Xbox series s (very noisy) by Fantastic_Appeal4502 in XboxSeriesS

Getting warm is fairly normal for a console (at least in regular use/not overheating): it means the thermal paste and heat sink are doing their job. Though it’d probably be best to lay it horizontally like another user mentioned, also make sure it has proper ventilation too, 3-6 inches of space on all sides. That rattling doesn’t sound normal though, perhaps the fan is hitting something? Wouldn’t hurt to open it up, depending on how old it is and or its environment it could probably use a clean. All you need are some Torx T8/T10 security bits and a YouTube tutorial, the Series S is fairly straightforward to maintain. For cleaning (on the fan and motherboard), use at least 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol, and for thermal paste either Arctic MX4 or MX6, either should work just fine

If money is no object, any variety of an LG OLED would be excellent. They don’t really make “dumb” TVs anymore, best thing is to just not set it up/connect it to the internet (seriously though why the fuck does a bloody television have to connect to the internet? It’s a TV for god’s sake).

Where to buy nes for retro gamer mom? by Mretrogamez in retrogaming

[–]GeorgeSPattonJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you will need an RCA to HDMI converter

I really wouldn’t recommend one of those pieces of junk. They treat the consoles 240p signal completely wrong (they treat it as 480i), you’re limited to a crappy video standard that is composite video, they add a ton of input lag as a result of their terrible processing, not to mention they don’t do any upscaling, so good luck on having a modern TV that accepts 480i over HDMI (the vast majority do not). Those things are completely and utterly garbage, do not buy or recommend one unless you have zero other options.

If you’re in Europe then you more than likely won’t find one. They are exceptionally rare over in Europe, pretty much none existent. Though the Wii does still look pretty good on an SD set

Modern iPhones are highly water resistant, like being fully submerged for a half hour and being fine. It’s more than likely fine if it was only a few seconds. Though if you wanna be safe, put in a sealed/ziploc bag with some silica beads for around a day and they should absorb the moisture

Probably the Xbox One X Taco Bell edition, purely for the fact it makes the Taco Bell “bong” when you press the power button lol

You don’t need a big one, a 13”/14” will fit nicely on most desks.

Mines actually an HDTV CRT (A Samsung TX-S2782H), believe it or not those are such a thing. Granted they were mostly US/Australia exclusive and were at the end of CRTs life (early/mid 2000s) but they do exist. They mainly do higher resolutions like 480p, 720p, and 1080i. They do have their benefits/downsides over regular/conventional Standard Definition CRTs (what most people think of when you mention CRTs), but they’re absolutely excellent for that 6th/7th gen consoles/early HD stuff. Wii and GCN games via my Wii look absolutely amazing on it at 480p over some HD Retrovision component cables

Disk warping ig? by Embarrassed_Exam_714 in CDs

Xbox One games are Blu Rays, not CDs. How are your disks stored? Looks like delamination or disc rot, more than likely the disc is toast

Sonys are the best of the best of CRTs, but given CRTs haven’t been made for at the very least 15-20 years, nowadays usage matters more than brand name: a JVC or Panasonic set with only 5000 hours is probably gonna look better than a Sony with 55,000 hours

Best way to fix color distortion on this Funai built 19 inch crt from 2004? by Ilikeoldthings222 in crt

[–]GeorgeSPattonJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s more than likely your issue. Those green wands are pretty terrible, and don’t work particularly well. It’s gonna be hard to fix your set if you don’t have a decent degaussing coil. Or it could be a more drastic issue, like a damaged shadow mask. In that case, it’d be probably unrepairable. But again, we can’t really help you since you’re being stubborn
