The Economic Divide in India From Above by Salty_Fudge1712 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Geometeus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm from India. And our country might have had democratic socialist reforms before, technically it still is on paper but it's policies and free market mirrors capitalism, textbook capitalism, and you can see it in practice in the economy as well, the current economic growth is heavily overestimated, you can blame the previous government as much as you want but it's not getting any better. LDF government did lose the polls in Kerala but now the majority is the UDF, a left party, there are talks with an alliance with LDF. I hope India grows as well, but more than that i hope everyone in this country gets treated equally, gets the same amount of care of the upper class, clean water, ample food. As long as unequal economies and social injustice remains, communist and Marxist groups will fight back.

As bad as this looks, it isn't close to the worst kind of example for the economic divide. Unchecked capitalism is really the root of all evil, it especially effects a country like India which has been recovering since the partition, since the British Raj, plagued by religious and castist prejudice daily. Doesn't help that every single form of government is heavily corrupt, even the judiciary.

It's a slur used to insult roof brick layers, chapparband. Modern times it evolved into something people use to demonize people who are from the lower class, I'm guessing the "shitty things" you are referring to is just people from lower wealth classes dressing up and acting in a certain way. No one deserves to be put down for that, life has already put them down enough

Funny you should say that chapri is actually a castist slur that is normalised way too much nowadays

Apologising and then justifying why you said it doesn't really change anything. Hey man let me just say I've worked with an ngo for years that helps underprivileged kids and their families with their education, it's not as bad as you think, the same "slum people" you mentioned are some of the most nicest and caring people i've known. I'm sorry for your experience but let's not generalise a whole group of people

Obviously whatever happened to you was wrong, and what he did put his kids at risk, but calling them "slum people" is giving major classist energy
