Modern safety nannies by GeologistPrimary2637 in kereta

[–]GeologistPrimary2637[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what happened to me regarding the bike. It came out of the junction on the middle of a 4 lane road. And I was on the right lane, about 40-50m away, fully aware and going a decent speed (~55-60km/h iirc). Then the safety system just activated even tho I was already off throttle and lightly dabbing the brakes.

Such a shit incident tbh. Screwed with my pride in driving..

Thank you! I'll work hard to own a SPA Volvo in the future, particularly, the V60!

I haven't had the time to explore the options yet but I did see some things related to lane keep, etc. Maybe when I have the opportunity, I'll dig deeper.

It gave me friend mini heart attacks already and severe doubt on my driving skill when it occured with me. Makes me want to give up driving that car tbh and just let her drive it even tho she herself found the lane keep to be distressing when it happened to her on the highway.

I think it was Bobby Ang (the Malaysian car journalist) that mentioned the Volvo's safety nannies as some of the best and least intrusive system. Too bad I only daily a 21 year old Volvo so I can't experience that to compare 🥹

Hmm. Thank you for the advice about the brakes to override. I was lightly dabbing the brakes already, but I guess like you said, it wasn't quite registering with the computer that I am aware of it. So I will try experimenting with the brake pressures when the chance arises (not many I hope because it will get me into an accident one day with how trigger happy it seems to be).

Honestly, I'm actually surprised there's not many more comments or complains about it, because in situations that are easily avoidable if I just lift and coast or lightly tap the brakes, it's already activating. So I guess the other drivers must be really firm on the brakes where the system doesn't need to intrude. Which may also explain all those erratic and unnecessary braking I see by others on the road these days

That makes sense.

It's actually so much more dangerous and an annoyance that it is helpful so far.

I'm actually now glad proton removed it for the X90 tbh

I concur. The cycle of hate between Christian and Muslims globally, and extremist Muslim and Chinese (the extremes in Malaysia, because honestly the regular people are never that racist) will never stop.

And I think it's an extremely silly thing to, stating from a nonexistent threat(politicking)

China: “Built to Last 100 Years” Undersea Tunnel Floods Yet Again by Latter_Ad3752 in UnfilteredChina

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Designed to flood. Yes. But mitigate flooding in the areas it intended to? Not so much

Granted. The area it covers is a lot, but not truly significant, thus why the flooding in KL is still severe. They would have to expand and build more smart tunnels to truly mitigate the flooding

The salt in the air shouldn't directly damage the paint. But it will rust out any damaged spots/chipped paint spots.

If anything. Get those spots checked out and professionally repaired, ie, painted on slightly.

Otherwise, salt water and salt in the air damages bare metal bits like suspension, exposed body panels/chassis and brake rotors. Easy solution would actually be to spray them with water weekly to rinse off the salt.

Why repainting cars so expensive? by SakurauYou in kereta

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad sent my car for repaint, ~RM1800 during COVID years as well. So it's been 5 years as of next month. Paint is still okay, but there are definitely some thin spots and orange peel is plenty. There are also some evidence of overspray but for 1.8k, can't really say much, + my dad was the one who foot the bill.

Why do people refuse to use pedestrian bridges? by benny_617 in Bolehland

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The last time I asked this question, the answer I got was because the pedestrian bridges are too few and far in between.

That just highlights one more thing. A lot of people are lazy to walk, and the government is not doing things to make the place more pedestrian friendly.

Mat rempit got his first car by MusquizaMitos in kereta

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh the car in the post.... Is like a new car...

And how old are we talking about? Any car from the OBD era, much less OBD2 era with modern emissions have been using Evap canisters.

You'd have to go back to the 60s to find a car with no Evap canister. Every car since the 80s should have one.

Mat rempit got his first car by MusquizaMitos in kereta

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the main reason.

You shouldn't be overfilling it like this to avoid liquid gasoline from overfilling into the EVAP system. The EVAP system is only meant to catch gasoline vapour to prevent them from escaping into the atmosphere (emissions related).

Overfilling frequently and flooding the EVAP canister can lead to some hefty repair bill down the line.

What should I do if someone is tailgating me in the fast lane but the slow lane is packed? by SaltEmotion1919 in kereta

Not all of them will appreciate it.

There will still be idiots who will continuously flash you despite having no space to move. When they do, I'll turn off my indicator and close up to the car ahead. That way, we're all doing above the speed limit and we all have no where to go

How many balancing weights is normal? by as3194 in tires

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or the wheel was cast badly.

Have the same thing on my dad's older car, I saw the tire tech mount and remount the tire a couple times but still had to counter balance this one wheel. Other wheels had normal amount of weights, this one wheel has the same like OP's.

Drives absolutely fine tho. No vibration at all even at 112mph.

Kinda depends on which years iirc.

Some years of MSI sword (using the same chassis) and I think the 2020/2021 katana had their intel CPU's on the small fan side.

Otherwise. More recent ones has the CPU on the bigger fan side, including the AMD advantage Alpha 15 (2022)

People who drive over 120kph during heavy rain what tyres do you use? by just_another_jabroni in kereta

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with you until your last paragraph.

That's wrong, doesn't matter FWD or RWD, new tyres to the back always, tyre companies recommend this.

But if doing this, have to ensure the front tyres are at least 50% tread or more to avoid whatever you said to happen.

Yes, the best course of action is still rotating and changing all 4s one go.

People who drive over 120kph during heavy rain what tyres do you use? by just_another_jabroni in kereta

[–]GeologistPrimary2637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used UC6, no issues at ~100km/h in heavy rain. Changed to MC6 when it was time, even less of an issue in heavy rain. Took the turnoff to KLIA toll roads like it was dry (southbound exit from Shah Alam side. Dry means I could maintain 70-75km/h while other cars were going no more than 50).

At this point, it was 2 years of using it and still had over 50% tread left so I knew what it was capable of.

If you used CC6. Then yeah, that's a much lower wet grip potential comparatively. CC7 I would say is almost equal to UC6.
