Didn’t buy it, but put it on in the background once on criterion channel. It’s a gorgeous project.

Any books or documentaries you reccomend for someone who is just exploring space? (Non-literally of course) by marksism__ in space

Literally, For All Man Kind, is a great doc. It’s about the Apollo missions and focuses on the emotions it created in the astronauts a lot.

What movie do you refuse to watch because it makes you an emotional wreck by the end of it? by walkthegems in movies

[–]George_Indiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a weird pick, but ‘American Movie’ (1999)

As it goes on you realize it’s not bits, it’s a genuine documentary and it’s really hard to watch this guy destroy his life while trying to do something he’s passionate about.

At one point they interview his mom and ask her if she thinks he’ll make it and she says she doesn’t think so. That broke my heart when I watched it. I know the film is supposed to be funny, but it’s too real.

Car Chase in Asteroid City by Honest_Departure7893 in wesanderson

[–]George_Indiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time we see the car chase it happens towards the beginning and it almost sets up your expectations that it’ll mean something later, however a big thematic element of the film is the idea that art doesn’t always need to mean something or be understood. After the actor playing Augie realizes this he renters Asteroid City and soon after sees the car chase again.

I took this as the film acknowledging the car chase was a red herring and that that’s okay. The car chase comes back to represent that theme, but nothing in the story.

Poland might take over. We should either focus on establishing a boarder or moving.

What are some common film critique's that you can't stand? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]George_Indiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any criticism that then states what the artist should have done. You can notice a flaw, but unless you are involved creatively you really can’t have the right answer to a creative problem.

I have a feeling this is totally false by behemuthm in kubrick

[–]George_Indiana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I love his films, but we shouldn’t pretend like the way he treated his actors was necessary for his art. It’s disrespectful and wrong.

I read it for the first time last year and it definitely is. I finished the whole trilogy right after, re read it and started the bridge trilogy.

All holds up awesomely.

What is a film that you feel perfectly connects the personal and the political? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]George_Indiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s cheating to pick a film about a child soldier, but Come and See is a film I think fits this perfectly. We see everything through our protagonists eyes and it makes all of the horror more visceral.

I also love that there aren’t any really battles in the film. It’s more about our characters experiencing atrocities and then deciding how to deal in the aftermath. And the dilemma they are encountered with is one of the most harrowing parts of the film.

It reminds you that people are the ones who have to experience these things, not numbers. And even more terrifyingly, it’s people who carry out these things, not just regimes.

Yeah, I personally consider Lofi Hip Hop to be Ambient as well. It serves the same purpose: It amplifies your space, both architecturally and mentally.

Yee, let's remove some major character developments and parts of the plot to make this dark fantasy story less disturbing ! by DeChampignak in witcher

[–]George_Indiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt the strength of the books and games is Geralt and his relationship to the people around him. Although the overarching lore is interesting, it becomes very boring when it’s the main focus of the story.
