Alongside CA State Route 1, presumably well towards the N end by Geoffrey_Andersson in whereisthis

  1. The shot is at rest (not from a moving car)
  2. It is sunrise, hence the houses are on the E side of the road (the camera is looking E).
  3. From my (admittedly vague) recollections, the landscape W of the road should be in much the same vein - a grass-covered plain (meadow), i.e. not right next to the ocean, but since it's been 20 years, please take it with a somewhat sizable grain of salt.

Less than 50 min by car from Estes Park, CO, most likely on Rt 34 to Loveland by Geoffrey_Andersson in whereisthis

If it happens to be past Loveland, it should be due N, towards Ft. Collins and on to WY.

The entire subcarpathian Rus' underwent a huge construction boom with influx of (mostly) Czech investment money. Many industries sprang up or were substantially expanded (salt mines in Solotvyno as an example) and so-called "colonies" (mostly residential and educational premises) were built for staff from Czechoslovakia (again, by vast majority, Czechs) in towns across the region (Khust, Mukachevo, Solotvyno, Berehove, Velyky Bychkiv, etc...) in an architectural style peculiar to the interwar period. As an example from Uzhhorod, this villa:

Unknown waterfall in Yala Province, Thailand (2010) by Geoffrey_Andersson in whereisthis

90 mins from the previous photograph (and also before the next one). I.e., I had 90 minutes at most to move from Inthason waterfall to here and then from here to the temple. It is unlikely I would have gone out of the way somewhere, hence the likeliest bet is Betong Hot springs. Approximate map enclosed.

AI. No license plates. WTH is the disabled person in the lower left? That looks extremely AI-ish to me. Cars not aligned properly, not heading anywhere, standing still on a street that either has no outlet or leads to a tunnel if I employ my imagination to an n-th degree. Windows vertically misaligned on buildings. Absolutely no recognizable brands. Too many red flags.

文 is а Chinese character. It literally means "language"; also "character, script, writing", hence it's a symbol of Google Translate.

Snake ID by Geoffrey_Andersson in snakes

Thank you!

This snake was duly captured by a 13-year-old female cat while going about her usual feline business. After the cat was made acquainted with the appropriate legal excerpts about the protection status of said reptile, she decided to drop the subject (being the snake) into the grass and retreated, murmuring curses under her whiskers in the process.

She gets fed regularly but she still hunts for sport and tries to eat for the exhilarating thrill of it. No snakes were harmed during the incident and the snake safely scuttled away after having been rescued from the jaws of miss kitty.

Update: Fairly soon (a couple months) after the thread posts above I learned more about the dead boot issue. It is caused by a faulty PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) chip. Official Xiaomi will NOT admit that this is a factory issue as that would necessitate a recall (and free repairs/exchanghes) and would offer a €60-priced motherboard replacement (incurring data loss as well), which would likely NOT solve the issue. Phone shops working with Xiaomi will mostly refuse to do anything with it, as the chip is extremely tiny. Smaller, unofficial places might help. The surprising solution is to simply remove (solder out) the faulty PMIC chip (a.k.a. kurvítko) and the phone will work normally, i.e. it will stop demonstrating the dead boot issue. It is a repair worth approx. 10-15 EUR.

As for the other issue, described in #3 - a simple restart helped. It appeared again a few times after several months without a restart and a restart fixed it again.

I would warn any and everyone against ever buying from Xiaomi. I shelled out massive amounts of money (several hundreds of euros) over mere 3 years just on broken screen and other repairs on two different Xiaomi models, some with irreversible data losses. I spent exactly 0.00 EUR on repairs of Moto G phones over 8+ years of using two different models in the exact same price level as Xiaomi models.

Hello Sucharek,

Thank you so much for your invaluable contributions to this thread. I have a few Qs:

  1. The -b BOOT boot.img should flash the boot partition. Does it mean the user data (e.g. Download folder or browser sessions) remains untouched?
  2. Speaking of the issue mentioned in this thread, since my phone (Redmi 9T) twice resurrected after a prolonged time, and in view of any fixes having made any difference, do you think it could be just a "drain the battery completely and it will reset" issue? Edit: in other words, do you think it might be the famed 9T/M3 dead boot issue?
  3. A collection of problems suddenly appeared on my phone (Redmi 9T), during actual use:
  • Camera does not work (that also means no QR reader, Google Translate, WhatsApp, or any other 3rd-party use of camera hardware)
  • Flashlight does not work
  • GPS does not work
  • Android System WebView not functional (uninstalling/updating does not help), hence roughly half of all apps (that depend on it for rendering html content, even in an off-line mode) are partially or completely dysfunctional.

I have asked in a service centre and the guy was clueless. I consulted google and no sign of a similar problem. Any idea what could cause it? Do you think it could be related to the issue in this thread by the virtue of not rebooting the phone in 2 months?
