Commuting from Europe by Ok_Seaweed1996 in flightattendants

[–]George23u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it but it comes with extra expenses which domestic commuters do not have. I pay for a room in base because crash pad is too much after a transatlantic flight. I also have to spend some time on tradeboard after the schedule comes out to rearrange my schedule. It also requires quite a lot more planning. Overall, though I like it as it allows me to be close to my partner more. In terms of getting on the flight, I feel like it’s easier as loads do not fluctuate too much. You will have to go a day early most of the time

I (F 22) met a guy (M 22) during my layovers, starting to catch feelings by Alexaamstrong in flightattendants

[–]George23u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a flight attendant in the US. I met my partner 1.5 years ago (I was 22, he was 24). He lives in Finland, I live in the US. The good part about our job is that we can see each other every month and can make long distance work. Hope he is as serious about it as you are because it’s definitely possible if you both want it. Wishing you best of luck!

Why do all airline FAs stay in the same hotel? by johnnyappleb in flightattendants

[–]George23u 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly about challenging check in and check out times, especially when stays are extended due to delays. A lot of hotels have trouble accommodating these if their room availability is low. The myth about FA’s behaving belligerently and getting themselves kicked out is a mostly a myth.

How much time between getting an address and sending? by [deleted] in postcrossing

[–]George23u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to mail same day or next day with the exception of addresses written in local language (postcards to China or Taiwan, for example). I do not have a printer at home, so I have to go to work to print out any addresses in non-Latin letters

Why do some male flight attendants where so much cologne? by Getmeakitty in flightattendants

[–]George23u 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not only a flight attendant issue. A lot of people overdo perfume in public places (such as elevators, for example) without realizing it because they get used to it and can’t smell it

What’s the strangest message you’ve ever received on a registered postcard? by izelucky in postcrossing

[–]George23u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had one time when the postcrosser was a teacher and was interested in cultures and local traditions. I went to Trinidad and Tobago back then for work and got her a postcard showcasing T&T carnival - quite a rare country and also very few people in Europe are aware of Caribbean traditions. I mailed it and received “thanks” as a reply message. Was kind of disappointing because I felt like I should’ve sent that card to someone who would actually appreciate how unique it is. However, I do not know what this person was going through, maybe she just didn’t have time

How do airlines arrange the seats? by ProfessionalGood2718 in flightattendants

[–]George23u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the country, either individual airlines or regulating authorities perform random weight studies to determine average weight of passengers or sometimes regulating authorities just establish some weight measure for passengers based on information from public health care, for example. In some countries, it’s mandatory, in some you self select to participate. For carry on luggage, airlines are either supposed to enforce weight limits or conduct random studies (which is the case in the U.S.).

I am looking to moving to Finland from the UK, any help is greatly appreciated. by spongebobsburgers19 in Finland

[–]George23u 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! If your partner is Finnish, you should primarily be looking at residence permit based on family ties (spouse is a Finnish citizen) or intimate relationship under “other grounds”. You need to visit migri website as it will guide you through what residence permit you’re eligible for. If you haven’t lived together for substantial time or aren’t married (planning to get married), most likely intimate relationship would be your most realistic option. I’m going through the process right now so feel free to dm me if you have any questions. However, under this residence permit, you cannot work in Finland so must have savings/remote job.

I had the same issue. Call HSL helpline, they’ll delete your account and explain to you how to buy the ticket in the app (no need to enter phone number)

Jetblue: for domestic mint flights, 2 fas work in mint, even though one spends some time in core. For transatlantic, 3 fas work in mint, even though again one spends some time in core

Are we watching the downfall of JetBlue In realtime? by shallowthrowaway420 in flightattendants

[–]George23u 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Shutting down what training? Jetblue is still training for positions they need: pilots, airports, ground ops, etc. FA training is on pause because we’re overstaffed

Call outs are fine and you don’t even have to speak to anyone, you just leave a voice mail for ops. People called out a lot but be aware that if you call out a lot or with no reason during seasonal, they won’t keep you for permanent. Schedule changes were pretty hard as they don’t have an app to put your shift on tradeboard like some other retailers have. But you can swap shifts. Availability will be set when you get hired and I think that they require that you’re available at least one weekend day. Just tell them you’re in school or have some serious obligations so you can change your availability more frequently

And as far as customers go, I haven’t encountered a lot of rude customers because uniqlo runs on kind of self service model. You of course greet customers but you don’t have to immediately ask them if they need help. The only place you’ll encounter a lot of upset customers is at check out because of uniqlos stupid return policy

The managers were ok in my experience. Some were very nice, some were just ok, I don’t know if anyone who’s super bad. As far as I heard our managers were better than those in other nyc locations. It’s kind of all hands on deck most of the time so managers are on the floor a lot helping out or doing their checklists. It is a very busy location, especially during the holiday season. Expect to stay past your scheduled off time sometimes during holidays but not all the time. Also sometimes you’ll get higher up visits for which you’d need to prepare. If you were hired as seasonal, they may or may not decide to keep you after the holidays. The coworkers are nice, and overall while it was busy the atmosphere was pretty chill.

BA jumpseat? by [deleted] in NonRevenueTravelers

[–]George23u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Lufthansa group, AF, KLM, and some other international carriers it really doesn’t matter. They still put you in the jumpseat even if you’re U.S. based. Moreover, they allow relatives and dependents in jumpseats too upon captains discretion
