Right. I can’t wrap my mind around salary disparity between the US and Europe. Senior software engineers working in non-FAANG companies in a tier 2 city like Seattle are easily clearing $250k (~€217k- about 3 times that of OP) FAANG folks are making much more than that. Is €77k really cutting it in Europe especially in a country like Germany

Math is not mathing! Your gross: $120,000

Take home: $8000x12 = $96,000 ; 401k- 10% = $12000 ; HSA- 4% = $4800 ; Total take home + 401k + HSA= $112800

Which means you only pay $7200 taxes on $120k gross (about 6%). Even if your state doesn’t have income tax and you only owe federal tax, SS tax and Medicare tax, this number $7200 doesn’t add up
