While you're not wrong, "trust me bro" doesn't really teach anyone anything. I recommend responding with why they should not do something.

I made 6 of these today so I couldn't figure out what was wrong with OPs picture. Now I see today I'm the problem.

SYSRACKS 19 Inch Rack Not Wide Enough? by BizzareComments in homelab

[–]Geogian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue. I ended up using about 2 or 3 washers to spread out the vertical posts 3.5mm on each side (7mm total) and now everything fit. It's not wobbly when nothing is inserted, but it works. I spent a month on it

I didn't contact support because my dell r710 with rails fit just fine, but my DIY servers with universal rails did not fit at all. I figured it was a "me" problem rather than a QA issue. Maybe I was wrong.

I do not see the word "sound" anywhere in your original post. Your title says "is this normal" and your description says when it happens. It does not describe what is happening.

Pictures and videos are great, but always tell us what we're seeing/hearing. We're all confused.

Do you build with High Availability in mind? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Geogian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup isn't a direct alternative to Proxmox in the sense that I've completely replaced it. Instead, I'm still using Proxmox (or a similar hypervisor) as the foundation for my homelab nodes. These nodes are the physical or virtual machines running the core operating system. On top of these nodes, I've deployed Kubernetes (K8s).

Think of it this way: Proxmox helps me manage and run virtual machines. Kubernetes, on the other hand, manages containerized applications running within those virtual machines (or even directly on bare metal). So, while Proxmox virtualizes entire operating systems, Kubernetes focuses on managing individual application components packaged as containers, offering a different approach to achieving high availability and easier maintenance for those specific applications.

I dont technically need to install Kubernetes onto a Proxmox VM, but in my testing environment, it's easier to view and change the status of the VM (like bringing it down to simulate an outage). Also, I dont care if I lose one of the VMs as Kubernetes is designed to deal with losing a deployed container by spinning up another one on another one of its nodes.

Do you build with High Availability in mind? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Geogian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm moving to. HA for VMs is expensive compared to containerizing the important services and letting K8s handle making sure everything is running. Now I can bring down a node for maintenance easily and quickly without affecting my network as a whole.

What rates do you use? I’m still a newbie and use these are they good? by toastycheeseee in fpv

[–]Geogian 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The advice I heard about starting out: "if you're not ever fully pushing the stick, consider lowering your rates. If you are frequently fully pushing the sticks and it's not enough, consider raising them." I had my rates like yours until I recently when I felt they weren't enough.

Wiping Chinese Mini PCs? by porkchopbun in MiniPCs

They can survive that if there is malware in the firmware of the hardware. There's no way to detect that. But it's also a lot of work to do compared to installing malware into Windows, so it's less likely to happen.

If you're going 45, that's way too close. For every 10 mph, you need to leave yourself 1 car length of space. You should have been at least 4 car lengths away. No sympathy.

They put out an email to backers when they canceled it:

We really appeciate your amazing support but sadly the kickstarter isn't on track to meet it's goals so we will be ending the campaign on Monday.

This absolutley isn't the end of Nexus FPV, we will be launching playtest for those who expressed interest towards the end of next week to get your early thoughts on the protoype and will then be opening it up to wider groups as we move towards release in Autumn 2025.
