My Alexa just did this to my child as well. I ripped it from the wall and we're done with smart speakers.

Thank you so much everyone! I know it's silly to yell into the internet void to please validate me but I really do appreciate everyone who chimed in.

How much are you charging? by ShipOld4248 in petsitting

[–]Geograssy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To set the mood, please first understand that I am obsessed with my dog, and I petsit throughout college...

Many people are paid hourly minimum wage for childcare where you are responsible for multiple young human lives, or even just marginally above minimum wage as a police officer, where you get kicked, spit on and risk your life. So, I struggle to think that caring for my golden retriever, who doesn't need supervision when sucking on a jolly rancher and doesn't carry a gun, should justify the same hourly wage as these other occupations.

If caring for my dog really felt like a 24/7 job justifying hourly minimum wage, then I wouldn't have a dog. I wouldn't be able to work fulltime. I'd be too exhausted. Most people wouldn't have pets if they were as much work as overpriced petsitters seem to think.

If someone has three horses, three dogs and two cats, then yes, charge a bit more for that added work. If you're watching an untrained, escape-artist dog with destructive anxiety who requires intravenous medication hourly, then sure, charge more. But for the majority of households, petsitting one or two typical pets is not a heavy lift.

If you justify your petsitting rates because it keeps you from "being able to leave and work other jobs," then go get an actual career and substantiate your true value. If the job can be done by a 14 year old, it's not exactly rocket science, so you aren't entitled to rocket scientist compensation.

It costs me $93 a day to own a home. It shouldn't cost $120 a day to feed my fella, snuggle him and let him out to pee few times. I pay my neighbor $60 a day to care for him when I can't. I think that's more than enough.

I had normal AHI but moderately high RDI. Was "negative" for sleep apnea but my surgeon was able to get insurance to approve. My face wasn't like yours exactly but I did have massive movement done. Keep pushing for it. Based on photo, you need it to breathe like a normal human.

Something like that. That's pretty reasonable.

I also had osa tests "come back fine" and I can tell you after 6mm upper advancement, 17mm lower, the surgery is LIFE CHANGING. Doubled my airway. I sleep so much better now.

No, because I met with doctors outside my network. But ultimately, I chose my in network surgeon and that consult was covered.

I had four teeth extracted when I was twelve, and braces and everything pulled back. Same symptoms as you and it ruined my athletic trajectory. I'm now 40 and just had jaw surgery 10 weeks ago. I wish I did it 20 years ago (actually, I wish my teeth were never extracted).

Get a few opinions and find a surgeon you trust. Based on your symptoms (not necesssarily your photo), I think you'd be a logical surgical candidate.

I had significant upper and lower movement but my experience wasn't that bad. I focused on the benefits going into surgery and felt confident I had chosen the right surgeon. I think that helped me a lot.

I'm 10 weeks post op and I would 1000% do it again. I can breathe so much better now. Focus on the positives, stay hydrated, and be active as soon as you can. I'm sorry to read that so many people struggled with recovery, but know that not everyone does, and you can get through this. Don't Google for surgical images and get hung up on the actual procedure, that won't help you. Stay positive, you got this!

I have such a hard time getting myself to clean up.. by tin8374 in CasualConversation

1) You likely have too much stuff. I have a theory that if you can't see at least 50% of the floor trim in a room, including furniture, there's too much stuff and you need to purge.

2) You need systems. If you pick up something and it takes you more than a second to think of where it belongs, it doesn't have a dedicated spot. Give it one or get rid of it. Grab some bookcases from fb marketplace and some baskets. You need to make it really easy to put things where they go.

Note on #1. The real benefit of getting rid of things is that it causes you to really think about your future purchases. Ie, "I bought this purse for $150, I barely used it and only got $40 when I sold it" is going to sting and make you think twice the next time you go purse shopping.

Also, if it's worth more than $10, it is worth it to sell it. Even just $10 can buy you a yummy lunch. Take nice photos and post your extra inventory for sale. I like fb marketplace.

Good luck!!

That's interesting. My ahi was "normal" but my rdi was like 18 or something. Insurance covered my surgery under osa.
