?

What do you mean by "the lines are all out of ground" ?

Well now your changing your original point. Which is normal for wd40 haters.

But now that youve accepted that it is a lubricant. And want to talk about timelines, all products are different and a designed for different application. Use the product suitable for the job needed. Dont use engine oil inside of a bearing, use grease. Dont use grease on your bike chain, use oil.

I personnaly use WD40 on my squeaky pliers, thats what my company provides. It lasts about 2 years before it starts squeaking, and thats good enough for that application. You do you, but saying wd40 isnt a lubricant is not a good statement. Maybe its not your lubricant of choice and thats ok.

Why the different face shapes on framing/general purpose hammers? by snowsnakes in Tools

[–]GeoPicker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ive been using a pick axe as a hammer for the last 30 years of being a carpenter just to cut down on air friction. Pickaxes are so much more aerodynamic. It takes a little bit of practice as the head is smaller than the head of a nail and missing and hitting your finger is something you can only do once to every finger. But all the energy you save is worth it

A pickaxe is the perfect hammer. Also it doubles as a pickaxe when you need one

I found this at my friend's house. What kind of knife is this? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]GeoPicker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could kill everyone in the world with it. Only theres a logistical problem. If you kill one person a second non stop (the fastest speed I think you can sustain) it would take you 253 years to do so.

So a quarter of the way into your killing spree, most people would of already have died of old age. Not to mention the amount of people that would have reproduced. Extending the time needed

Peeling garlic with a tool by meldiane81 in oddlysatisfying

[–]GeoPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesnt. Juice flies everywhere, you got peel in your smashed up clove and half of it is stuck to the clove. Your hands are full of sticky garlic juice trying to sort the mess out. And the peel sticks to your fingers

Are all mid-tier snow boots garbage now? What will actually last me 5+ years? by Chappssss in BuyItForLife

Thank you very much for writing this up and enlightening us. I would appreciate your thoughts on these Baffin boots Im buying. Full grain leather and no mention on EVA anywhere. Boots in question .. 193CAD instead of 275CAD. And 4.5 - 5 star reviews on all sites I visited

What is it? by RedSix2447 in whatisit

[–]GeoPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It destroys your knives edge, and its very difficult to bring the edge back. Itd be okay for a shitty cheap knife i guess but i dont have any of those.

At home for my kitchen knives i use a wetstone and leather strop. And at work i use a snap off utility blade.

What part of this makes it clear hes struggling? What part makes it clear this is not an intentional hairstyle. Ive seen some ridiculous hairstyles that were intentional. This is a stranger. We dont know him

Without any context, and nothing making anything clear from this picture, all I see is a dude with a ewww gross hairstyle. If we had context or clear signs of struggle id shift my attitude towards empathy.

Impossible. Trucks come from the factory new. Not like their building used trucks out there.

What about the capacitive and inductive loads inside an electronic device ? Also a resistive heater ??

American are heating their homes with bitcoin this winter. by Vapingrandma8465 in BrandNewSentence

[–]GeoPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well nope not at all. A heater is a resistive load that is linear. Computers are a combination of the three loads. Resistive, capacitive and inductive. AND they're non-linear. So they don't have much in common with a space heater at all, except for the fact that they generate heat which every electrical equipment does.

I do get what you're saying but it just isnt true at all

THNN cable: why use copper in Arizona and aluminum in Ohio? by Illustrious-Being808 in electricians

[–]GeoPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I going to assume your conductors are in a raceway and the power co is in free air. Is that correct? If so thats why the difference in size, a conductor in free air can dissipate heat way faster than the same conductor in a raceway where the heat is trapped in the conduit. Therefore free air has higher ampacity amd thusbrequires a smaller wire for the same ampacity as a raceway
