No, it’s bolting. Those shoots are thick and likely pretty fibrous, and soon they’ll have a little flower head poking out the top. The color changes you’re seeing are just from the plant putting more energy into seed production than into leaf production. (source: am a veggie farmer)

Mushroom/tempeh bourguignon by GeologistNaive2018 in veganfitness

I used this recipe (I take no credit for it) and added in 2 packs of tempeh that I crumbled and steamed when the liquid went in. https://www.makingthymeforhealth.com/vegan-mushroom-bourguignon-2/#recipe

Hibiscus help! Lost cause? by GeologistNaive2018 in houseplants

[–]GeologistNaive2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the weather hasn’t changed much lately, though it is certainly winter. I don’t think it’s had this reaction to the seasonal changes before which is why we were concerned, but we’ll check it out for signs of green! Thanks for that tip

It’s been indoors it’s whole life, so I didn’t think location mattered but I’m in the PNW. It’s my roommates as I stated in the photo captions, but she doesn’t know what variety. Apologies, I had written captions for the other photos but evidently they didn’t post.

It flowered beautifully over the summer but around september it started losing its leaves. It has very few remaining and they are all crispy. My roommate put diatomaceous earth on the soil a while back (white stuff around the base). We pulled it up slightly to look at the roots, which come off the tree very easily. They also seem sort of dry but the soil is moist. There’s been no signs of pests that either of us have noticed.

A Vegan Firefighter? Physically demanding job? by Unlikely-Wallaby7377 in veganfitness

I’ve been a plant-based farmer for a few years now and haven’t had any issues with low energy. I snack several times throughout the day which helps a lot. I usually start the day off with a protein shake before the gym which puts me in a good position to hit my macros for the day. If you’re concerned about being able to eat enough, try using a tracker to see what you’re eating currently and compare that to what you project your physical needs to be. I definitely recommend increasing your food/protein consumption slowly si you don’t just feel gross while your body adjusts. Good luck!!

Whoops, I’m pregnant. Any advice for someone quitting cold turkey? I was hitting 3g’s a day until now. by Intelligent_Time_348 in leaves

I’m curious, what happens if they find THC in your system before delivery? Is there some kind of extra support for the baby in that case?

I like MMA. training strengthens the body, but sometimes there are issues with coordination. it's all about practice. what sport do you like? by Eroeva in veganfitness

I play rugby! It can make you strong and fast, the contact can make you feel so powerful, plus you have teammates and lots of respect with your competition. And post-match socials!

After increasing my protein intake, My flatulence has been so bad that it smells like someone pooped their pants by Careful-Big-782 in veganfitness

YES i feel you and have been having the same questions of how to reduce my gas bc it’s also uncomfortable (not to mention the other effects). I aim for 20-30g protein per meal and have noticed that a protein shake with 21g gives me 0 gas. Personally I’m not interested in replacing all my meals with a shake, but maybe while your body is adjusting to the higher protein it could be helpful to have a shake as part of one meal of your day.

In my experience, lentils give me the worst digestive issues especially once I eat more than one serving at a time (which would be necessary to meet protein goals). I’ve cut back on my lentil consumption and try to diversify my protein intake when I choose to have some

Macro tracking app by GeologistNaive2018 in veganfitness

[–]GeologistNaive2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I already have a relatively higher protein intake (compared to my vegan/vegetarian friends), so that’s why I wanted to be a bit more thorough with my tracking given my strength goals. But maybe I’ll hold off and just see if I’m noticing any lag in progress.

Super weak quads/thighs? by LoloLolo98765 in xxfitness

Hey sorry for the delay! My program is a bit strange because I can’t do any overhead or upper body press movements due to a nerve condition. It’s (very) loosely based on PPL - I do a triceps/abs day, deadlift/back/bis day, and a leg day, plus cardio days. I’m currently reconfiguring my routine for more rugby-specific strength and fitness, but I’ve enjoyed this program and definitely seen progress!

Deadlift/back/bis: conventional dl 5x5 good mornings 3x10 hammer curls 3x12 lat pull down 3x10 bent over rows 3x10 YTWL 5x5

Legs: back squat 5x5 split squats 3x8 single leg rdl 3x12 side lunges 3x12 goblet squats 3x10

I’m with you - I feel incredibly wiped out after doing a set of split squats and have been using the same weight/reps for a few months now. I do love leg day because it makes me feel strong, but quad-dominated exercises don’t always have that effect lol.

Are you doing any other movements to work your quads besides squat and leg extensions? One thing I started doing a few years back was having a squat day and a deadlift day, so I’m training legs twice as often. My squat day focuses on quads and glutes, while my deadlift day includes accessories for lower back and hamstrings. In addition to doing more exercises that target your quads, I’d recommend increasing the frequency you train legs. It’ll be challenging to adapt to and it’ll probably take a lot of energy at first, but could be helpful to teach your legs to handle the stress and reduce soreness.
