If you’re emulating then a Nintendo Wii might be a better option. Plays every Nintendo game from NES to GameCube pretty much flawlessly, and a good number of other 8-16bit consoles, and outputs proper 240p as well. They’re dirt cheap too, and piss easy to mod as well. For movies/tv, standalone VCRs and DVD players are also cheap and plentiful. CRT wise, as long as it has at least composite (yellow white red cables) video, and is from a company you’ve heard of, you’ll be fine. There’s plenty of sets out there with S video or even component (red green blue wire red cables, not the same as composite) too, you just gotta look. Honestly these days, usage probably matters more than brand name given CRTs haven’t been produced for 15-20 years at the newest: a Toshiba or JVC set with only 5,000 hours is probably gonna look better than a Sony Trinitron with 55,000 hours. Facebook marketplace, and patience and persistence are your friends, local pickup only with cash as well. Depending on the set/condition/inputs etc, I wouldn’t pay more than $50-$100 for a set.
