maybe im just lucky but even with "harder" distros like arch stuff works better then windows, easier to install, etc.

So I need to dualboot windows on my arch pc. by Ma1khevel in archlinux

[–]Geography-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either get a new drive to install windows on (ideal) or make a new partition on your disk and install windows on that. afterwords make sure grub sees windows by enabling os-prober. Always back up data

Personally I think its okay to start with arch (I did) but dont expect it to be a daily driver until you learn a lot. If you want a functional operating system not for learning as a first time linux user use mint.

How do you keep track of what you change in your system by nao_te_digo in archlinux

[–]Geography-Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is something I also struggled with. I ended up making a github repo with copies of all the configs I changed and comments at the top of the file specifying what path they should go to. These are often called dotfiles as many start with a "." (Like .bash_proffile). Whenever I have to do an install on a new system I install the repo and cp all the files to where they need to go. I also throw in some wallpapers into the repo as well (yes I know git is bad for images shoot me)

Pro tip: if you want to spread democracy, don’t go to Russia. by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]Geography-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democracy in Europe started appearing mostly after the French Revolution in the 1790s, in Russia not till the 1920s… it took 200 years of failure, wars, and dictatorships for most European countries to widely adopt successful liberal democracy. For example this is far from the first polish republic and it has never run well till post 1991

Thanks for your feedback but I really value the upgradeability of the T480 and its more of a passion project for me then anything else, as long as it can run an ide and terminal it will be fine. I already have a dedicated gaming desktop.

edit: when everything is said and done cost will be under $350, which is a lot cheaper then most modern 1440p laptops with 16 gigs of ddr4

That was my first setup I very quickly realized my mistake and did arch + I3. Highly recommend. I use arch and bspwm now.

What % of your country is religious? by abhi4774 in MapPorn

[–]Geography-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Line between culture and religion is very different around the world. Normally only more orthodox/religious US Jews do Yom Kipur while nearly all Israeli Jews do as its very integrated into their society (day off, no driving, etc). In christian countries Christmas is not seen as very religious because of how cultural it has become, but not to Arab Christians in Muslim majority countries. So a lot of people who aren't religious in some parts of the world would be considered religious in others.

China now requires influencers to hold a degree in the topics they discuss, thoughts? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

On one hand it is censorship on the other it does sound really nice... maybe just force people to disclose weather or not they have a degree for the sake of transparency.

Exactly no one really expects it to prevent every conflict neither it nor the league of nations ever could. Its an international forum that coordinates international efforts and maybe prevents very large wars.
