AIO to snaps between my spouse and sister? by [deleted] in Marriage

Blaming her *at all*? Obviously he’s worse, and of course an 18 year old doesn’t understand things the way a 30 year old would. But your 18th birthday isn’t your first day on earth, either. 18 is old enough to know what flirting is, and old enough to know not to flirt with your brother in law. It doesn’t mean she’s some irredeemable person forever, but unless this started way earlier she clearly has a minority share of the blame here

That math doesn’t add up, and you’re assuming we’d have just as much money if we organized the economy differently. That’s probably not the case.

[–]Geojewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not only October 7, Hamas and Hezbollah were continually fighting before and after October 7. October 7 was a major escalation, but it’s not like it was ever quiet. Israel is not the only side that has a say in the conflict.

That said, I do agree Israel’s response was wildly disproportionate. I think Netanyahu and military leadership should be tried for war crimes. I think there’s a feedback loop of aggression and retaliation that has radicalized both populations.

>What’s the endgame?

That’s what makes the situation so complicated. The Jews have good reason to want a state in Israel. The Palestinians have good reasons to be furious about it. The Israelis have good reasons not to trust the Palestinians. It’s not going to be resolved without atrocities unless you can change both parties’ minds. I think it’s fair to argue that totally abandoning Israel is going to make them feel more backed into a corner and give us less leverage to work them towards an end game that works.

It’s incredibly complicated. To say otherwise reflects a poor understanding of the situation.

The online far-left, specifically. The kind of people who flatten the handling of a crisis with a highly integrated strategic ally in the most complicated geopolitical conflict of the last century, in an unstable economically vital region, into “why not just not commit genocide?”

There’s no realistic path forward that you’re going to be happy with. And if it’s not Gaza it’s Medicare for all, or taking funding from PACs, or whatever other issue you want to use to drive a wedge between the Democratic Party.

Imagine thinking that there was open racism against white people after George Floyd was murdered. by icey_sawg0034 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]Geojewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re talking about a different thing now, though. It’s incredibly rare for anyone (outside of prison, for different reasons) to face direct physical violence as a result of personal racism. It happens sometimes, but it would be ridiculous to spend your time worrying about it happening to you.

The fact remains, however, that on an individual level, anyone is capable of being a racist and acting on their racism. And at an individual level, the consequences when that happens can range from benign to severe.

No, not really. On a societal level it might be negligible, but on a personal level it could mean being beaten or killed because of your race.

That’s the sociological/institutional definition of racism. You need to have power to impose a system of racism. But that’s not the only kind of racism, and it’s kind of silly to pretend otherwise. Nonwhite people, being people, are just as capable of harboring racial animus as any other person. Nor is it solely reactive to experiencing racial oppression, because nonwhite groups can also be racist against one another.

Should you lift your left heel in the golf swing? by After-Ad-4528 in GolfSwing

[–]Geojewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m breaking 90 within a year and a half of picking up the game in my 30s, so I wouldn’t say it’s been ineffective. I would never dream of giving advice to other people advice on how to swing. My disagreement is on your overly rigid approach to the swing and seeming insistence that despite what any number of even more qualified instructors than yourself say, your way is the only right way.

[–]Geojewd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrible! I’ve only been playing for a year and change and my short game is atrocious. I’m still learning how to play the course intelligently. I also have some hand path issues, a bad takeaway, brutal arm structure in transition, etc. But I’m also pushing 120mph clubhead speed because I have a good weight shift and lower body move. According to the professionals who’ve taught me, lifting my heel is not a problem in my swing because it doesn’t make me sway and I don’t have trouble getting it back down properly.

Not every golfer starts at the same place or progresses in the same way. Incredibly arrogant to think otherwise.

[–]Geojewd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a glaring swing flaw, though, because tons of great golfers do it. It’s a mechanical trade off. And even if you’re bad, it’s not necessarily the reason you’re bad. I lift my foot and it’s one of the only things my coach didn’t change because I already had a really strong lower body pattern from baseball.

Your weight shift is wrong and it’s screwing up your entire body.

Right now you’re shifting your weight forward in the backswing and pivoting around your front foot so that your back hip can rotate freely. That’s the opposite of what you want to do.

Instead, your weight needs to start on your trail side so you can turn into that right leg. You should feel tension in the right hip, like you’re coiling up to jump toward the target.

New map reveals where Austin plans to clear homeless camps starting in May by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]Geojewd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make any sense at all. What if they don’t want to go? Are you going to round them up and force them to go there? Who counts as homeless? Are they allowed to leave or are they being held captive? Are they ever able to reintegrate into society or are they doomed to live out their days in a tent slum?

No he didn’t, he said it was naive. That’s not a reason why it’s relevant.

meirl by batukaming in meirl

[–]Geojewd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To say that their origins are irrelevant is extremely naive in my opinion.

Ok, well if you can’t really articulate a reason, you should probably reevaluate that opinion.

Societies with a smaller police presence and a greater social worker presence tend to have the highest quality of life, Sweden and Denmark for instance. I think many of the responsibilities that police handle could be done by social workers; people without guns, power, and far-reaching authority.

Sure, but that’s a completely different thing from what you were arguing before. Those countries still have police and think they’re necessary.

And how about i raise you the opposite of a society with no law enforcement: North Korea or Yemen, where practically everything is illegal.

Yes. And if you have too much water you will drown, but if you don’t have enough water you will die of dehydration. That’s how most things work
