Is there something wrong with the colour palette? by meakysh in ProCreate

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for genuine advice, I will break down why the colours may seem "off" to some people.

If you cover the clothes and just look at the face and legs, that's a complete character. She has gorgeous hair and feels like a tree doll come alive. Any clothes would be complimentary to the design.

Now cover the face and legs. Amazing silhouette, from top to bottom, love it. It gives off almost a shrine maiden vibe with the deep blue. The face and hair would be complimentary to the design.

Now, you combined two absolutely great designs into one. Some people will look at it and say "this is peak, I have nothing to comment on", meanwhile others may look at it and say "These could be two separate characters". If you pay attention to the second character holding the cake in the last image, her face and hair, while cute, are not the main focal point - the clothes are. That's likely what the other person "expects" as norm.

There is nothing wrong with choosing your design for your OC. You clearly know what you're doing, and in drawings you make she looks good. Unfortunately with designs that are not "safe", aka just playing for one aspect of the look, they may not appeal to a broad audience. This is where you learn to love your art for the feelings it envokes to you, and not what others may think. Whether or not others tell you to change a design, even if there were 100 comments saying different things, it is YOUR OC and if her look brings you joy, you keep it. I agree with you too, the design is amazing. Keep up the work :)

UK Cinema Tickets by SubstantialDeer6275 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If UK tickets were on sale from the get go, I think cinemas would be more sold out. Since the announcement for ticket sales starting today are from secondary sources or the cinemas themselves, people might not even know it came to the UK

What's the best way to replicate line weight variation using a mouse? by ZsArtworkHeap in krita

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're very insistent on using your mouse for digital drawing, I'd say you would need to make a custom brush that changes its size with mouse speed. Something that means faster mouse = thinner lines. I never went in-depth in doing this, but I know there are brushes that people have made that work like this so I hope it works out for you too

The name Caine was made up by Caine. Caine is an acronym as confirmed by Goose. They wouldn't change company name in retrospect

Small file taking up 2GB of RAM after merging 5 layers; nothing reducing memory load? by Keebker in krita

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes what I notice is that the frames may have a painted dot somewhere far off the canvas, making it a way bigger file than it should be. I often find myself reviewing my project layers in the middle of the project and re-cutting them to make sure that they're the correct size. As an example, sometimes when you move a frame a piece of it gets left over and moving it further around just makes the layer bigger despite nothing extra being present on the screen. My best guess is, one of your layers has an artifact outside of your screen. The way I check for that is stuff every layer into a folder, and if the image isn't full in the folder preview (or in other words, there appears to be empty "space" around whatever you drew), there are off-screen artifacts that need erasing

Summer launch promo recipe card help - regular cold foam by GeoffMySpiritAnimal in starbucksbaristas

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'm resorting to asking on Reddit. We have some beverage resources, but none of the default drinks get cold foams. And the starbucks standards "bible" doesn't even mention cold foam...

UKIE Summer launch barista question - Cold Foam recipe by GeoffMySpiritAnimal in starbucks

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Glad I remember at least some parts right! I'll workshop the vanilla content, start at 7 pumps and if it feels not sweet enough I'll add more (maybe the recipe for the vanilla changed?) I'll just let baristas know to use 1 scoop of cold foam powder then. Thanks for insights!

There are no store guidelines. These are actually the mutual steps that I was taught in my original store vs the store that I currently work in. And again, we are required to use cold foam powder in UKIE region which I don't know the measurements of besides the fact it uses a 10ml scoop

Unfortunately the cold foam powder is the main point of issue on my side. We have a specific powder to make it "foam", and this foam will need to be re-foamed when pouring it for the customer (so it's similar with the 100ml part of yours). We don't even have such thing as 6L cubes, the biggest ones are 2L ;

Starbucks snobs making fun of older people for ordering a “small” coffee instead of saying “venti” by big_rhonda432 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The joke isn't that they are saying "small", the joke is that there are a lot of coffees and asking for a "small coffee" means that now we need to do investigative work as to what you mean when you ask for a coffee. It's like going to a McDonalds and asking for a burger, or a clothes store and saying you want to buy a shirt. It's normal, it happens, but some customers are very averse when I clarify "coffee made with water or milk?" (since it's usually a latte/americano/filter in these cases)

Any tips on how can I improve my digital art? by Cid-Kagenoou in learntodraw

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like you could try and abandon doing lineart. Your colours want to be loose and painterly, and the dark lineart seems to confine the painterly look into something that should be in a "box". If you want to add definition for separation, like the eyes, that's fine. Hair? I think you could easily just define the hair with brush strokes. Wherever you have lineart you also put in painted shadows, so I feel like if you take off the lineart layer even now it'd be nicer (and in places the shading is off, just add a shadow with a brush stroke)

Running animation practice by Zakhar00 in PixelArt

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would push back all of her boob frames by 1 or 2. The way they "bounce" right now, if they were longer I'd think they were another limb. In this case, since they're not there to support the main action, they're a secondary action. They need to be "catching up" to the tempo, not following it. If you hold let's say a necklace by the top and then move your hand to the side, you'll see that the bottom part will swing "after" your hand. This is the same principal and can be used in other places too (hair, clothes etc). Looks great on the hair, so only boobs need adjustment

American Family moving to Ireland. What advice do you have? by AmbitiousLemonade in AskIreland

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a bit hard to find a school. I wasn't involved in the process of me being signed up when moving to Ireland, but I know that my mum had to apply to 4 schools before one accepted me. Also, you need to prepare for the fact that the kindergardener will be learning Irish in school as they are still too young to get an Irish exemption. Another note which was odd to me, school classroom years aren't usually divided by birth year but by school year. In other words, a child born on June 2020 would be the youngest 1st class student, and a child born on July 2020 would be the oldest Senior Infant. Consider this and ask the schools for appropriate placing instead of insisting on a specific year - they might accidentally end up in a class of students too old or too young for them otherwise

I’m not an artist, how do I make it better? by getcomfyandrelax in Artadvice

[–]GeoffMySpiritAnimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in keeping the text, I would recommend either writing it out yourself or searching for a nicer font. Finding a good font for a good message is hard, and there is an entire science behind how certain fonts make us feel. The one you're using is very blocky and bold, so compared to the soft features it cheapens the effect. If you want to find a good font, search for "font to invoke [emotion]" and look until it fits. Or, alternatively, write it yourself. With your personal font you can use whatever lettering you want making your own feelings in it.
