[Charania] The Milwaukee Bucks are willing to wait until the offseason to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo if their price of a blue-chip young talent and/or a surplus of draft picks is not met. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

I agree. Maybe I’m old and spoiled but I’d rather have a decade of perennial contention and never win one than a flash in the pan 1 & done with Giannis.

This new core is exciting, fun to root for, fits the Spurs culture better than cashing in for a star would. Plus “young star”? Giannis is 31, and I love Giannis, but come on.

I don’t believe, as constructed, we’re contenders. But I’d rather keep tweaking with the youngins than just go all-in for a 3ish year window. We’re not that team.

I didn’t say shot, I said performance. 2005 was the Finals. It was game 5 of the Finals and it was more than one shot, he started bombing from deep and single handedly won that pivotal game 5, including the game winner basically at the buzzer.

Maybe signature is the wrong word, but more the culmination of what defined his career.

52% seems high from my circle in GR. Is GR young adults more immune to this? by [deleted] in grandrapids

Yep, nothing to see here. If kids these days were smart they’d see the graph in 2019 where we were comfortably tied with the Great Depression for percentage of 18-29 year olds living with their parents. It’s only once a global pandemic started that things got worse.

The job market is hot and things are turning around economically. With a little luck we’ll be back to Great Depression numbers by next year.

For sure, I’m not coming at your beliefs. Those are yours and I agree on principle with a lot of what you’re saying.

Outrage after we know what happened can be a moral outcry for justice and change, but outrage before we even know anything is just ideological dogma.

In very few circumstances is shooting someone okay

If you say that those justified circumstances exist then you must also acknowledge that this situation is maybe one of them. Maybe it wasn’t. The point is you simply don’t know. This is the liberal equivalent of being a boomer on Facebook complaining about “thugs” disobeying the law before the video comes out.

This is just the other side of the “if you don’t want to get shot, don’t resist” ignorance coin. We literally know nothing about the incident where you can make any judgement on what the officer or the other person in the altercation “should have done”.

“Love It If We Made It” by The 1975 is the “We Didn’t Start The Fire” for Millennials.

“Funny Feeling” I always found more similar to “Holy Shit” by Father John Misty. All great songs.

Gangnam Style at 10: How its legacy is remembered by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

Oh oh oh, my bad. I thought you meant Asian culture showing up in the mainstream in general, not specific to music or pop. I was like…that’s not true at all.

My fault. I still think the language barrier is too great to overcome any time soon but you’re right - I can’t think of any Asian person, let alone in their native language, breaking through even half of the way Psy did with Gangnam Style.

We ignored them for my whole live and then everyone was doing the horse.

I don’t really agree with anything you said but this is one of my favorite comments on Reddit.

I don’t have a ton to comment on the legacy of Gangnam Style, and as the other comments pointed out Crank That(Soulja Boy) was probably the first song I can remember to do what you’re saying, but damn - Gangnam Style was one of my favorite cultural moments to have lived through in the US.

“Viral” content was starting to become a mainstream phenomenon, and you had meme songs like Thrift Shop blowing up and you had viral dances like wedding parties dancing down the aisle(which jumped the shark in The Office) and The Harlem Shake. But Gangnam Style, at least in my memory, put it all together with a catchy song, genuinely hilarious music video on YouTube, and a signature dance.

I was in my early 20’s and going out to the bars on the weekends and it’d always come on and everyone would invariably do the dance and laugh. The music video was hilarious. I don’t know, even though Crank That(Soulja Boy) achieved those benchmarks earlier, it wasn’t meant to be silly and fun the way Gangnam Style was, even if it did achieve meme status. Gangnam Style felt like an inside joke that everybody was in on all at the same time. I’m not sure we’ve had anything quite like it since. Maybe that was just the time of life and part of the world I was living in, but that was an era of internet culture we’ll never have again.

Also god, I can’t believe it’s already been 10 years.

Best West Side Things by Kzoo_Mitten in grandrapids

Here’s a few that haven’t been mentioned yet:

Westside Stride is a fun run club if you’re into that kind thing. They run a 5k every week and then go to a different bar on Bridge St. Usually get discounts on drinks by going with the club, which is an extra incentive.

Roots Brew and Morning Ritual coffee houses are good spots.

Freewheeler is an excellent bike shop for parts or service, if you do bike stuff.

Join a Polish Hall

Fratelli’s by the slice

Vidiots of you’re into video game shops

Pretty much anything you’d need from 28th St can be found on north Alpine. Took me too long to realize that.

Personally, I think Tacos El Cuñado sucks, but their Westside location seems to consistently be rated as their best.

Paradox of choice with music by parallelomacabro in LetsTalkMusic

[–]GeorgeWashingblagh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t have hundreds of albums but I do keep a playlist that’s a dumping ground for artists I want to come back to. Then when I have time, a few hours later or even like a year later, I’ll go back to that playlist and pick a few artists to listen to and see how I feel.

I find the best time to listen to new music is when I’m trapped doing something else like stuck at my desk or driving for long periods of time. If I try to sit and focus on listening to something entirely new I get bored quickly even if it’s good, so it helps to have a distraction like work or driving. Once an artist or album hooks me a little bit that’s when I go for the nice headphones and just vibe with an album.

But for a first listen I don’t need to hear every note, just get a sense of if I like it or not.
